PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS. 30.8.18 It was the annual birthday celebration of friend and theatre personality Ganesh Seth. Every year it is celebrated with a special mutton korma ordered from a restaurant in Ballimaran. It is always fun to be there and catch up with whole lot of friends, many of them Modernites and Stephanians. I wore @mallikadua’s cotton sari, bought online from Ajio.com ,predominantly peachish orange with yellow stripes. Half of the width of the sari is plain then the stripes begin increasing in width towards the region of the fall.It has a Ganga Jamuna border, the upper one a peridot green and the lower bright fuschia. There is a thin strip of zari between the border and the body. The pallu has multiple peridot green and peachish orange thin stripes sandwiched between strips of zari. The blouse I paired it with belongs to a bleeding Madras check sari,I posted recently, gifted to Mallika by @ecoloom.co.The blouse too has stripes, in fuschia and dull black with the sleeves having a broad strip of fuschia, a narrow strip of zari and a white cum black ikat strip.I attached an orange border all around the neck and back as the ecoloom sari has orange in it. The jewellery consists of a string made artificial oval peridot coloured beads along with chunky white pearls and separated on either side by beads with glass kundan and meenakari. The danglers match the necklace. The kada is a plastic one in the same green with a flat golden bangle embedded within with kalash and swastika crafted on it. The ring too has glass kundan. The bindi is inspired by the stripes on the sari & the blouse and is handcrafted using fuschia poster colour with a green dot below using water colours. The potli is a peridot green Jamdani one with woven floral motifs with zari in the centre,a gift from @neeroshaindia . It has golden drawstrings and a handle made of chunky golden beads. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #InstagramChinnaDuaPosts #ChinnaDuaSarees #ChinnaDua #Sari #Sarees #ILoveSarees #HandloomSari #ILoveHandloomSaris #CottonSari #Bindis #ILoveBindi #HandcraftedBindi #DoctorInASari #BindiArt #OOTD #SOTD #ILovePotlis #JamdaniPotlis #LOTD #GiftsOfLove

PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS. 27.8.18 Recently we met our friends @kiit.nvk Neelima and Harsh Kamrah at IIC over tea alongwith their friend’s son, who was visiting from America. Being a great fan of Vinod,he wanted to meet him. We had a lovely afternoon and my Neelima beautiful inside out brought a sari as a gift for me and a small potted plant for my husband. We were really touched. Once I got into the car, I opened the gift and I just loved the fuschia cotton sari which is what I’m wearing in these pics. This lovely mul saree with bagru print which I thought was from Rajasthan or MP happened to be from Kolkata, designed by Neelima’s friend Rashmi Bhattacharya who works with weavers and bring life into the fabrics through her creativity. This was designed keeping in mind how important agriculture is to our country-a symbol of life and prosperity. There are block printed floral motifs with leaves all over on the body of the sari. The borders consist of creepers and flowers. The pallu too has floral motifs, plants and interestingly a strip of tigers. I didn’t pair it with it’s own blouse and wore an Indigo Chanderi blouse with grey gichcha border and block printed motifs on the sleeves, belonging to my indigo Chanderi sari. When Vinod saw me in this sari “ Ye badi khoobsoorat sari hai. Ye kahaan se aayi?” I wore my oxidized silver with lapis lazuli jewellery. My bindi is inspired by the floral motifs on the body of the sari and is handcrafted using fuschia poster colour and navy blue water colour. The mushroo navy blue potli with woven horizontal stripes on the lower half, in white, green and fuschia is a gift from a friend & batchmate Veena Aggarwal. It has blue fabric drawstrings ending in triangular fabric tassels in blue, fuschia and green. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ChinnaDuaPosts #ChinnaDua #ChinnaDuaSarees #Sari #Sarees #ILoveSarees #HandloomSari #ILoveHandloomSaris #CottonMulSari #Bindis #ILoveBindi #HandcraftedBindi #DoctorInASari #BindiArt #OOTD #SOTD #LOTD #ILovePotlis #PotliLove #GiftOfLove #OxidisedSilverJewellery #LapisLazuliJewellery

PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS. 17.8.18 The mul sari I wore is a very soft black one. @ecoloom.co had gifted 2 sarees to @mallikadua last year. One of them she made me wear to her GQ award ceremony and posted my pics which ecoloom liked and later gifted me this one. The sari has a narrower upper border, silver one sandwiched between 2 black strips. The lower one is very wide and has multiple stripes of grey, white and black followed by a black strip sandwiched between 2 silver ones. The pallu has multiple stripes in silver, grey, white and black. I didn’t pair it with it’s own blouse. I sported a more contemporary look in a white with black polka dot georgette blouse. I wore a necklace gifted by our niece @shivaniduasingh.It has a pendant with a Ganesha in an oxidised silver finish. The danglers, Kada and the ring are pure oxidised silver with roses while the other ring without roses too is an oxidised silver one. The bindi is inspired by the stripes on the sari and is handcrafted into parallel black and white lines using water colours with a white dot below. The potli is replaced by a clutch made of black fabric with Kantha embroidery in white and I received it as a gift when I bought few sarees at an exhibition held in CR Park, many years ago. Today’s pics feature a chair from Mallika’s room, placed in my balcony to show the beautiful antique chair pad gifted recently by Instagram follower @ikihomeindia . Each piece is unique made out of recycled sari and brocade patchwork. Post work I braved the traffic regulations to reach the lovely exhibition and sale of “The handmade collective” by @zibabyhand at Aga Khan Hall. I bought few lovely things. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #Sari #Sarees #ILoveSarees #HandloomSari #ILoveHandloomSaris #CottonMulSari #Bindis #ILoveBindi #HandcraftedBindi #DoctorInASari #BindiArt #OOTD #SOTD #ILoveClutches #ClutchWithKanthaEmbroidery #InstagramChinnaDuaPosts #ChinnaDuaSarees #ChinnaDua #LOTD #GiftOfLove #ILoveSilverJewellery #PolkaDotBlouse #BrocadeChairPad #AntiqueSariChairPad #HomeDecor

7.7.18 Hi friends. It is Saturday, a working day for me and holiday for loads of you lucky ones out there. So I decided it is a perfect day for quiz time or question of the day or QOTD. The question is that the bindi I handcrafted is inspired by the rudraksh motif on my OOTD. It is obvious that one of the colours of the sari is black. You have to guess the base colour. So start guessing but please ONLY one colour . We are just having fun. It is not a competition. So just write the colour that 1st comes to your mind. Since I get a whole lot of responses I won’t be able to respond individually. So please do look out for the answers this evening. Have a super weekend. I will connect later today with the full post. #QOTD #QuestionOfTheDay #QuizTime #instagramchinnaduaposts #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees

PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS. 10.6.18 It was an unusual Sunday morning when I had to wear a sari at home as a young friend cum neighbor, who is working with a famous company that is going to launch it’s sarees, wanted a video interview with me asking questions related to sarees. It was meant to be for inhouse use and she wanted me to be dressed in a sari. So I wore an off white Dhakai Jamdani with dark green woven motifs and a very thin almost invisible line of zari. The sari was picked up from Bangla Deshi Saree vendors who go selling from door to door. The palla is stunning with a variety of woven motifs, florals, waves, chevron, toran look alike, paisleys , stripes etc. The body is full of floral motifs and oval shaped motifs. It has no border but has a green selvedge. I paired it with a a mushroo fabric olive green with block printed black and rust floral motifs all over. I wore a junk necklace made of multiple rows of coral coloured tiny beads, probably 2 decades plus old from Kathmandu. I twist it and wear it. I wore pure silver jewellery with real corals danglers, ring and dragon headed kada. My potli is an olive green quilted silk from Cottage emporium which has an orangish rust strip near the base with Kutch hand embroidery with tiny mirrors using olive green and maroon thread, green fabric drawstrings and orange silk thread tassels. The bindi is handcrafted using green water colour inspired by a pattern on the pallu and I have posted a pic of the bindi with the pattern. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ILoveSarees #ChinnaDuaSarees #HandloomSari #ILoveHandloomSarees #TaantSari #DhaksiJamdanjSari #SareesFromBangkaDesh #CottonSarees #Sarees #Sari #Bindis #ILoveBindis #HandcraftedBindi #BindiArt #OOTD #SOTD #LOTD #DoctorInASari #ILovePotlis #PotliWithHandEmbroidery #PotliFromCottageEmporium #ILoveSilverJewellery #SilverWithCoralJewellery #MushrooFabricBlouse #BorderlessSari

PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS. 13.4.18 The sari I wore to work is a last year’s acquisition from online @pink_paisely on IG which is the page of Bashuli Bhattacharjee who is a very sweet young friend now.It is a very soft mul cotton sari which drapes very well and is perfect for Delhi’s summer. It has beautiful block printed floral motifs in orange, turquoise and mehndi green. The pallu has geometric chevron look alike pattern in green and teal. The borders have white floral motifs outlined by turquoise with mehndi green leaves. The selvedge is a beautiful turquoise. It came with a white blouse with the same border and small teal polka dots all over. However, I decided to pair it with a white based handloom blouse wiith bright orange floral motifs resembling the ones on the sari, with teal stems. The fabric was sourced from #Joyce Handlooms, 49 Shankar Market. I wore a necklace with chunky orange beads with a rough finish. The danglers are very pretty with black and orange stones. The kada on my wrist is an orange ceramic one. My bindi is handcrafted using water soluble pencil into a teal flower with orange stem and green leaves, inspired by the motifs on the sari. The potli from the annual sale held by Palna, the orphanage,is an off white silk with a subtle print on which are block printed flowers in teal, turquoise & brown with blue silk cords as drawstrings. To work, I carried a kantha bag, bought from @riddhipankaj , which has the colours of the sari. The last time I wore this sari & posted the pics, the pic was also featured in an online article by Nehmat Kaur. This was an article she was doing for The Wire in response to the recent NYT article that claimed the Modi government is pushing Hindu identity through popularising saris. She wanted to know my take on saris and nationalism which was published in the article. I have posted a screenshot of it. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #SareesAndNationalism #SareesAndHinduIdentity #Sari #Sarees #ILoveSarees #HandloomSari #ILoveHandloomSaris #CottonMulSari #Bindis #ILoveBindi #HandcraftedBindi #DoctorInASari #BindiArt #OOTD #SOTD #ILovePotlis #PotliLove

PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS. 5.2.18 Vinod was invited to deliver a talk “Free speech is the essence of New India” at the District conference of Rotarians yesterday (4.2.18)afternoon.The speech was brilliant and we were requested to sing a duet thereafter. For those who haven’t read my morning post, this is a decade plus old satin silk, silver grey in colour with a woven border and pallu with intricate work using silver thread from the erstwhile #OrisaWeaversSocietyShop. The body of the sari was plain.Over the years, with me aging, the sari too had aged although I had worn it minimally and it appeared dull.Morover,I took the words of wisdom imparted by an octogenarian Sikh gentleman, years ago, rather seriously. He sported vibrant coloured turbans although he was 80 plus. His take on that was “When you are in your youth, you glow and don’t need colour to look vibrant but as you age,you must wear bright vibrant colours to brighten your mood and looks”. Recently I took it out and got it block printed through my bestie Mini. She shut her block printing outfit but does it on request and I love her designing. She has this young boy, polio afflicted in one leg who executes the job rather neatly. I love the zigzag at the end of the pallu which inspired my bindi which as guessed by most of the people who responded to my morning post, is indeed a zig zag, handcrafted using black liquid bindi. I paired it with a black, grey, silver blouse made by mixing and matching the fabric of the blouses that came with 2 sarees. My necklace is made up of strings of black pearls from #MangatRaiHyderabad and has a matching bracelet. The tops were just a simple solitary pearl and seemed not right for the OOTD.Hence I wore these gorgeous junk danglers. The potli is replaced by a very old grey silk handbag with hand embroidery in black, white and mauve thread and black sequins and has grey handles. I am delighted to have had this new sari created which I am so in love with. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ChinnaDuaSarees #Ootd #Sotd #Sari #Sarees #Fortheloveofsari #SatinSilkSari #HandloomSari #ILoveHandloom #ForTheLoveOfHandloom #SilverGreySari #BlockPrintedSari #BindiLove #HandcraftedBindi

