What are some of your proudest accomplishments, President Surridge? #10QCountdown President Surridge: Jack and I are deeply grateful to be parents, and we’re immensely proud of our daughter Jessie, who is a wonderful person. I’m also very proud of my nieces and nephews. They have been a big part of our lives, and I am delighted to see them all growing and thriving in their individual lives. Professionally, I’ve enjoyed serving the mission of North Park in various leadership roles over the past 20 years. I’m especially pleased about our work together for a very successful Campaign North Park, which has given us the extraordinary Johnson Center to advance learning and our campus experience. I’ve also enjoyed working in undergraduate admissions a great deal. It’s given me the opportunity to share the mission of North Park on the front lines, and invite students to study with us. Today, I am blessed and excited to be North Park’s 10th president and continue our path to the future. Link in bio!

We asked President Surridge: What are your favorite places to travel to? Are there any destinations on your bucket list? #10QCountdown President Surridge: We had a wonderful opportunity to travel to Hawaii as a family a few years ago. It was such a beautiful place to experience and enjoy. Closer to home, as I’ve mentioned, we enjoy spending time in the summer in Green Lake, Wisconsin, which is our home away from home where we relax and have fun with extended family. Looking ahead, we’d love to travel to Europe, especially Scandinavia, Athens, Paris and London.

President Surridge, what are your hobbies? - Daniel Strom C'20 #10QCountdown President Surridge: I enjoy dinner with friends and trying new restaurants. My daughter, Jessie, recently introduced me to SoulCycle, which has been a lot of fun to do together when she’s home from college. Our family loves to watch movies and share a big bowl of popcorn – I always make mine the old-fashioned way, on the stovetop, with lots of melted butter. And in the summer, when we’re at Green Lake, I will usually read while my husband Jack spends time fishing. There’s nothing like a summer sunset on Green Lake!

We asked President Surridge: How do you like to start your day? #10QCountdown She responded: First, COFFEE! Then, I’m energized by a combination of reflection and exertion. I’m an early riser, so I begin with time to read and pray, especially with a passage from one of the Jesus Calling devotionals. I also love a good run to get my exercise in early. In fact, I’m inviting all students, faculty, and staff to join me in the Helwig Recreation Center on Monday, February 11 (tomorrow!) as we kick off Inauguration Week with the 10k for $10K: Run for the Fund. There will be three legs throughout the day, and the run will help to raise money for North Park scholarships. Register at link in bio! https://npu.me/RunForTheFund

In the days leading up to the Presidential Inauguration, we are getting to know North Park's 10th President better. Today we asked: What do you love most about Chicago, President Surridge? #10QCountdown She tells us: "I love that we engage the city for learning and discovery. I love Lake Michigan, all of the cultural opportunities, and the 5,000 restaurants that make up Chicago (I’m trying to make my way through all of them!)"

"President Surridge, what are your favorite family traditions? #10QCountdown President Surridge: Christmas is my very favorite holiday and it’s also our daughter’s birthday, so together with Jack and our daughter Jessie, we host gatherings for family and enjoy time with friends. And we’ve discovered that our new home, Hawkinson House, is a joy to fill with Christmas decorations. Our summer tradition is to head up to Green Lake, Wisconsin, and enjoy the great outdoors with family and friends. I also love Fourth of July. "

With nine days to go before Inauguration, today’s #10QCountdown question for President Surridge is: What music do you like and what’s on your playlist? Have you ever played an instrument? President Surridge: I did play the flute in high school, and I especially love to listen to our student musicians. I am so delighted that many of them will be part of the Inauguration ceremony, and especially the Showcase of the Arts on February 14. I do love spiritual music and hymns, and enjoy listening to inspirational music when I’m out running in the neighborhood. Topping my playlist these days is “You Say” by contemporary Christian singer-songwriter Lauren Daigle. Show some love for the School of Music, Art and Theatre on February 14!
