Love how male and female Basculegion have completely different colorings and different stats. It makes them almost like two different Pokémon with the male excelling in attack and the female in special attack. I did a double take when reviewing Basculegion's stats online after discovering adaptability as one of its abilities. I think it'll depend on what kind of physical ghost type attacks Basculegion ends up getting once introduced to competitive multiplayer, but it undeniably has some potential. My first shiny Basculin was female. Upon finding another outbreak eventually and hunting another shiny Basculin, it was also female. I reset without saving and called it phase 1. The next time the outbreak produced a shiny, it was also a female. As was the next. Pokémon harming humans, or in Zoroark's case going so far as to bitterly hate them too, is a theme that the Pokémon Company generally strays away from in its endlessly pursuit of an 11 year old demographic. That is actually such an understated victory of Legends Arceus. The more mature nature of the narrative and setting give me hope that the developers haven't completely forgotten about the adults who still have a very real sense of reverence for a franchise that seemed to have discarded them altogether. Apparently we know already H Zoroark is going to be keeping the illusion ability. Given its unique ghost/normal typing, that's actually quite saucy. Zoroark mind games may very well become a common and threatening part of the meta. The low-hanging fruit for me is simply including another normal type on your team that demands fighting type attacks to take them out. Just by merit of doing that you're creating a 50/50 split decision when your opponent is targeting one of those mon. If they are attacking your Zoroark disguised as say, Blissey, with a fighting move it'll whiff completely. And if they want to attack your actual Blissey with a fighting move, they'll be paranoid it's potentially Zoroark. That's where the 50/50 mind games come in. Everyone who has spent enough time battling know that missing one of those guesses can be devastating. Even though Scyther proved to be a stubborn mass outbreak to hunt thanks to its species' aggression and alertness, it was an absolute must for me. Its shiny change is so good I'd go so far as to call it an improvement on the original color scheme. Seldom is a Pokémon's design enough to make me want to use it on a run through a brand new game, let alone shiny hunt it. Kleavor, however, had me from the very moment I saw it revealed in an early promotional video. While Scyther always struck childhood me as one of the coolest gen 1 Pokémon, something about its evolution always rubbed me the wrong way when the second generation finally came and revealed it. I know this has gotta be an unpopular opinion, but Scizor (while OBVIOUSLY being a cool and strong Pokémon in its own right) always seemed like a jarring evolution to Scyther. I mean, why would scythes "evolve" into metal, claw-like pincers? What about either of those could be considered an upgrade to the other? It's apples to oranges. Giving Scyther a split evolution lost to time that still requires a semi-rare object makes sense. The scythes and its body are augmented by either the the metal or stone that come from the metal coat or black augurite respectively. One representing the bygone stone age, and one the steel age we find exclusively in the modern age. Or maybe I'm going way too Poké-theorist with it. It is worth noting that Kleavor has the ability sheer force on top of a high base attack and a decent speed and typing; virtually guaranteeing it some competitive viability when introduced to multiplayer. The first shiny hunt I attempted in Pokémon Legends Arceus was an Eevee via the mass outbreak chaining method. After much deliberation I chose Umbreon as its final form. Eevee seemed like a good jumping-off point given it could evolve into so many different Pokémon that could easily slot into a playthrough team. Upon learning that Umbreon favors special dark type moves in this game I decided to take advantage of my Eevee's bold nature by evolving it that way. Little did I know Umbreon is an absolute beast in this game. I cannot recommend this build highly enough. Agile-style calm mind into snarl is insanely broken. It hits harder than you'd ever expect a special Umbreon to hit and will tank almost anything. Not much that this game throws at you will pose it a true threat which is saying something considering you will sometimes be in 4v1 situations with high level foes that can each potentially hit you multiple times per turn for damage that seems unnaturally high this generation. That extra damage output from random Pokémon led me to build a team that emphasizes bulkiness, immunities, and resistances.
