Me, Jeanne & Hershey Pup are pretty well settled in at Steamboat Landing RV Park and Marina in Milton, Delaware. Catchin’ some nice sunsets across the Broadkill River right along the RV park. We’re 15 minutes from our property and the house build, which is proving handy. This is an entirely different RV park situation than we’ve been used to in our 4 years of full-time RV travel. It’s 98% long-term/permanent seasonal sites…over 400 of them. Only about 8 transient sites. It has been strange since arriving on May 1st, their opening day of the season. We pulled in to the park and there were nearly 400 campers here…but no people! It was like a camper ghost town! This is the type of place where folks (mostly from DE and PA) set up campers (TTs and 5th wheels) and leave them here permanently year-round. Seems folks start coming back to their campers mid/late May. Some will stay full-time throughout the season, while others will come for the weekends as “getaway homes away from homes”. Many have boats as the RV park also has 70 boat slips on the river. We’ve had to pay up front for an entire season for a full-hook up site, regardless of how long we stay. Originally, we planned to need it until October, but now it’s looking like only August for the house to be ready…or at least our own RV pad with hook-ups on our property. Still, the discounted full season rate will be cheaper than the regular daily rate. It’s working out fine and the folks here have been friendly and welcoming. It should serve our temporary needs well. The recent encounter with a confirmed tornado near our RV campground has served as a stark reminder of nature's unyielding power and our vulnerability in the face of such storms. Nevertheless, we owe a debt of gratitude to the exceptional efforts of our local law enforcement, Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office, fire and EMS services, highway department, power company, and all other first responders who diligently and selflessly ensured our safety during those turbulent times. It is their dedication that restores hope and inspires us to come together as a stronger community, ready to face any challenges that may lie ahead. We are grateful to report that there were no injuries in our area, however there is a lot of damage, especially with trees. The confirmed tornado had a 7 mile path and was an EF1 with winds 86-110 mph. Well, our arrival into Mooresville, NC area didn't go exactly as planned... a fractured wrist for me (Amie). It wasn't displaced, and no surgery needed - counting my blessings! Painful, yet it could have been worse! Shortly after I got done at Urgent Care and we got to our daughter's house, her hubby sliced his finger open and needed 8 stitches in the ER! Our short visit was even shorter thanks to all this chaos!! 🧚Sisterhood of Traveling Naked Fairies 🧚 It amazes me that of all the places we have traveled, that this forest is still my favorite place on the planet. A solo girls trip to the hot springs as a late mother's day gift. We have arrived in Oregon for the summer and obviously the first stop needed to be the hot springs. It was nice hanging out with fellow mommas after months of being on the road and it removed some of the feelings of isolation and loneliness. Sometimes traveling with children can limit the activities you can participate in, and these particular hotsprings were well above 115 degrees making them unsafe for baby E. So I'm rather grateful to D for giving me a solo day in the forest. We have all kinds of plans to build our community this summer, to strengthen the relationships that add value to our lives, and to make core memories in the trees. The Creede Underground Mining Museum is an interesting stop. The museum is located in a mountain on the north side of town and shares its space with the town's community center. It was never an active mine but is definitely worth a stop. The tour takes about 30 minutes and is self-guided with a narrated headset. Creede, Colorado started out as a mining town in the late 1800's. It currently has a year round population of about 600, which swells to 10 times that in the summer. We found that our visit was a little early in the season as many of the restaurants and activities were not yet in full swing, but we still enjoyed our visit. Being that the elevation of Creede is almost 9,000 feet, it was still quite cold (lows near freezing the night we were there). The pics include shots of downtown as well as the mountains surrounding the town. Did you notice the fire station is located in the side of the mountain? And we discovered four deer crossing the road which just stopped and stared at us! The last two pics are from the boondocking spot we were originally going to camp at before our plans changed. There were some beautiful views from up there! Next post is about the Underground Mining Museum which was open. When you live in a RV, organization is everything! Here’s my best tips for RV kitchen organization: *Clear containers in the fridge keep things from moving/shifting on travel day. I also use fridge liners in each container for extra spill insurance but so far they are spill free🙌🏻 *Clear air tight containers do the same thing in the pantry and add insurance against ants/bugs. *Added shelving in the cabinets adds vertical space *Using thick shelf liner keeps things from shifting in the pantry/cabinets. *Keep only one of everything and cut down on gadgets to keep the clutter at a minimum.
