The first Porsche (or at least the first I saw properly) in Africa. Super clean first Gen (957) Cayenne GTS. Prayed to be a manual, as I always do when seeing one of these, but as so often it’s not. But the early GTS are already a rolling quirk for their own. In the early 2000s, the SUV market was a bit different. Instead of a useless lifestyle vehicle like today, most manufacturers thought potential customers would actually use these cars off-road. So the first Cayenne came with many all-terrain features such as off-road tires, air suspension that (seriously) raised the car and differential locks. Then, with the facelift, Porsche realized not a single customer ever drove his Cayenne on anything else than tarmac. So with the GTS they threw everything over board and prepared the car for the more sporty road use. Lowered it, big wheels, stiff suspension and, for more “driving thrill” they even offered a manual gearbox. Finally done with the boring stuff, also known as maintenance. In the last few weeks I’ve installed: @eurowiseoffroad front lower and upper control arms, spherical front sway bar links, and rear lower control arms. A @bergpeaks 1 inch air suspension lift kit also went in with new OEM strut mounts @premier1autocare got everything dialed in with an alignment Finally I replaced the driver side CV axle after I drove about 3000 miles with a torn boot. A year ago I woke up in a hotel room in Boise, Idaho insanely excited for the day that lay ahead! It was #GotchaDay for the gorgeous Macademia Metallic 957 Cayenne Turbo S I had found on Rennlist. #Mr_Schub (that’s German for boost) impressed me from the very first drive and hasn’t let up since! The 9,349 miles we’ve shared together over the last year have given me the chance to appreciate what an insanely great machine this is! A one car solution that can go fast, has great handling, is ridiculously comfortable AND can go off road, too. A Swiss Army knife vehicle if there ever was one. Perhaps SAV instead of SUV would be a good acronym 🤣 Apart from a dead battery that required a jump (that was completely my fault for not fixing sooner) it’s been smooth sailing! One oil change, one set of tires and one battery are pretty minimal maintenance costs for a Cayenne of this age and I feel super lucky for that. (Knocks immediately on wood after speaking the words…) Also super grateful to the previous owner for being such a good steward and taking care of so much maintenance! Last week I took a “personal day” and Mr Schub and I drove up to #EasternSierras to see how things looked after the big storm. I love seeing the Sierras after a fresh snow and they did NOT disappoint!