5.2.18 This is the pic of the pallu of the sari I wore yesterday i.e 4.2.18.This is a decade plus old satin silk, silver grey in colour. It has a woven border and pallu with intricate work using silver thread. The body of the sari was plain.Yes,was because it no longer is.Over the years, with me aging, the sari too has aged though I have worn it minimally.Morover,I took the words of wisdom imparted by an octogenarian Sikh gentleman, years ago, rather seriously. This gentleman, our friend’s father had gone for his evening walk. Our friend told us “My father will love to meet you.He should be back soon and I better warn you that he will be in a red turban although he is 80 plus”.Uncle arrived and we loved what his take on his turban was..”When you are in your youth, you glow and don’t need colour to look vibrant but as you age,you must wear bright vibrant colours to brighten your mood and looks”. They were awesome words of wisdom and I follow them.Hence for the past 5 plus years this sari kept lying in the dark corner of the cupboard.Recently I took it out and got it block printed through my bestie Mini. She used to run a block printing outfit but gave it up sometime ago. However, she does it on request and I love her designing. She has this young boy, polio afflicted in one leg who executes the job rather neatly. I loved this zigzag at the end of the pallu. The body of the sari is beautifully block printed but for that you have to wait till the evening for my full post on pairing, accessories, bindi etc.BTW,any guesses on the design of my handcrafted bindi??? #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ChinnaDuaSarees #Ootd #Sotd #Sari #Sarees #Fortheloveofsari #SatinSilkSari #HandloomSari #ILoveHandloom #ForTheLoveOfHandloom #SilverGreySari #BlockPrintedSari

PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL 1.2.18 Who says you can’t make new friends post 50? Apart from my job, frequent socialising in media and medico circle, thanks to the social media,I have made soooo many new friends.Recently Arathi Nair, @sareenotsorry_in_dubai ,my instagram cum FB friend visited Delhi from Dubai for a wedding and sent me a message ,weeks in advance, expressing a desire to meet me.What a charming lady!! Beautiful inside out and bindaas. We got along like a house on fire and chatted like we had known each other eternally. She looked so gorgeous in her Kantha.I asked her to come to my clinic and thereafter we headed to Karim at Islamic centre for awesome lunch. I wore my 2 decade old sari from Odisha, bought from the erstwhile Odisha weavers society shop in South Extension part 2. It is an off white light weight silk with a narrow woven wine coloured border. Pallu is gorgeous with woven motifs made of paisleys in wine colour and a vibrant green, strips of the border and few stripes in wine colour. I paired it with a different blouse- a handloom green , the same colour as the motifs on the palla, which has woven parallel V shaped pattern in various colours, resembling phulkari. My bindi was inspired by it and handcrafted into parallel V using liquid maroon bindi with green dot below and line at the top. I accessorised with oxidised silver & garnet jewellery. My potli is a silk with checks in green, yelllow and black, with a strip of golden zari and drawstrings made of yellow silk cords ending in yellow tassels. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ChinnaDuaSarees #Ootd #Sotd #Sari #Sarees #Fortheloveofsari #OdishaSilkSari #HandloomSari #ILoveHandloom #ForTheLoveOfHandloom #DoctorInASari #PotliLove #BindiLove #HandcraftedBindi #OxidisedSilverJewellery #PotliFromPalna

3.2.18 PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS. Hi friends.Sorry for the delay in posting the answer to my QOTD. Take a look at the pics. Most of you got one of the colours of the pair right which is green but no one guessed the other colour which is maroon!! The lunch get together of the FB ladies group was enjoyable and I didn’t do the ramp walk as I was asked to be one of the judges!! Salt & pepper hair blues!!! The theme was basant and so everyone had some yellow element.Maang teeka ring & bracelet with yellow flowers were worn by all. A favourite butter soft flowy crepe sari from CTC plaza years ago when it was located near Ashram.A friend from Kenya visited Delhi to shop for a family wedding. Those days she was living in a large joint family and had to buy suits and sarees for all.So we went on a Sunday and sat there from 11AM till it shut down. They had organised chaat for the customers so that no one would have to leave the premises for a bite. What business tactics!! That day I found 2 lovely crepe sarees, one of which was this sari. It is a lovely mango yellow with printed green leaf motifs all over, white polka dots and a border of zig zag maroon stripes. The pallu has 2 broad strips of vertical maroon zigzag stripes, sandwiched between narrow strips of white polka dots against a blue background. The part between these 2 broad strips has green floral motifs which remind me of UFOs!!!The pallu ends in green polkas outlined by white circle. The blouse is the same as the border and inspired me to handcraft my bindi into a zigzag using maroon liquid bindi with yellow dots below. My potli is a very old quilted maroon silk from cottage emporium with a strip of Kutch hand embroidery with tiny mirrors, along the lower border. My jewellery is all junk.Necklace belongs to my daughter and has white artificial pearls with a lovely yellow pendant with rose on it.My danglers have yellow beads.I wore a thick yellow kada on my wrist. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ChinnaDuaSarees #Ootd #Sotd #Sari #Sarees #Fortheloveofsari #CrepeSari #DoctorInASari #HandEmbroidereryInMyPotli #PotliLove #PotliFromCottageEmporium #ILoveJunkJewellery #YellowWithMaroonBorderSari

PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS 26.1.18 Happy republic day to all. Finally I am at the Jaipur Literature festival. I have heard so much about it all these years .Our daughter @mallikadua had a session there last year, but we couldn’t attend it. This year Vinod is a part of 5 sessions and this morning he moderated the session on Manto with Nandita Das and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. Many told us that they have been regulars for the past 10 years but have never witnessed such a huge crowd at any session. Today’s session was awesome. So happy to be here. We reached Jaipur last evening and were invited to the 1st dinner of JLF.I wore my Bhagalpuri in black and beige with a red border and a black & maroon pallu.I always desired a Bhagalpuri and whenever I would see anyone in Bhagalpuri, I would tell myself that I have to buy one. Thanks to dear friend Kiran Kapoor, who told me she would help me get good ones from Rita Kapur Chishti who has done extensive research on sarees, written articles and books and now runs an outfit called Taan Baan. Says she in her website “Taanbaan is a label we initiated in 2011 and has a Delhi-based design team that travels to the production areas once or twice a year to create a range of handspun-handwoven textiles in organic desi cotton or in combination with low twist silks: tussar; eri or muga” I have this and another gorgeous Bhagalpuri. Instead if its own blouse,I paired it with a Kalamkari blouse belonging to another sari. I wore oxidized silver rings and bracelet. My neckpiece is from @janpathonline and jhumkas from @oasisofmoda. I carried a maroon jute clutch with a lovely round piece in the centre of the flap, handworked using maroon and golden tiny beads. The bindi is a plain maroon stick on. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ChinnaDuaSarees #Ootd #Sotd #Sari #Sarees #Fortheloveofsari #BhagalpuriSari #BlackAndRedSari #HandloomSari #ILoveHandloom #ForTheLoveOfHandloom #DoctorInASari #HandEmbroidereryInMyClutch #JuteClutch #KalamkariBlouse #ILoveSilverJewellery

PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS 25.1.18 A quarter century old lovely satin silk in pista green with a border and gorgeous pallu woven in black and honey colour, is what I wore to a dinner on 21.1.18 to celebrate a friend’s recent promotion.I was told by the dealer that it is a sari from Benaras. It is a dhoop chhaon or double tone sari in pista green and beige tones. It is a very easy flowing drape. It was nice to go out after a relaxed Sunday basking in the glorious sun, just a day before Basant Panchami. Loads of friends at the party made it a fun evening. For those who keep asking me to post a pic of my bestie Renu Gulati, who I mention often in my posts, there is a pic of mine with her.She has gifted me a large number of sarees and gorgeous ones at that. This saree was picked up by me, from the erstwhile #OrissaWeaversSocietyshop in South extension part 2. I chose not to pair it with its own blouse which is the same colour as the body of the sari and with the same border. I wore a black cotton Handloom Mangalgiri with a typical border with a hint of green. The pallu has paisleys too and hence the bindi is handcrafted into a paisley using black liquid bindi. I wore my mangalsutra with black and gold beads, with matching jhumkas and a bracelet. My potli is a gift of love from an instagram follower turned dear long distance friend @deepikasyal , who I am desperately waiting to meet someday soon. The potli is from her hometown Bhopal - a black based potli with hand embroidery using tiny black and larger golden beads, large mirrors outlined by thread in green and purple colour using chain stitch. The drawstrings are black ending in black fabric tassels. Thanks dear Deepika for the lovely potli. The shawl is a pista green one from Kashmir with a lovely delicate jaal of hand embroidery . #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ChinnaDuaSarees #Ootd #Sotd #Sari #Sarees #Fortheloveofsari #GiftsOfLove #SatinSilkSari #PistagreenSari #HandloomSari #ILoveHandloom #ForTheLoveOfHandloom #Bindilove #HandcraftedBindi #DoctorInASari #HandEmbroideredPotli #MirrorWorkPotli #FriendsWhoHaveNeverMet #MangalgiriCottonBlouse

