Displaced Sports II: Basketball 🏀🌲 Inspired by @romainmaya ‘s ongoing series of Unconventional Athlete photography, I decided to photograph my interpretations of the prompt. We followed this lion for about 30min while he was walking around occasionally roaring, when he eventually stopped at a warthog burrow. We watched him sniff the burrow and started digging. From Up There✨☁️ . One of the biggest things I am coming to learn about life is how to navigate through its eventual chaos. If life was always supposed to be easy and orderly it would become boring very quickly and in that there would be no reason to grow, no reason to learn and no reason to understand. It is in fact that in these moments of perceived chaos that we begin to learn, that we can understand and then that we can grow🍀 I am far from perfect, I have begun to learn that more and more recently and even though I may feel as though I am doing things right, I am merely doing the best that I can with the knowledge and experience that I have. In that though, I need to learn to be humble, to understand where I can do better, where I can learn and what aspects of my life I can focus on so that I may grow to be the best version of myself🌸 And this process I guess begins by listening and listening deeply, to myself and to others, especially those that I hold closely to me. Because ultimately they know me best and only want the best for me and my relationship with them. Then this is followed by clear and honest communication, from myself to others and from myself to myself. Spotting eagles in Mongolia was quite strange for me because they mostly perch or should I say sit on the ground. Most of the Steppe I covered was relatively flat and there weren’t many trees so their only option is to be on the ground or on electrical wires. The first year I went to Mongolia I would try to capture the eagles while just sitting on the ground and as they took flight. I got one or two great ones but they were too far away and not very sharp if I cropped in. This past trip I decided to make it my mission to get a sharp one! I remember arriving at a horse station and seeing this one eagle sitting in the ground close by. I slowly stalked forward towards it. Now you can imagine how awkward this may look because it’s not just stalking to get close, it’s to get close but at the same time, make sure I get the shot. Camera up, hand on the trigger, ready for any movement. You have to try not to stumble while making your way forward and also look through the view finder to get the shot. I hope it didn’t look as awkward as I felt 😊 You know when they see you and start shifting that they can fly any moment. I finally got it and I am super happy with how sharp this shot is. I’d love to focus on getting more shots the next time I visit Mongolia and keep developing my eagle shots. The Mongolian children and our interactions are ones I hold close to my heart. They start off being very shy, then once they have warmed up to me they display their playfulness and are very present. I love the mostly screen free lives they live and notice a huge difference in happiness, being content in themselves and how in awe of their surroundings and new things. Spending time photographing them remain some of my highlights from my trips to Mongolia. This little boy was full of laughs, he found out where the treat bag was and went looking for it in our van. He was fascinated by the work Don was helping with and he was such a treat to be around. What fascinates me even more so is when ever a child misbehaves I thought they will probably get a smack for something they’ve just done. Their parents just put a hand on their shoulder or they reinsured them and defused the situation instantly.
