I often get asked for ideas for short(er) trips - especially with teens. The "Golden Isles" area off the southeastern coast of Georgia is one of our faves. It's made up of four barrier islands (including St Simons and Jekyll Island) and Brunswick on the mainland. Only a little over five hours from Charlotte NC, the Golden Isles area is perfect for some long weekend (or longer!) exploring. We loved visiting the World War II Museum, and while it has things to keep little ones engaged, it's still great for history-loving teens. And Driftwood Beach on Jekyll Island is not to be missed! We went for sunset - the sky was painted with colors and the whole place became hauntingly beautiful.
