A much needed T206 Dolly Gray Polar Bear upgrade has been obtained for my set. I have had this raw beater Dolly Gray for sometime now but could never really find the right time or card to upgrade to but when I saw this pop up on Sterling Auctions a few weeks back, I thought it was the perfect addition to the set. It may be a bit over graded for a 3.5 but the back is super clean (which I want over anything on the front) and it has some very normal Polar Bear tobacco staining as well. If you were curious on where this stands on the POP report, as of May 1st there was an @sgcgrading 5.0 out there along with one 4.5 and four 4's. So this 3.5, there are 2, are right in the middle of the 22 they have graded. If only SGC had a set registry but maybe with the ownership change that will come as this takes me to 34 SGC graded T206 Polar Bear's in my 250 card set. #t206 #t206polarbear #collectbaseballcards #vintage #prewar

What a beautiful day! 🎪🌞 The sun was definitely shining for the annual Newtown Church Fete set in the glourious grounds of Meonwood. This has everything you'd expect a village fete to have and lots more. These few photos only show the transport on display, but there was entertainment, games, food, drink and live music! The event was extremely well supported. Well done to all the organisers for putting on another great show. . Primrose had much attention and was the joint oldest car on show (the other was a Rolls-Royce!). The oldest vehicle overall was the superb 1917 built Garrett Showmans Tractor. . One slight issue was the very soft ground, and the last image shows a team of tractors trying to pull a very stuck fire engine! Amazingly, three tractors working together couldn't budge it. Later in the day, the appliance had gone, but I'm not sure how they finally moved it. . All together, it was a fantastic event with a great atmosphere and wonderful company. . The engine and crew were on their way to @thewatercressline as 'The Favourite' will be starring in the Thomas the Tank Engine event next week. 1911 T36 Auto Drivers - This is one of the earliest auto drivers sets with real drivers and gorgeous color lithographic images. These cards can be very difficult to acquire in high grade condition. They had a very limited release prior to the dissolution of the American Tobacco Company (the makers of the T206 baseball set). The back of the cards state that they are from Series No. 1, but a second series was never released. This is a 25 card set with Hassan and Mecca backs from Factory 649 and Factory 30 which creates a 100 card master set. When the German Wehrmacht rolled into Austria in March 1938, one of its soldiers stood out. A 21-year-old sergeant-cadet in the 98th Jäger Regiment, his hair was jet-black, and his features were distinctly Asian. His name was Chiang Wei-kuo, and he was the adopted son of China’s ruler Chiang Kai-shek. Chiang Wei-kuo was the biological son of Dai Jitao, one of Chiang Kai-shek’s closest associates, and Dai Jitao’s Japanese mistress. Chiang Kai-shek had agreed to adopt him at the age of three and since then he had treated the boy with great affection, not least because of his good looks. From 1934 to 1936, Chiang Wei-kuo studied physics at Dongwu University in the east Chinese city of Suzhou, while also enrolling in a program for reserve officers. This ended in September 1937, when Chiang Kai-shek, who at the time had strong pro-German sympathies, sent him off to Germany for advanced military training. Chiang Wei-kuo became a student at the Kriegsakademie, or War Academy, in the south German city of Munich. It was in his capacity of a cadet at this institution that he found himself on a German truck crossing the Austrian border in the early hours of March 12, 1938. There was no fighting, as the union with Germany was generally welcomed by the Austrians. Instead, Chiang Wei-kuo and other officer candidates ended up commanding Austrian army units as they were incorporated into the Wehrmacht, according to Jay Taylor, the biographer of Chiang Wei-kuo’s stepbrother Chiang Ching-kuo. After Austria, next up for the German army was the occupation of the Sudetenland, the largely German-speaking part of Czechoslovakia, in October 1938. Chiang Wei-kuo did not participate, even though he later admitted he would have liked to, Jay Taylor writes in his biography.
Adrian “Addie” Joss (April 12, 1880 – April 14, 1911), nicknamed “the Human Hairpin” pitched for the Cleveland Bronchos, later known as the Naps, between 1902 and 1910. Joss pitched the fourth perfect game in baseball history. His 1.89 career earned run average (ERA) is the second-lowest in MLB history, behind Ed Walsh, while his career WHIP of 0.968 is the lowest of all-time. In April 1911, at the young age of 31, Joss became ill and he died the same month due to tuberculous meningitis. He finished his career with 160 wins, 234 complete games, 45 shutouts and 920 strikeouts.
