An accomplishment worth celebrating. On Saturday we had a little soirée to recognize @col.ourmein.kindness on completing the @houseofpop apprenticeship program. Victoria over the last year has shown dedication and professionalism throughout her training and we could not be more proud, Pop was transformed into an art gallery for the evening to showcase the editorial photography collection put together by Victoria as her graduation assignment. We also had on hand local artists @ruben_6110 @grandville92 @assortedfarts @jasonvroberts @sour.puss33 @liverinajar @kelsea.rothaus @rae.plays and @bruno.hockaloogie who’s art was available for viewing and purchase. Experimented with a fire & water split dye, this time around 🔥💧 . Over the past month, I’ve found myself embracing the flow of Spring as best as I can. One side of me loves the warmth and reinvigorating effect of the sun, and the other side loves the moody and soothing effect of rainfall and water. As a result, I wondered if it might be possible to achieve something similar with my hair colors. However, the green that was previously in my hair presented a challenge. For some hair textures, going from a cool green, to warm copper, in one appointment, isn’t possible. And since I had never tried it before, Laura (my colorist) and I tested different mixes of orange, peach, and finally, burgundy, on strips of my hair, to achieve a copper that provided a warm glow, without moving too far towards fluorescence. And since green is typically made up of blue and yellow, the blue side was fairly straightforward. At some point during the process, Laura said the word “chemistry”. And she was right lol. This unique shade of copper took around 4 hours to achieve. . The first photo here is directly after my appointment, and the second and last photos are about 2 weeks later, or 4 washes. The purple + blue/green chop had a fun run 💜💙💚 . It’s a bittersweet, yet exciting, morning, as I head back to the salon to hopefully change-up my hair again. I struggle sometimes to decide whether to keep my current hair-color going, or if I want to try something new, especially as a creative that tends to get drawn to several different concepts and inspiration, leading up to appointments. Some days, I sit in the salon chair, and that moment forces me to pick something. Other days, I’ve figured it out, more than not. This time, my mind kept circling around one idea, which I hope will work fairly well. But as always, I’ll present it with a healthy understanding that what I want may or may not be entirely possible. Factors like hair health, cancelling-out colors, time, etc. come into play at every appointment. Electric Aurora Vibes 😈❄️👽 . Going from magenta/orange mids and ends to an icy, alien, blue/green was one of the best choices I’ve made for my hair lately. I knew going blue or green would make my eyes light up. But I’m excited to have such a beautiful balance between the two. As a multi-creative, I love collaborating with other artists with a passion for their craft. People that dive into their joy with all of their heart and being. @running.with_scissors is definitely one of those people, and I’m always excited to sit in her chair ❤️🔥 And as a disabled woman, my hair has become so much more to me. I don’t know how long this color journey will last, or if I’ll ever go back to my natural brown. But as someone who has undergone several hair changes over past years, due to mandatory blood-thinners, coloring my hair is a slap in the face to that, honestly. Especially when it’s done by an expert vivids colorist who knows what she’s doing and how to keep it healthy ❤️ And it brings me immense happiness just to SEE the colors and share it with others in the open world. Hair, to me, is a passionate, versatile and vulnerable means of connection and confidence, with a language all its own. It speaks to who you are and how you feel inside, and brings it to the surface. I’m so thankful to have had the privilege of having this much fun with my hair. It’s something I’ll always remember and cherish. ➿Playing w/ Natural Texture 〰️ This haircut was a great example of how we can work within your own natural hair texture to create a style that is uniquely -YOU-! Knowing that air-drying is her preferred method of styling, we first did a dry cut to establish the new shape, then went back wet after the shampoo with the razor and removed a little more weight in select areas. Using the right products we initially styled @emm.appel to bring out the maximum curl without frizz, and then I showed her how to loosen her look by pulling some of the curl out, resulting in tumbled waves.
