. . #GeologyTuesday #RockDiscoveryTuesday #EarthScienceTuesday #GeologyRocks #EarthScienceAdventures #GeoDiscovery #RockingGeology #WeeklyWonders #vættelys #belemnitter #belemnites #møn #højemøn #mønsklint #fossil #fossiler

Læså, a unique window into our geological past. In my two years as a geology student, I’ve truly come to appreciate that Denmark isn’t as uninteresting as many might think. One of my absolute favorite spots is Læså in South Bornholm. Here, you gain a completely unique insight into the fantastic geology that Bornholm has to offer. The stream cuts deeply into the rock in several places, allowing for the observation of layer sequences from the geological periods of Cambrian and Ordovician. Especially the path between Vasegård and Lille Kalbygård is fantastic. Here, you first encounter the green shale, followed by Rispebjerg sandstone, alum shale, and both dark and light limestone. The geological layer series spans over 200 million years, from Lower Cambrian to Upper Ordovician, a geological period that ended 400 million years ago. 🪨 The stream itself actually has nothing to do with the origin of the layers. It has simply, over the past few thousand years, carved its way down into the relatively soft layers and exposed them. Originally, the layers were horizontal, but crustal movements have caused displacements in several places. As a result of this tilting, the layers do not lie on top of each other but slant alongside one another. The oldest layers lie to the north and the youngest to the south. These unique conditions contribute to making the area special. #GeologyTuesday #RockDiscoveryTuesday #EarthScienceTuesday #GeologyRocks #EarthScienceAdventures #GeoDiscovery #RockingGeology #WeeklyWonders

Not Caused by Aliens... THE MYSTERIOUS GRAVITATIONAL HOLE IN INDIAN OCEAN The mysterious gravitational anomaly is probably not caused by aliens. Dubbed the “gravity hole,” this enigmatic phenomenon has puzzled scientists for ages. Finally, researchers might have found their answer. Harnessing the power of supercomputers and delving deep into Earth’s history—think 140 million years deep—they’ve unearthed a tantalizing explanation: magma plumes! Yes, these fiery underground rivers, reminiscent of volcanic eruptions, could be the missing link to understanding why the sea level dips by over 328 feet (100 meters) in this gravitational hotspot. So, it’s not extraterrestrial shenanigans—it’s a volcanic symphony playing out beneath our feet! #GravityMysterySolved #EarthScienceAdventures #MagmaPlumeMagic #IndianOceanExploration 🌋🌊🔍 https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/24/world/gravity-hole-geoid-low-indian-ocean-scn/index.html?iid=cnn_buildContentRecirc_end_recirc

Vamos cuidar do nosso patrimônio histórico! 🌳🏞️ Autoria: Andrina Mendes de Souza, Dayane de Jesus Silva Guimarães e Graciene Machado Moura #EscavaçãoDeFósseis #Paleontologia #CiênciaDaTerra #FóssilEncontrado #CuriosidadesPaleontológicas #MundoPré-Histórico #Dinossauros #EarthScienceAdventures #FossilExcavation #DiggingUpThePast #GeologicalWonders #AncientHistory #DinosaurDiscoveries #FossilizedFootprints #DiscoveringTheEarth #PrehistoricWorld #FossilHunting #ScienceWonders #uncoveringhistory
