In the last couple of days, it has truly been hectic but rewarding. Updating the online shop, driving the furniture of @rivieravintagecom to the warehouse, speaking French in the most mysterious situations, fixing the broken air-conditioning, buying a new bed and carrying it to the 6th floor to name a few. But still, all this work, we are doing for us. It feels wonderful! Tchin tchin for trying out.
I feel so lucky to be able to enjoy this scenary every day. But still. At the same time, I need to add that it required 2 years of hard appartment buying process, unrealized Airbnb income due to covid, environmental decisions of dramatically cutting/stopping flying, uncertainty, financial stress, and discussions within the family how to value our life and what is really important. It required giving up a well-paid job of my dreams as MD, working a year in an inspiring, yet personally financially challenging start-up, health issues within the near and dear just to mention a few. The process is still ongoing as there are a lot of things cooking behind the scenes which will tighten our relationship to France. It is really worth following your heart but it surely doesn't come for free 😉
I am very fortunate to live most of my days in France either looking at the ever changing landscape of the sea or listening to the steady pace of the waves crashing to the shore. The sea is such a calming and new thoughts creating element. It makes me to think both far and near at the same time.
The second-hand shops re-opened today after the lock-down so we were able to start looking for new treasures. The pale green armoire with golden stripes reminds me of Parisian appartments. It would look wonderful in our bedroom but is after all too big to the room - not to mention how to get it into the 6th floor by myself 🙈. But it was in such a perfect shape for an old antique / vintage piece. I hope this closet doesn't start hount me... Tomorrow we'll head to Nice and try to find other wonderful items.
This beautiful house is located in the Vieux Port de Cannes. Everytime I walk past the doorway I try to take peak in the people who live or work there. So far I haven't seen anyone but the building remains equally inviting. #cannesisyours
Even though we decided to buy a house in Côte d'Azur, it doesn't mean that I didn't find other areas of France wonderful. Therefore, I wrote the first article in which I introduce different parts, sights, and places worth to visit in France. The first areas are Normandie, Nouvel Aquitaine, Centre - Val de Loire, and obviously - Côte d'Azur. The later part of the article has been created together with @finnlinessuomi *kaupallinen yhteistyö * You can find my link in bio or go directly to www.tarinoidentaival.fi
It takes about 5-10 minutes from our home to this beautiful spot at Plage du Midi, Cannes. It is Hanna's and my favorite spot as just on the other side of the rail tracks, there is a big playground under the shades of the green trees. So first we go playing and then continue to the beach for more fun and taking these sunset pictures!
At our home in Cannes I enjoy so much of the little culinary shops which are all specialized in certain ingredients like poissonerie, boucherie, boulangerie, cheese shops, wine shops etc. One of my favourites is a shop which sells fresh tortellinis and other pasta delicacies ☺️

My name is Madame Bond and I can renovate your house! No, really. This is my last day in Cannes until the return in a couple of months and today it has been just unbelievably tough day in doing things I've never done before. But now I can say that I'm pretty darn excellent in putting silicone in kitchen and bathroom (in the late hours!). Hence, the shades as I'm so beat and there is soooo much to do...
What have I learned in being alone for 24hours? ° There is so much free time! I say this in a good way but I mean with all this time I could be writing books or to get so much things done. (It doesn't mean I want to though). ° I like being in my own company. So in that sense I feel I'm ok. I was a bit afraid if I didn't like being alone. ° I miss Timo, Emma, Laura, and Hanna. It's nice to be alone but I feel like I'm just on holiday. Being without my family is not what I want from life in the long run.
There is still a lot to do but I am already now celebrating what we have achieved so far! #newkitchen
After long hours of renovating our home, it is so satisfying to see some corners finished. This is my working / make-up table in our bedroom and it has splendid views to the green hills of Cannes. I will show you a photo through the windows once the terrasse is cleaned from the paint cans and reno equipment...
Things don't always go according to the plans. We have encountered unexpected hinders along the way with the renovation. Well, more or less all the time... On top, I have to admit that I am not as "allmighty" health wise as I used to. It is not peachy to run around the clock days with the weeks long renovation combined with work and 5-member family with 2 parents working during the days, 2 teens having long-distance school, and one lovely and super active 5-year old running around. Even with one extra week, it feels quite demanding running against the clock. Therefore, it is darn hard to approve quality lesser than 100% or less work done. But it's either that or to face sick leave like yesterday 😬 Still, I wouldn't change being here. Looking at the sunsets like these in the blue hour just gives me so much depth to the mundane. I just love it living here so much.