PLEASE SWIPE TO SEE ALL THE PICS 20.1.18 This is another one of my favourite sarees, gifted by Vinod. He had bought it from a shop in Chennai though it looks nowhere close to being a sari from the South. However, just like Nalli Silk in Delhi stocks sarees from all over India, likewise stores in Chennai too must be stocking sarees from elsewhere . Its a gorgeous aubrergine silk with a woven motifs all over in a shade brighter than that of the body of the sari. The pallu is a teal with a row of embroidered floral motifs in off white, turquoise and aubergine which extends to the end of the pallu which has a scalloped edge. The pallu too has embroidery in the same colours with few scattered floral motifs like that on the border and beautiful large motifs consisting of paisleys. The blouse is a teal with the same embroidery as the border at the end of the sleeves abd few scattered floral motifs too like that on the pallu. I wore pearl string with large golden beads which have turquoise stones in the centre with matching danglers, gifted by BIL’s samdhan Dimpi who happens to be a dear friend. The bracelet and ring too have turquoise stones. My bindi is handcrafted into a larger round with smaller teal dots below, using Aubergine coloured Faber Castell water colour pencils. My very old potli from #CottageEmporium is a plain teal silk with golden drawstrings ending in teal silk thread tassels. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #Ootd #Sotd #Sari #Sarees #Fortheloveofsari #GiftsOfLove #SilkSari #IloveSilk #AubergineWithTealBorderSari #CottageEmporiumPotlis #PotliLove #Bindilove #HandcraftedBindi #BindiUsingWaterColourPencil #TurquoiseJewellery #HandEmbroideredSari #DoctorInASari

PLEASE SWIPE TO SEE ALL THE PICS 20.1.18 This gorgeous indigo Patli Pallu with Kantha and block printed silk sari Is a huge favourite of mine. I wore it to work on 17.1.18 as post work I had to attend a lunch with my bestie and her friends. Thoroughly enjoyed the food at the renovated “ The Deck” at India Habitat Centre. The sari is from Kolkata bought at an exhibition, held few years ago at someone's home in CR Park.Being a patli pallu, pleats and pallu are an off white with block print in black and rust while the rest of the sari is different in indigo with kantha embroidery in white.Unlike these days, those days the patli pallu was an unusual concept. The sari didn’t come with a blouse n so I bought a plain off white silk and attached it to the beginning part of the sari after removing an optimum printed postion for a sleeveless blouse.I didn’t pair it with that this time. Instead I wore a rust block printed blouse , belonging to another sari and has zig zag print on the body and a border with triangles on the sleeves, matching rather well with the sari as the sari too has triangles on the pallu & zig zag embroidery on the border.I teamed it with a beautiful oxidised silver pendant with a pearl and lapez beads string, lapez ring, danglers and bracelet. My bindi was handcrafted with blue liquid bindi into a design to match the Kantha embroidery on the body of the sari, which was the source of inspiration. My bag which replaced my potli was a very ethnic one .. blue tussar silk with Madhubani painting on the flap from #FabIndia. The traditional form of Kantha embroidery was done on soft dhotis and saris. The thread for this craft was drawn out of the borders of the used cloth.Depending on the use of the finished product they are known as Lepkantha, Sujni Kantha etc.The entire cloth is covered with running stitches and usually has beautiful folk motifs, floral motifs, animal and birds figures and geometrical shape. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #Ootd #Sotd #Sari #Sarees #Fortheloveofsari #SilkSari #IloveSilk #BengalSilkSari #IndigoSilkSari #KanthaEmbroiderySari #BlockPrintedSari #FabIndiaHandBags #PotliLove #Bindilove #HandcraftedBindi

