Many of you may be hearing this for the first time so please bear with me 😭 This photo was taken in the fall of 2023, two weeks after Beanie was viciously attacked by a new neighbour’s Doodle. Luckily during the attack Beanie was wearing a raincoat otherwise the attack would very likely have been fatal. 😥 At first I was able to keep Beanie behind me during the attack and block the dangerous dog - but it was relentless. And it just kept coming. I’ll never forget its eyes were red. 👹 After I was finally able to send the Doodle home where its foolish owner had been standing in the doorway doing nothing - I picked up a soaking wet and bloody 30kg Beanie and ran all the way home with her in my arms. And yes I was screaming and I can still remember her screams 😱 Once home I called my husband and raced Beanie off to the vet. The vet said she was so lucky to be alive. Unfortunately the rain coat did not survive. Because the attack spiked my anxiety- for six months I put Beanie in my SUV and drove to a safe place to go for a run or a walk just to avoid that dog. After that I never felt safe on my walk or run with Beanie and to this day whenever I see an off-leash dog I don’t know I immediately make a plan to ensure Beanie’s safety. Most of the time I can control the off-leash dog with a ‘sit’ or ‘down’ command but I have also used coyote repellent on dogs that charge at us. And very large sticks and sometimes my feet. Always have a plan to deal with an off-leash dog and never rely on the handler of that dog for anything. Image Description. We have officially moved into our new home 🏡 🙌 The girls are loving the new house. We lived in a small 2 bedroom apartment, and now have officially moved into a 5 bedroom home. The girls are just loving all the space. Their personalities have definitely flourished here, and I've noticed they've been playing with each other a lot more 😍🥺 We are installing a gate soon around the property and working on the landscaping, so we should have a huge open yard in the next month or so. Hi everyone. London recap and update. London was diagnosed with Lymphangiectasia type PLE in March. We haven’t really been able to get a handle on it because we had a double whammy and at the same time we also discovered when her labs were run that she had suspected Babesia (even though I keep her on year-round preventatives ☹️). IM consulted with ID because the treatment for the Babesia is horrible on the gut without the PLE issues, never mind with them (strong antibiotic and antiprotozoal). It was determined that the benefits of treatment outweighed the risks and so we decided to treat for Babesia. The other factor in the decision was that based on her labs, the next suspected diagnosis on the differential was bone marrow cancer and and a bone marrow biopsy would be needed so there were no good options. 😩 So we did the 10 days treatment course and she handled that well. We repeated her labs and everything came back really good. Her WBC doubled back to normal range so IM believes Babesia was, in fact, the cause of very low WBC. Her labs associated with her PLE look better as well, albumin is up to 3 (it was 1.9) and calcium and vitamin D have also increased. 👏 But the treatment had a delayed response and the adverse effects came after the treatment ended, which we knew could happen. It did a number on her gut and she’s having GI issues, essentially a PLE flare, from the Babesia treatment. Her poop is formed but gellatounous and mucousy. She also had new-onset PICA as one the first symptoms back in March that clued me in that something was wrong. That went away once we got her on the hydrolyzed food and first round of probiotics. Since the Babesia treatment ended, the PICA is now back. IM is thinking that if we can’t get her gut back to normal with the probiotics and diet, we might have to do a fecal transplant 💩😱 So, that’s where we are right now. We are grateful that the WBC issue was associated with something treatable and that her labs associated with the PLE have increased. I just don’t want the treatment to set us too far back after all this progress. Oh, but don’t worry, she’s still her spunky, trouble-making little self! ❤️
