At Regenerate Outcomes we believe agroforestry can play an important part in improving soil health and building farm resilience. That's why we are excited to share news from our friends @woodlandtrust that farmers are being invited to take part in a scheme to trial advice on agroforestry given as part of the Environmental Land Management Scheme. Participants will receive free advice, plus payment for the time involved. The Defra-funded project will begin in September and is being run by the Woodland Trust. However, farmers are being asked to sign up by the beginning of June. It is aimed at farmers who are interested in implementing agroforestry, but have not received any formal training or advice. Once signed up each farmer will be randomly selected to complete one of four types of training programme: - One-to-one bespoke on-farm advice - Four one-and-a-half hour online training webinars - One day of group training on farm - A self-led course based on a list of resources Once they have completed their training, farmers will be asked to submit a draft agroforestry design using a template provided. They will receive payment as a contribution towards their time participating in the test and can also receive support to apply for funding to implement the scheme if required. They will be asked to complete questionnaires pre and post training to help assess what their knowledge of agroforestry was at the start and how it might have improved through the training. They will also complete a one-to-one interview to give feedback on the training they received. "Back in 2011 we were a 540-acre high input, mixed farm with maybe 150 to 200 acres of arable. “We used fertiliser. We used chemicals. We fed large amounts of grain as feed. We used all inputs we thought could help improve our yield. “We never really thought about the soil at all. I think I once said to my dad that it didn’t matter because the crops only grow in the top two inches anyway. That was my take on it back then. “We made the decision that we wanted to be more intentional about how we managed the soil. I spent the next three years reading everything I could to try and get on top of it all. “I wanted resilience everywhere in the business, whether that was financially or environmentally. I thought that if there was a slightly different way to do it and I could still make money and be more resilient and not damage the environment, then that was worth exploring. “We are primarily motivated by the financial implications but we are also seeing some secondary impacts. We are seeing more birds flying around like curlew and the grey partridge have returned to the farm for the first time in years. I do like the birds but I know that they also indicate that good things are happening for my business. "It’s made me feel really excited about the future, because there’s so much more to learn and we’ve only just begun to scratch the surface.” Meet 2023 Soil Farmer of the Year Stuart Johnson. @wharmleyregen For the last 10 years Stuart and his family have been focusing on improving soil health while reducing inputs and growing profitability at West Wharmley Farm, near Hexham. Stuart will be one of the mentors leading the Understanding Ag #SoilAcademy, which Regenerate Outcomes will be hosting in Northumberland and Oxfordshire in May. Go to our LinkinBio to read Stuart's full story and book your place at the academy now.

Do you want to join our team and help build resilient farms across the UK? We are growing the Regenerate Outcomes team by hiring an Area Sales Manager. Regenerate Outcomes is in an exciting phase of growth, with a desire for as many farmers as possible to benefit from our programme. We aim to be working with 100,000 hectares of British farms by the end of 2026. We are seeking individuals based in local farming communities to help farmers in their area benefit from Regenerate Outcomes. The successful candidate will be strongly rooted in a local farming community, either being an active farmer themselves or working in an allied industry, with a good network of nearby farmers. You will be approaching potentially interested farms with further details of the programme, and guiding those who are interested through the relevant onboarding stages. This will include organising and promoting farm walks and webinars for farmers to further explore our offering. This is an excellent opportunity to be at the forefront of efforts to improve soil health and return value from environmental benefits to farmers, while helping the industry adapt to a low-carbon future. “You can’t really have a problem with making changes to your farming system which help you make a bit more money, where you’re happier and alongside that you’ve got a bit more wildlife as well. No-one can really stand up and say, ‘Well, that’s a rubbish idea’.” 🐞🌱 Meet Liz Genever. Liz farms the 130 hectare Croft Farm, at Uffington, near Stamford, alongside her two sisters Susan and Kate and parents Paul and Yvonne. She is well known for her work as a farm consultant and also as one of the founders of the @CarbonCalling2023 conference, an annual farmer-led event designed to help those who want to use regenerative practices to improve soil health and develop their systems to ensure they are profitable and environmentally aware. Liz has joined a growing number of farmers around the UK by becoming a Regenerate Outcomes member benefiting from: Expert mentoring in improving soil health Monitoring, verification and recording of environmental outcomes Creation of new revenue streams “On any family farm, one of the biggest challenges to making change can be around communicating with everyone else,” says Liz. “In the last few years I’ve really tried to change my thinking, but more importantly engage with my family to bring them along as well. “What I’m hoping is that working with Regenerate Outcomes leads to a better way of working within the family. It is a chance for us all to have much more focus on what we want to achieve. “Regenerate Outcomes can help with that because you are working with outside consultants and it gives the transition some structure. It is also a project which already involves a lot of farmers I know and respect.” Go to our LinkinBio to hear the full story from Liz. "I'm a real advocate for trees, but they have to add value to our farm systems and when we put a tree somewhere, we need to make sure it's in the right place. "My practical, simple definition of agroforestry is that it's about adding woody matter to a farm to aid its productivity." At Regenerate Outcomes we believe trees and hedgerows have an important role to play in growing plant, animal and soil health. Most importantly, they can be used as part of farming system to create resilient and profitable farm businesses. In our latest webinar, we heard from a panel of agroforestry experts, including Peter Leeson from the @woodlandtrust Go to our linkin.bio to watch the full webinar and learn more about how farmers can use trees to: Provide shade and shelter 🐏 Provide browse for animals 🐂 🌿 Improve soil health and fertility 🌾 Control pests 🐞 Get in touch to find out how we can work with you to grow profitability from healthy soils.

