June 1st 2024🏳️🌈 #prideparade #towerdistrictfresno 🏳️🌈 I've been queer for as long as I can remember but I have never been to a legit pride parade💁 This was quite the experience🥲 rainbows everywhere, so many people I even saw some friends from roller derby and poetry🤗 warms my gay little heart to see it, growing up it was always "gay is not OK🙅" it felt like I was a bad person just for being myself. Este mes tiene sus raíces en los disturbios de Stonewall (Nueva York, EUA) de 1969, un momento crucial en la historia de los derechos LGBTIQ+. Durante estos eventos, activistas como Marsha P. Johnson y Sylvia Rivera resistieron la brutalidad policial, catalizando un movimiento global por la libertad y la dignidad de las personas LGBTIQ+. 🏳⚧🇦🇷🏳️🌈 En Argentina, también hemos alcanzado hitos significativos en esta lucha. En 2010, la aprobación de la Ley de Matrimonio Igualitario posicionó a nuestro país como el primero en América Latina en reconocer legalmente el matrimonio igualitario. Este avance no solo otorgó derechos, representó un paso fundamental hacia la equidad y el reconocimiento de nuestras identidades. En 2012, Argentina nuevamente hizo historia con la sanción de la Ley de Identidad de Género. Permitiendo a las personas trans, su reconocimiento en derechos humanos. Marsha P. Johnson (August 24, 1945 – July 6, 1992) was an American gay liberation activist and self-identified drag queen. Known as an outspoken advocate for gay rights, Johnson was one of the prominent figures in the vanguard of the Stonewall uprising in 1969. A founding member of the Gay Liberation Front, Johnson co-founded the gay and transvestite advocacy organization S.T.A.R. (Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries), alongside close friend Sylvia Rivera. A popular figure in New York City’s gay and art scene, Johnson modeled for Andy Warhol, and performed onstage with the drag performance troupe, Hot Peaches. Known for decades as a welcoming presence in the streets of Greenwich Village, Johnson was known as the “mayor of Christopher Street”. From 1987 through 1992, Johnson was an AIDS activist with ACT UP. Shortly after the 1992 pride parade, Johnson’s body was discovered floating in the Hudson River. Police initially ruled the death a suicide, but Johnson’s friends and other members of the local community insisted Johnson was not suicidal and noted that the back of Johnson’s head had a massive wound. Johnson was cremated and her ashes were released over the river by her friends following a funeral at the local church.