Happy Epiphany to everyone. I would like to share the intriguing tradition of Galette des Rois which was actually new to me. Therefore, we didn't got a change to buy one today (all were sold out) but the cakes are available the whole January so maybe tomorrow we'll have a try! 🤴 Galette des Rois = The king cake takes its name from the biblical Kings and is conmemorated in the Solemnity of Epiphany. What started out roughly 300 years ago as a dry French bread–type dough with sugar on top and a bean inside now comes in many varieties depending on the country. Some king cakes are made of a sweet brioche dough in the shape of a hollow circle with a glazed topping sprinkled with colored sugar. Tradition holds that the cake is "to draw the kings" to the Epiphany. A figurine, la fève, which can represent anything from a car to a cartoon character, is hidden in the cake, and the person who finds the trinket in his or her slice becomes king for the day and will have to offer the next cake. Originally, la fève was literally a broad bean (fève), but it was replaced in 1870 by a variety of figurines made out of porcelain or—more recently—plastic. These figurines have become popular collectibles and can often be bought separately. Individual bakeries may offer a specialized line of fèves depicting diverse themes from great works of art to classic movie stars and popular cartoon characters. A paper crown is included with the cake to crown the "king" who finds the fève in their piece of cake. To ensure a random distribution of the cake shares, it is traditional for the youngest person to place themselves under the table and name the recipient of the share which is indicated by the person in charge of the service. Formerly, the cake was divided into as many shares as there were guests, plus one. The latter, called "the share of God," "share of the Virgin Mary," or "share of the poor" was intended for the first poor person to arrive at the home.
This year has been full of life changing moments. We have been brave enough to take many leaps of faith in 2020. Our dream of living in France has become a reality and I have found my dream job along with the most intelligent and warmhearted people whom I can now call my friends. This year has been good for us in spite of many challenges which have equally come our way. I wish you all happy new year! May it bring happiness and joy!
The year is soon coming to an end. We have been fortunate to witness how well the health care systems and the societies at large work both in Finland and in France during Covid-19. The pandemia has taught me many lessons but one of the most important one is that the goodness, helpfullness, and empathy in people unites us no matter the culture or country. The humanity has revealed itself again and showed how similar we are and how similar the things we value are. #socialimpact
Our life in Cannes is pretty quite and very much lock-down like. Working and working out, renovating and visiting large second-hand storages, and just being with the family. But the light and the warmth of the sun makes all the difference. Indeed, I know that our 1 year long strugglen to get the house was totally worth it.
It will be a long travel from Finland to France. 😅 1) 200km from Espoo to Turku 2) Over-night ferry to Stockholm @vikinglinesuomi 3) 500km through Sweden 4) Over-night ferry to Germany 5) 800km to Switzerland 6) Hotel in Switzerland 7) 600km via Italy to Cannes My journey starts tomorrow and the rest of the family follows me on Thursday. Hop on board tomorrow afternoon!
I want to share with you one of my favourite beaches in Cannes. Or better said on the Île Saint Honorat 15 minuttes by ferry from Cannes. There is no clear path to this little cove but you rather have to find your way through a tight spiky bush scratching your legs until you can see this view. Last time we visited this place, there was just us and an old Man who probably comes swimming here every day. The water was cristal clear and the views beyond divine. This is the place I think of when needing good thoughts and happy places.
Today things started finally going fast forward. It feels good and scary at the same time - just like big dreams tend to do, right? So in a few days our wonderful renovation guy starts making miracles at our home in Cannes and not just a part of it but the whole renovation once and for all. As the wheels started moving this fast, it means that we need to make our plans ready for the winter escape. Why? Because a part of the renovation requires me being in France in making some interior decoration choices and purchases. So the count-down has began! Cheers!
I can't wait to start decorating our balcony even though it is not on the very top of our renovation to-do-list. I know there will be an instant gratification of getting everything organized, functioning, and beautiful as we indeed use this balcony the most of all the rooms at home. The balcony is fairly small and we need to be able to fit a 6 person dining table (probably 2 foldable tables), combined built-in sunset sofa & storage unit for chair cushions & sand toys, and space for drying the laundry and beach towels. I would love to find either dark wood or old & romantic French iron furniture. Oh well, dreaming and planning is fun.