PLEASE SWIPE TO SEE ALL THE PICS. 19.1.18 A rust coloured Bengal silk with beautiful woven floral motifs in beige all over is what I wore to work on 16.1.18. Sadly part of it along the region of the fall, got entangled in the wheel of my office chair and got ripped off.Even sadder was that was in the part of the sari that is visible, although on the lowermost portion. Some people like me never seem to learn from past mistakes. This has happened to me earlier too both with a sari and a long skirt.Hopefully I will be more careful from now onwards.Hope you all will learn from my mistake. I always wanted a borderless saree because such a saree looks different from the routine ones with typical border and pallu. Hence I got attracted to this sari years ago at an erstwhile #OrissaWeaversSociety store in South Extension Part 2.It has a gorgeous palla with beautiful motifs in beige, some floral, some in the form of paisleys, some round, few square/ diamond shaped. The pallu is separated from the body by a strip with woven creepers which have a pop of green. Those were the days when most sarees didn’t have a blouse and getting silk dyed to get a blouse made wasn’t too common. So I got a rubia blouse which is a sub optimal match.Every year when I wear it,I remind myself to get a silk blouse made but then I forget. However, now with eclectic options of pairing, I will wear it next year with some other blouse. I handcrafted my bindi into a larger round with a small dot and 2 lines below using water soluble Faber Castell colour pencils. My rust coloured silk potli with embroidery using golden thread, golden drawstrings ending in gold tissue triangular fabric tassles is an old one from #CottageEmporium. My jewellery from Kathmandu has the typical pendant in a necklace with rust beads.Ear rings too have matching gold beads along with rust coloured beadsThe kada has geru polish ( a terracotta powder dye used to paint flower pots) and looks rustish. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #Ootd #Sotd #Sari #Sarees #Fortheloveofsari #SilkSari #IloveSilk #BengalSilkSari #RustColouredSari #BorderlessSari #PotliLove #Bindilove #HandcraftedBindi

PLEASE SWIPE TO SEE ALL THE PICS. 18.1.18 We were invited to a friend cum neighbor’s son’s wedding reception on 14.1.18 I wore a gorgeous turquoise blue silk sari which has a royal blue with woven zari border and a beautiful palla with woven zari motifs. I don’t know if this sari is from the South of India or Odisha or elsewhere because it is a gift and yes once again from dear friend Renu Gulati. The body of the sari has tiny woven zari motifs. I paired it with its own matching blouse. The sari has a temple border and that is what inspired me to handcraft my bindi into a similar pattern using Faber Castell water soluble Royal blue colour pencil. I think I did a fairly neat job. Sorry if I sound boastful. Its just that I am not an artist and am terrible with drawing on paper. Hence I feel happy when I am satisfied with my creation and like to share it with my friends. I wore matching Meenakari jewellery, the pendant & danglers having the same combination as the sari. The ring too has stones in lapez and turquoise. The bracelet is made of lapez beads. The potli is a bright turquoise with a zari border at the base and light turquoise silk drawstrings with wooden birds attached at the end in the form of tassels. This potli came with almonds in it accompanying the wedding card of a dear friend’s daughter. She had got the potlis made with the idea that it would serve a dual purpose. I just loved it. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #Ootd #Sotd #Sari #Sarees #Fortheloveofsari #SilkSari #IloveSilk #TurquoiseWithRoyalBlueBorder #PotliLove #Bindilove #HandcraftedBindi #TempleBorderSari #GiftsOfLove

PLEASE SWIPE TO SEE ALL THE PICS. 12.1.18 To be very honest, I am not particularly fond of this sari which I was forced to buy for the sake of good neighbourly relation when we had moved into our present residence. This is more than 2 decades old and I had picked it up at an exhibition held in the basement of our next door neighbour. Thanks to that narrow strip of “ antique “ border, as told to me by my neighbour, it was an expensive sari. By now many of you know that I don’t like to waste anything. After all it is hard earned money and if I use what I have bought, to a justifiable extent, then I feel satisfied. This is a light brown printed heavy crepe sari with a border made of a strip of block printed maroon floral motifs , followed by a strip of dull gold tissue, ending in a maroon & dull gold strip taken from an antique sari. The pallu has the same pattern as the border but with wider strips. It came with its own blouse which was part of the running length but since it is winter , it cannot be seen and is hidden by the maroon pullover. I paired it with my garnet set. My potli is replaced by a small handbag from #Nallisilks, made of marooon and gold brocade with a handle made of golden beads. The bindi is handcrafted using maroon liquid into 4 large dots with a tiny one in the centre. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #Ootd #Sotd #Sari #Sarees #Fortheloveofsari #CrepeSari #IloveCrepes #CrepeWithBlockPrintedBorder #PotliLove #Bindilove #HandcraftedBindi #NalliSilkHandbag #SariWithAntiqueBorder #NalliSilk

