Sometimes I’m prone to alphabetize things, sort them by numerical value, or arrange them by size. And while these methods of organization can help ease my effort to find them again, I think it’s the process of engaging in a rather mindless activity that feels best. Some may believe that it’s a way of controlling my surroundings… a Type A quality… or an obsessive-compulsive tendency… but I disagree. I think it’s more of a harmless coping skill I’ve practiced in order to calm my thoughts and discover peace. So when I bought my new book tree a few months ago, I decided to try something new. I’ve arranged some of my favorite books by the color of their bindings and placed them in rainbow order, of course. Today I’m featuring my red collection. Beginning from right to left, I see themes of the depth of God’s love for us… to ways we show our love for Him in return… to learning more about our healing journey… and how we can bring who we’ve been created and called to be into the midst of our community. Red is a color that represents love, sacrifice, danger, courage, anger, & heat. Red offers no hint of indifference… it’s all about taking our passion and making it happen. While a stop sign commands us to STOP, the color red actually calls us to take action. Perhaps the underlaying message of a stop sign is less of a stop and more of a distinguished pause… to pause along the path of our going… to observe… to assess… to adjust our course if need be… and to proceed safety… because a failure to do so can end tragically. So, my friends… it’s never too late to pause and reflect… to learn new things.
