Why should voters trust republicans on rooting out corruption, when federal evidence tells us they allowed it the last time they were in charge? • By Troy Torres Two weeks ago the Republican Party of Guam released its Contract with Guam. The contract list promises reform to the present problems and for the posterity of the island and its relationship with the country. Among the more notable promises made is that if voters elect a majority of republican senators into the Guam Legislature, they will require the public disclosure of the “law enforcement disciplinary process.” It is revealing, indeed, that the republicans can’t bring themselves to use the phrases “police corruption” and “police brutality,” but that is exactly what they are saying they will attack by requiring disclosure of the disciplinary process. Last week another document was released. In federal court. It contains two lengthy and descriptive applications for wire tap warrants made in 2018 in the U.S. District Court of Hawaii about a drug trafficking-police and public corruption conspiracy that allegedly occurred between 2016 and 2018. Those were the final three years of the Eddie Calvo-Ray Tenorio administration. That was the last time republicans were in charge of the government. The wire tap warrants contain hundreds of pages of evidence gathered by the FBI indicating that major meth traffickers were paying influential law enforcement officers to protect their drug dealing, to allow the importation of meth, and to go after their competitors. Among the evidence presented was the assertion that the dirty cops involved were connected right into Adelup. Significant portions of these wire tap warrants describe a now-retired cop - a target of the overall federal investigation - who commanded the now-defunct Mandana Drug Task Force. According to the evidence presented by the FBI special agent who applied for the wire taps, Mandana was used as a tool by at least one major drug trafficker - (and the suspicion was that the... Frank Report is investigating the conviction of Lawrence Chan Paine, who is currently residing at a medium-security prison located 10 miles west of Plymouth, Wisconsin. He is serving two life sentences for two counts of first-degree intentional homicide murder in Wisconsin. The dead men, Janari Saddler and Aaron Harrington, were shot multiple times in the upstairs flat of a Milwaukee duplex on April 10, 2004. There was no physical evidence linking Paine to the murders. An Alabama man who told a police officer, “Get your ass out of the way” after he was ticketed during a traffic stop last year says he was ordered by a judge to either apologize to the officer for having cursed at him or face up to 30 days in jail. But Reginald Burks says he is prepared to sacrifice his freedom because he believes his First and Eighth Amendment rights have been violated. He contends that his freedom of speech has been imposed upon and that he is facing a cruel and unusual punishment. While Alabama law prohibits using “abusive or obscene language” in public, Burks has not been charged with disorderly conduct and he does not believe the word “ass” is barred under the law. After getting a ticket, the officer stood in front of Burks’ car, he said. “He was standing there and wouldn’t move,” Burks said. “I had asked him politely at least twice.” “I said, ‘Sir, step back, get out the way,’” Burks said. “He said, ‘You can go. Go around.’” Burks said he responded: “Get your ass out of the way so I can take my kids to school. That’s why y’all underpaid because y’all act dumb.” Burks drove off and apologized to his daughter for the exchange. The Ozark Police Department said Burks case was no longer a law enforcement matter because the fine had been paid, but did not answer additional questions about the incident. Burks appeared in court last month prepared to plead guilty, pay the fine and put the ordeal behind him. But after he paid the fine, which totaled $211.12, including a $20 fine, as well as service and court fees, Ozark Municipal Court Judge Nicholas Bull told him that he must also write an apology to the officer for allegedly having cursed at him. Burks declined. Do you think Frank Serpico was set up by his colleagues during the drug bust of 1971? On February 3, 1971, the day of the near-fatal drug bust, Serpico was accompanied by two colleagues. They instructed Serpico to get the apartment door open; after that, they claimed, they would handle the rest. The plan made sense to Serpico; the suspects were Hispanic, and he was the only Spanish-speaking officer on the scene. So, unaware of his colleagues’ looming betrayal, he convinced the occupants to open the door, pushed his way in, and snapped the chain. It was then that everything went wrong. The suspect slammed the door shut, wedging Serpico’s body half-in and half-out. Nestled into the eastern foothills of the Berkshire Mountains, the hamlet of Leyden is one of the tiniest towns in Massachusetts. With a population of 734, it is one of the few Massachusetts municipalities not served by any state highways. Mills and dairy farms once employed many in town. Today, maple sugaring is a primary industry. Driving north into town, the winding street cuts a path up into the undulating hills. Near the top of one of the hills, a short gravel driveway leads visitors to Ginger Robinson and Sara Seinberg’s house. When asked for directions to get there, Seinberg told me to look for the “big-ass truck” with hot-rod flames on it. Robinson is in the middle of putting a flatbed on the pickup, which she stumbled across last year on an online auction website. While the black flames on the army-green truck are attention grabbing, the couple has become notable in Leyden for a different reason. Last Monday, the local district attorney’s office announced that prosecutors had charged Leyden’s former longtime police chief Daniel Galvis, who retired in 2021, with stealing equipment from the town: a skid-steer loader, a motor, a trailer, and a Ford truck, to be specific. Some of the equipment the town had obtained through a Department of Defense program that transfers surplus gear to law enforcement agencies. Prosecutors alleged Galvis had sold it for his own personal gain. Amid the ongoing action against drug peddlers in Assam, the Nagaon district police in Assam arrested a constable allegedly assisting drug dealers. ‼️⚠️Meet Jadarrius Rose. This twenty-three year old, black truck driver was pulled over for a missing mud flap but according to body cam footage the officer was pointing a gun at Jadarrius. Jadarrius decided to keep driving because he was scared for his life, he even called 911 to ask what he was supposed to do. He later told press, “I didn’t want to die.” Jadarrius was then tagged down by about six cop cars, where he cooperated with officers getting onto his knees and putting his hands up. The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has strongly criticized the provincial government of Sindh for the dismal law and order situation in the province, particularly in Karachi.
