At Roundway Centre, we work in a multidisciplinary way that follows NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidelines covering recognising and diagnosing autism spectrum disorder in children and young people from birth up to 19 years. Our multidisciplinary team includes speech and language therapists, SEN psychology and education consultants, and an educational psychologist. In addition, our team regularly accesses and liaises with other external professionals who provide advice and consultation when required. These include a paediatrician, a child and adolescent psychiatrist, an occupational therapist, and school SENCOs. The team attend regular meetings to review assessment videos and jointly code diagnostic assessments to maintain reliability, collaborate on diagnostic processes and thresholds and discuss individual management plans. A joint planning meeting with parents, schools, and professionals is offered to discuss and set goals for implementing individual adjustment and support. Individual intervention sessions and parental support is also available. Our diagnostic report complies with NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) guidance and can be used externally by schools and exam boards to support reasonable adjustment, SEN applications, EHCPs, DLA applications, Access Arrangements, and access to local services. Team collaboration is such an essential part of eating disorder treatment. Whilst having a multidisciplinary team (medical, mental health, dietetic) has become the norm thanks to the work done in Australia establishing both clinical guidelines for the treatment of eating disorders (@anzaed1 ) and the introduction of eating disorder management plans, this doesn’t necessarily mean that a high level of interprofessional collaboration always occurs. To encourage and facilitate more treatment team collaboration, new case conferencing items were introduced to Medicare in late 2023 which were a welcome addition (most private practitioners do all of their case conferencing and collaboration with other providers unpaid). Here are just a few of the benefits I have seen working within collaborative treatment teams: - Helps to minimise mixed messaging. - Helps manage the cross over in scopes of practice so you can receive input on the same issues from two different angles (eg nutritional perspective and psychological perspective). - Helps to have everyone “speak the same language” (different treatment models have different perspectives and processes so if your providers are using completely opposing approaches this can be confusing). - Helps to strengthen safety planning measures. - Helps to manage the “pacing” of treatment so one provider isn’t supporting you with a behaviour change task that is misaligned with where you’re at mentally. - Helps increase knowledge and skills across the team as health professionals learn from each other. It’s not easy but it’s also not enough, considering the huge number of endometriosis patients all over the world. We’ve never sacrificed quality over quantity because that would defeat the purpose. Patients need skilled surgeons, and skills can only be acquired through hard work and total dedication to medicine. Our team is all about giving their best, after witnessing the horrific effects of the disease and the struggle women face for a basic fundamental right to medical care and a good quality of life. ✨We get our energy from all of you who came to us with your lives completely devastated and returned home to a brand new life. MSc Podiatry Students Volunteer at TCS London Marathon 2024 🏃🦶🏃♀️🦵 Each year, some 60 Podiatrists, both qualified and pre-registration students from all over the UK, descend on the capital to volunteer for the TCS @londonmarathon. This year, our first cohort of @aeccuniversitycollege MSc Podiatry (pre-registration) students, along with Course Leader, Simon Otter, joined peers. The co-location developed a true multidisciplinary ethos and close working relationships with physiotherapists, nurses, paramedics, physicians, and the voluntary sector as part of the wider finish-line medical team. Our students gained valuable experience by providing care for a different client group in a highly unfamiliar “medical setting”. Our students reported how much they enjoyed the event and how exciting it was to be a part of it. They could utilise both their clinical and interpersonal skills learned from the course. The opportunity to work with other professionals and see a multidisciplinary team in action backed up the value of delivering healthcare with a person-centred approach at its core.
