Finally got to see @paradebway yesterday, and I was completely blown away. It’s heavy and intense, but also gorgeous at the same time. It stays with you after you leave the theatre, and you can’t stop thinking about it. I saw @bensplatt twice in Dear Evan Hansen, but his voice in this is just otherworldly. Every note seemed effortless. It was perfection. And the music in general was just superb. Jason Robert Brown outdid himself with this one. It’s the kind of music that seeps into you, and you can feel it flowing through you as you’re listening. My dad has been not-so-subtlely hinting for weeks that he wants to see Huskers (his name for @shuckedmusical ), and last night we finally made it to Cob County. I can honestly say I don’t know the last time I laughed that much. I went in with zero expectations and had the best time. There are corny jokes (pun intended), dad jokes, and witty jokes. And goodness did I need to laugh! Also, how lucky we are to have @thealexnewell back on Broadway! They slayed every time they entered that stage. “Don’t bet against New York.” Thank goodness for waterproof mascara because I started crying with the first opening notes of @nynybway . This is a love letter to NYC, to its people, to its resiliency, to the dreamers. This cast is phenomenal, beyond talented…there aren’t enough words. I’m just blown away by each and every one of them. THE CHOREOGRAPHY!!!! Please hand Susan Stroman the Tony right now. There are amazing dance sequences that I won’t spoil (but I want to scream about them from the rooftops). But it’s also the in-between moments. Everything from braving the weather to museum art to Grand Central is a dancer’s dream. This choreography is literal perfection. To get to sit in the audience for the first preview of this show with fellow theatre lovers and people who call this amazing city home is something I’ll never forget. Somebody (me) accidentally redeemed points for a 2:00 PM show when she was supposed to be at work, because someone (also me) is completely overwhelmed from her job and is starting to drop the ball on things in her personal life. I went into this knowing I probably wouldn’t like the music, because (other than Sunset Boulevard) I don’t like / understand anything ALW has done. BUT Linedy Genao had me tearing up with her performance of Far Too Late. Carolee Carmello and Grace McLean are hilarious and play off each other perfectly as the stepmother and the queen. The costumes! I NEED all of those dresses to become part of my wardrobe. And the choreography! Yes the dancing was fantastic, but also the way the crowd moved, and the push and pull of characters through their movement. The only thing better than seeing @aarontveit ‘s final performance in May is now seeing his first performance back. Tonight was pure freaking joy. This whole cast was on fire. The audience was living for it. Roxanne was otherworldly - the option up both gave me life and destroyed me. My dad and grandma saw the original production of @musicmanbway in 1958 (swipe for that Playbill), so it was so special being able to see this production with my dad. 1) @suttonlenore is as incredible as ever. Her comedic delivery is pure perfection, and I loved everything about her Marian. 2) I’ve been following @maxmclayton for years, and it was so exciting getting to see him play Harold Hill! He brought so much charm to the role. We all know he has amazing dance moves, but his voice! 😍 Gorgeous! 3) The whole ensemble is incredible, but the kids are the most talented group of little humans that I’ve ever seen. Actually, talented isn’t a big enough word. They are remarkable, extraordinary, and awe-inspiring. 4) I hadn’t heard this music in a long time, so I had forgotten how ahead of his time Meredith Wilson was. Last minute unexpected trip to the Rouge, and I didn’t even know how much my heart needed it. This was my first trip back since the casting change, and naturally I have thoughts. 1) This show could run for 50 years, and @ashleyloren would still be my favorite Satine. Her Firework gives me chills and heals my soul every single time. She is truly magnificent, and we are so lucky to have her as our Sparkling Diamond. 