As we close the door on 2023, I want to take a moment to thank everyone for an amazing year. ColtsCapitol continued to grow at an amazing rate, as we reached the 4,000 follower milestone and are inching closer to 5,000. Scouting reports were created, discussions were had, and lots and lots of news was shared. We even introduced ColtsCapitol+, a subscription service offering unique and exclusive Colts content to subscribers, which will be continued in 2024. 2023 was a big rebound from 2022. The Colts hired Shane Steichen and drafted Anthony Richardson to pair with him, creating a duo which has made a great initial impression. All signs point to both staying in Indianapolis for the foreseeable future. After closing the previous season with a loss to the Texans, Steichen has the Colts on the verge of their first double digit win season and playoff berth since 2020. The future is bright for the Colts, and remains bright for this page as well. You hear it all the time, but I am nowhere near done. I have big plans for 2024, which will help to elevate ColtsCapitol to new heights, and I can’t wait to share them all with you. I created this page for you guys, the fans, and I will continue to create content with the community at the top of mind. I had hoped to create a place where the Colts community can unite with each other, and I feel like I have made tremendous progress towards making that a reality. Once again, thank you everyone for all the support. Per Joel Erickson, Colts TE Drew Ogletree was arrested earlier today and charged with "domestic battery, committed in physical presence of a child less than 16, knowing child present and might be able to see/hear," according to online records at Hendricks County Jail. There is currently no bond listed. The team is aware of the ongoing situation and the second-year tight end is not expected to be active on Sunday as the organization continues to gather all the facts. Ogletree’s arrest is a horrible situation to arise as the Colts prepare to make their final push towards the playoffs. The offense looked like an entirely new unit tonight as Parks Frazier was excellent in his first game calling plays, especially on the offensive line. Will Fries made his first career start and made a big impact. The line allowed just one sack on Ryan and produced over 150 rushing yards. This game feels a lot like the Pittsburgh game last year. I made a similar post to this one after that game, so I decided to do it again. With everything to play for, the Colts drop a game they should’ve had and leave it up to their performance in the final week. While this loss is undoubtedly a tough one to stomach, let’s look at the bigger picture for a second. The following players had spent time on the COVID list prior to today: Carson Wentz, Darius Leonard, Rock Ya-Sin, Braden Smith, Quenton Nelson, Khari Willis. That’s on the shorter end of the list but the bottom line is we went into this game with at least six starters who had dealt with the virus. That’s not ideal. While it’s not an excuse, it certainly seems like a reason for the sluggish start and overall poor performance by a lot of guys today. And while Frank Reich undoubtedly deserves some blame, he was starting a quarterback with zero practice time this week. Again, not ideal. So why people still continue to want him fired after every loss this team suffers will never cease to confuse me. Additionally, this team had just pulled off two massive back to back wins over two of the best teams in the league this year, and one of those came with a bunch of backups starting. A loss was bound to happen, let’s be thankful it didn’t come in the postseason, when it matters. Secondly, and much more importantly, WE ARE NOT DONE. And, we are still in the playoffs with our own destiny in our hands. We’re in another win and you’re in scenario like last year against a struggling Jacksonville Jaguars team. That said, our work is cut out for us. The Colts have not won in Jacksonville since 2014, which is a significant storyline heading into this matchup. This game is not to be taken lightly. However, if any Colts team can overcome this hurdle, it’s this team. Let’s turn the page on today, and focus on clinching in Week 18. Onto Jacksonville.
Final from Lucas Oil Stadium. Colts lose a tight battle as they fall to 9-7 and are unable to lock up a playoff spot. Without practicing all week, Carson Wentz visibly wasn’t the same. He struggled to get going early and had some critical missed passes. His line: 16/27 148 yards 1 TD. For the first time, the Colts lose with Jonathan Taylor rushing for over 100 yards, as he struggled to really impose himself against a physical Raiders front. Defensively, Darius Leonard and Isaiah Rodgers both intercepted Derek Carr, but it proved to not be enough as Wentz and the offense couldn’t convert. Bobby Okereke lead the way with 10 tackles while Kwity Paye added a sack. Deforest Buckner and Kemoko Turay both also shared a sack. Two highlights on the day included Michael Pittman Jr. eclipsing 1,000 yards on the season and Jonathan Taylor becoming the franchise leader in rushing yards during one season. Clear signs of progress from a talented 2020 draft class. The Colts will turn the page here quickly, as their focus shifts to Jacksonville as they will look to find their way into the playoffs in Week 18. Indy never seems to have an easy time on the road against the Jags, so the magnitude of this week can not be emphasized enough. Las Vegas improve ls to 9-7 keeping their playoff hopes alive as they head home for a divisional matchup against the Chargers to close out the year. Per Mike Chappell, the Colts have activated the following players from the reserve/COVID-19 list: QB Carson Wentz RT Braden Smith CB TJ Carrie Smith and Carrie are set to play on Sunday. Wentz is required to be cleared in the morning, but in all likelihood will play.
