On this Day in Videogame History 16/05/11 "Terraria is a 2011 action-adventure sandbox game developed by Re-Logic. The game was first released for Windows and has since been ported to other PC and console platforms. The game features exploration, crafting, building, painting, and combat with a variety of creatures in a procedurally generated 2D world. Terraria received generally positive reviews and by 2022 had sold 44 million copies, making it one of the best-selling video games." (Wikipedia) "Terraria is a two dimensional platform game of exploration and crafting. Players can use mines and picks to collect various items from the environment including wood, ore and even spider webs. Resources acquired from the environment can be placed or crafted into all manner of items. The simple crafting system automatically lists any item that you have the materials to craft. First priority is to set up a base before night fall hits in order to protect yourself from roving zombies and eyeball monsters. You can craft many items for your home, including doors, walls, tables, chairs and beds. During the daytime slimes roam the land and must be avoided or dispatched with a weapon such as a sword or axe. As you gather materials you will be able to construct more powerful weapons from different ores as well as armor to protect yourself. 30 monsters are present in the game including slimes, floating eyeballs, giant earth worms and zombies. Building a nice home will attract NPC (non-player characters) to your house to set up residence. These can include a merchant to trade with and nurses who can heal your wounds. Terraria supports single player, multi-player servers and player vs player combat." On this Day in Videogame History 15/05/01 🇺🇲 "Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX is a 2001 BMX video game developed by Shaba Games and the first game to be published by Activision under the Activision O2 label. It is similar to the Tony Hawk's series and competed directly with Acclaim Entertainment's Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX. Despite a planned release in fall of 2000, the game was released in 2001 for the PlayStation and Game Boy Color, followed by Dreamcast, Microsoft Windows and Game Boy Advance. The PlayStation and Dreamcast versions received "favorable" reviews, while the PC and Game Boy Advance versions received "average" reviews. A sequel, Mat Hoffman's Pro BMX 2, was released in 2002." On this Day in Videogame History 13/05/16 "Doom is a 2016 first-person shooter video game developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. The game is the first major installment in the Doom series since 2004's Doom 3 and was a reboot of the franchise. It was released for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One in May 2016. A port for Nintendo Switch was co-developed with Panic Button and released in November 2017, and a version for Google Stadia was released in August 2020. Players take the role of an unnamed space marine, known as the "Doom Slayer", as he battles demonic forces within an energy-mining facility on Mars and in Hell. Doom was announced as Doom 4 in 2008, and that version underwent an extensive development cycle with different builds and designs before the game was restarted in 2011 and revealed as simply Doom in 2014. It was tested by customers who pre-ordered the 2014 MachineGames game Wolfenstein: The New Order and the general public. Mick Gordon composed the music, with contributions by Richard Devine. The game also has an online multiplayer component and a level editor known as "SnapMap", co-developed with Certain Affinity and Escalation Studios respectively. Doom was well received by critics and players. The single-player campaign, graphics, soundtrack, and gameplay received considerable praise, whereas the multiplayer mode drew significant criticism. Cuando muestro mi CV puedes sacar tres conclusiones prejuiciosas: o soy conflictivo, o soy mediocre o soy indetenible. Algunos "afirmarán" que la primera, y con el tiempo te darás cuenta que soy el 3ero, pero lo cierto es que no coloco todo en mi CV, y esta foto es prueba de ello. En una época oscura para Venezuela (que parece que a muchos se les olvidó), cualquier oportunidad donde te pagaran por algo era una bendición para mi familia y para mi. Las oportunidades laborales eran escasas, el hambre era una constante y sacarle provecho a tus habilidades era una pequeña oportunidad para mantenerte a flote, y para este momento de la foto, había tocado varias veces en varios restaurantes entre San Antonio, Los Teques y Distrito Capital porque fuimos buenos, restaurantes que hoy están cerrados por la misma razón. Lo único que me mantenía de pie era esta idea de que estas experiencias las aprovechaba al máximo enfocado en que, lo que sea que venía, me haría más fuerte. Hay muchas frases que guardo con cariño, pero esta frase encabeza la lista: "El hierro se forja a martillazos". Te sugiero que no confundas amabilidad/educación con debilidad, porque personas como yo te lo harán saber, a veces de la peor manera posible. Como intuiste, soy músico, y académico, y solo está por encima del Jazz Luis Miguel y su orquesta (L.M., hiciste muy bien en no dirigir ni una sola palabra en tu reciente concierto aquí. Ahora tienes mi respeto como profesional). Aún toco la guitarra repasando a veces partitura, tablatura, cifrado algebráico y algo de técnica jazzística y flamenca. No soy tan bueno como antes, pero me aclara la ideas cuando diseño o programo. On this Day in Videogame History 01/05/02 🇺🇲 "The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind is a 2002 action role-playing game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the third installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following 1996's The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, and was released for Microsoft Windows and Xbox. The main story takes place on Vvardenfell, an island in the Dunmer (Dark Elf) province of Morrowind, part of the continent of Tamriel. The central quests concern the demigod Dagoth Ur, housed within the volcanic Red Mountain, who seeks to gain power and break Morrowind free from Imperial reign. Though primarily a fantasy game, with many gameplay elements and Western medieval and fantasy fiction tropes inspired by Dungeons & Dragons and previous role-playing games, Morrowind also features some steampunk elements, and drew much inspiration from Middle Eastern and East Asian cultures. Morrowind was designed with an open-ended, freeform style of gameplay in mind, with less of an emphasis on the main plot than its predecessors. This choice received mixed reactions, though such feelings were tempered by reviewers' appreciation of Morrowind's expansive, detailed game world.