2) @derek_klena . Holy shit. That’s the review. His Christian is optimistic and sincere, and he nails the wide-eyed American being dropped into this Parisian wonderland. He made me fall in love with Christian all over again with his slightly gauche American ways. 3) The chemistry between Ashley and Derek is perfection! I’ve seen this show 10 times now, but I found myself leaning forward every time they had a scene together, rooting for Christian and Satine more than I ever have before. And I now want to go see it 10 more times. My last Tony nominated show before the awards on Sunday and first Pride Playbill of the season! @northcountrybroadway wasn’t quite what I was expecting, but I loved every minute of it. It’s a true ensemble piece, and every artist in this cast is so insanely talented. The music is gorgeous. (I learned tonight that I only know 2 Bob Dylan songs, so it was basically all new music to me.) And the story made me cry. So thankful I got to see this one before it closes in a couple of weeks! BONUS: The Belasco was one of the few remaining Broadway theatres I haven’t visited yet, so I got to cross it off my list. Finally saw @aladdin tonight. The Genie is everything. His one liners, his outfits, his dancing, Michael James Scott’s insane energy level for the whole show…it was everything I could want in a genie. Also, can someone please explain to me how the flying carpet works?!?! On a different note, I completely forgot how gorgeous the New Amsterdam Theatre is. (I hadn’t been there in 15-ish years.) But oh my goodness! I want to live in it and explore every nook and cranny. Made sure to say hello and goodbye to Olive’s photo and hoped her ghost was listening. This was the one of the most joyous nights of theatre that I’ve ever experienced. It was part musical and part rock concert. And there truly aren’t words to describe what it felt like being at @moulinrougebway tonight. @aarontveit is a unicorn. His Christian has been something to behold. I was blessed to see it nine times, and it somehow got better and better. He poured his heart and soul out on that stage every show, and his voice is just otherworldly. @rickyrojas1272 is a freaking star on and off stage. His Ricky Lives have entertained us every week and brought us backstage at the theatre. He was electric as Santiago, and I’m convinced he can sing anything. @tammutu may not have been here tonight, but we’re still celebrating him. If I were Satine, I’d have a hard time choosing between Christian and the Duke, because Tam’s Duke was all charisma. He made you secretly root for the villain, and that’s impressive. I’ve only had the opportunity to see @nataliemendozaofficial twice, but she brought a warmth and vulnerability to Satine that made the character relatable and real. She is indeed a Sparkling Diamond. When they announced that @aarontveit @rickyrojas1272 and @tammutu were leaving, I (virtually) ran to buy tickets to their final performance. I was going through a rough patch at the beginning of this year, and with Waitress gone, this show more than filled the gap of my comfort show. They kept me afloat. They brought me joy and lifted me up with each performance. And I couldn’t miss the chance to experience their genius and celebrate them one last time. This will forever be my heart show. I’ve visited the diner 19 times, and it always feels like coming home. There’s just nothing more magical than a show that speaks to your soul. Side note: I started talking to this girl sitting next to me about our love of the show and our love for Aaron Tveit (obviously). She had come from Oregon to see it again (dedication), and she said I was so lucky to live here. And I truly am lucky - lucky to live close by and work in the city and be able to walk to a Broadway show after work. I’m so damn thankful to have theatre back in my life on an almost weekly basis. Waitress ended their run on Broadway effective immediately due to breakthrough cases. I’m both heartbroken and ridiculously grateful that I saw what was their last performance on Monday night. I’m also ridiculously grateful that they returned to Broadway in September and that I was able to visit the diner 4 more times. What an unexpected gift that was. It’s so hard to explain to people what this show means to me and why I’ve seen it 18 times. Maybe I’ll never be able to put it into words, but I feel it deep in my soul. She is broken and won’t ask for help.” I had a week last week where too many things came at me at once, which ended in an anxiety attack. I hadn’t had a bad one in months, and it hit me like a train. And once I was breathing again, I did what everyone does after an anxiety attack - bought tickets to Waitress. (Oh. Wait. Just me?) In all seriousness though, before the shutdown when my life was falling apart and I needed to put it back together or when I just needed an escape or when I needed to process the world, I went to the theatre. Broadway always gives me sanity. And this show, this music, this story, this diner will forever feel like home. In the words of Dr. Pomatter, “I tend to be neurotic. You calm me down.