🧑‍🌾 🌱 Meet Joe & Rachel: At Regenerate Outcomes, we’re proud to work with farmers across the country, helping to grow profits from healthy soil and build resilient farms. Our members include Joe and Rachel Henry, who farm 300 acres with beef and sheep at Westhills Farm, near Rothbury, Northumberland. “Regenerative farming is a term that people use a lot now but that style of farming isn’t brand new by any means,” says Rachel. “It’s the way we’ve always farmed, and our methods were probably just designed around what we wanted to do, and we learned things along the way. "I love the fact that what's good for the environment is good for our stock and is also good for our bank balance at the same time. “If you look after one of them, then you'll find the other two come as well. As soon as you know that, there's no turning back.” “The mentorship Regenerate Outcomes are offering is extremely attractive, alongside the opportunity to baseline, monitor and monetise our soil carbon,” says Joe. “If we can get a baseline of where our soil carbon is and then in a few years' time, we can take it to market as carbon credits, then that's fantastic. “Fundamentally, we wouldn’t be able to do that without working with Regenerate Outcomes. There’s just not enough hours in the day.” Read more about Joe and Rachel by going to our Linkin.bio or get in touch to find out how you can join our growing number of member farms.

"The real driver for founding Agricarbon was to unlock as much value as possible from soil carbon for farmers to fund their transition to regenerative farming,” says Agricarbon co-founder Annie Leeson. "It's absolutely vital for the carbon farming market that robust evidence validates that the soil carbon benefits are real and accurately quantifies how much carbon dioxide farmers are removing from the atmosphere.” As well as providing mentoring from leading regenerative farmers, Regenerate Outcomes also baselines and monitors soil carbon to generate high integrity carbon credits which can be sold to generate additional revenue. We are proud to work with Agricarbon to baseline, monitor and verify soil carbon, ensuring these credits are of the highest value possible to generate the best returns for our farmers. Meet George: George farms beef and arable with his family in Wiltshire. "We started off down the regenerative path to cut costs, but it's now just as much about the resilience of the environment and business resilience as well. Having a resilient business is also the key to having a better quality of life because it gives you the time to do the things which make life better.” "The reason I’ve joined Regenerate Outcomes rather than any other projects is really because of the training and the baselining in terms of soil and carbon. That's the absolute winner.” Read more about why George has joined Regenerative Outcomes. Follow Link in bio

Farms do more than grow food. Local farms serve as a tangible connection to nature and the cycles of life, a model for small businesses, and a way to foster relationships in the community. Many farms go even further, and @eze_farms in Columbia, South Carolina is a perfect example. @WIS10 featured a profile on the unique youth apprenticeship services provided by EZE Farms. In addition to growing produce, the farm offers a Boy Scout-style youth mentorship program based on their farm, combined with off-site extracurriculars like basketball. The program is designed to provide positive reinforcement for young people in the community, using farming as the foundation for lessons. This article does a terrific job of highlighting the many ways in which local farms can change lives beyond agriculture. 📸 provided by EZE Farms #CarolinaFarmers #YouthMinistry #YouthMentorship #FarmingMentorship #MidlandsSC #FarmSkills #CommunityBuilding
