Today @miamischools and @mdcpscommunity recognized the volunteers and community partners throughout the county that tirelessly give of their talents, time, and treasure for the betterment of our schools. The impact volunteers and partners make on students is immeasurable! And at Calusa, it's no different. We got to spotlight one of our biggest community partners, Vanessa Cabrera of @lasmadrinasdelosseguros for their nonstop support of Calusa with such love and dedication. Our biggest cheerleader, Mrs. Vazquez (and proud momma to Vanessa) was there for her continuous efforts in all things Calusa, from the extra attention to every detail she does for Calusa, to being such an extraordinary educator, that has touched the lives of countless students. Why do I volunteer so much? A question I get asked often and it has a two part answer. First, Calusa and all who are a part of it have always made my children happy, afterall, it is their home away from home. So, it's only natural to want to make your second home as special as your first. Second, I'd be lying if I said volunteering does nothing in return for me ..... actually, it's not nearly as altruistic as it seems, because frankly, the smiles on the children's faces and the happiness I can help bring to our amazing school, does far more for me and my heart, than I do for it. Today was a very big day for our 5th graders, it was their 5th grade banquet! Many of these students have been Calusa Cuties since Kindergarten and some even since Pre-K. It's hard to believe that there are only two and a half weeks left of school and two and a half weeks left of their elementary school years 🥹 We wish all of our 5th graders the very best of luck. May you always carry the education, the values and the love you have received at Calusa with you, not just to middle school, but throughout your entire lives. We are very proud of the extraordinary young ladies and gentlemen you have turned out to be. They spent the day partying like rock stars and enjoyed an extraordinary banquet. We are tremendously thankful for Calusa's community partners, that have gone above and beyond in helping make the 2021-2022 school year as close to normal as possible.... and it turns out, in part thanks to them, it was an AMAZING year after all! These companies made it a point to provide opportunities, donations and most of all, JOY to Calusa students and for that, we are eternally grateful 🙏 - Piglet from Winnie the Pooh noticed that even though he had a very small heart, it could hold a very large amount of gratitude- we think the same is true of children. The joy was obviously seen on their faces, but we are certain the joy in their hearts is everlasting. It's that time of year! Time to help make a difference in your community and by joining Calusa's PTA you'll be doing just that! Anyone can join PTA, not just parents with students at Calusa. Grandparents, family members and community members that would just like to give back to a very worthy cause. Membership dues to our PTA, go towards helping enrich our school and ensuring we help Calusa give the very best educational experience to our students. Some of the things our PTA has been proud to fund in just the last couple of years have been: ⭐ Sail shades on both sides of the school to help protect students from the sun during drop off and pick up. ⭐ New electronic marquee (we hope it will be up very soon) ⭐ Fence around the perimeter of the school ensuring continued safety of our students. ⭐ Purchase of AR reading program to help promote and create excitement about reading. ⭐ Funding of the Calusa Times ⭐ Purchase of yoga matts for all students, faculty and staff last year to help promote and enrich healthy socio-emotional habits after the pandemic. ⭐ Agendas and folders for all students to help them keep organized throughout the school year. ⭐ Upgrade our Media Center ⭐ And other fun events and incentives for our community!