PLEASE SWIPE TO SEE ALL THE PICTURES. DONT MISS THE BOOMERANG IN STORIES!! 13.1.18 I received a message from a friend from the FB sari group #TheSareeStory asking if I would be interested in a picnic at Lodhi garden.I said yes.It was going to be a potluck lunch. However, a meeting cropped up and I had to opt out of the picnic. The whatsapp messages in the group were do touching and made me feel so special because so many of the ladies were very disappointed with the news.Later the meeting was rescheduled and I was super thrilled.I called up the organiser and in the midst of the call, the mischievous streak in me took over and I told her not to reveal it to the group but to tell them I was feeling bad and would send some food anyway. I made the vada paav, Masala dry fruit gud and chocolate fudge, the previous night and sent it through the driver at 12 noon.I reached there at 2 and loved the reaction of all. We had loads of fun, great food, awesome company and a day made to order.I was not allowed to leave without singing. So I sang a couple of songs before we wound up the party. It is amazing how social media has connected us to lovely people. Of course there are the ills of social media too.Anyway that was a lovely group I connected with. I wore a black and orange Assam silk with floral motifs all over,on the border and the stunning pallu. I wore oxidized silver jewellery. The blouse was an orange with black border with orange motifs, slightly visible in the pics of the picnic as it was hot and I had to take off the black pullover. The potli was an orange phulkari, just right for the day as it was Lohri. My bindi was handcrafted using black liquid bindi and was inspired by the floral motifs on the sari. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #Ootd #Sotd #Sari #Sarees #Fortheloveofsari #HandloomSari #Ilovehandlooms #SilkSari #PotliLove #Bindilove #HandcraftedBindi #PhulkariPotli #BlackAndOrangeSari #AssamSilkSari #TheSareeStory

PLEASE SWIPE TO SEE ALL THE PICTURES 12.1.18 My birthday saree posts became a priority since they were related to a dated event. Thanks to that one of my beautiful favourite sarees in the shades of peacock feathers, i wore to work on 8.1.18,had to take a back seat. This too was gifted by my bestie Renu Gulati. It is a lovely light silk with a gorgeous palla with paisleys woven in white and a beautiful woven white border. I paired it with a white pullover. No marks for guessing the design of the bindi- a paisley handcrafted using green face paint. My jewellery is junk with the pendant ,bracelet displaying a peacock feather and were a phenomenal match. The danglers belong to another set and are made of crystal beads in colours similar to the ones in the sari. The potli is a polycotton one in the same colours as the sari and has white stripes. It was made from a fabric left over after making a blouse. It has a woven white border at the top with drawstrings ending in tassels made of the same fabric as that of the potli. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #GiftOfLove #Ootd #Sotd #Sari #Sarees #Fortheloveofsari #HandloomSari #Ilovehandlooms #SilkSari #PotliLove #Bindilove #HandcraftedBindi

PLEASE SWIPE TO SEE ALL THE PICTURES. 11.1.18 Thank you all dear friends once again for the lovely birthday wishes full of warmth. This was really an awesome overwhelming birthday. Thanks to Mallika’s post , my inbox was full of beautiful, touching wishes. God bless you all always. This post is about the birthday celebration last evening. I share my birthday with a very dear friend and the last few years we have been cutting the cake together. Yesterday her 11 month grandson with absolutely edible cheeks added to the fun. The best part was that he was so comfortable with me and got pics clicked. The sari I wore was also gifted by my bestie Renu Gulati who gifted the sari I wore yesterday morning. It is a lovely block printed tussar with khari work in golden colour.I didn’t wear the matching blouse that came with it but paired it with one of my favourite blouses.. a black based with turquoise and gold motifs. The shape of the motif inspired my bindi handcrafted using black liquid. I accessorised with a black onyx necklace with round coin shaped tops and a chunky black kada. My potli from #Nallisilk is a black with turquoise & gold machine embroidered paisleys. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #BirthdaySaree #Ootd #Sotd #Sari #Sarees #Fortheloveofsari #HandloomSari #Ilovehandlooms #TempleBorderSari #TussarSilkSari #PotliLove #Bindilove #HandcraftedBindi #BlockprintedSari #SariWithKhariWork

PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS. 10.1.18 Thanks a ton all you dear friends who sent me their birthday wishes via Instagram, FB, SMS, Call, messenger etc. This year there was a phenomenal increase in the number of people who wished me thanks to Instagram. I was delighted to wake up to a beautiful, bright, sunny, not so cold ,morning, sans fog.It was lovely to try and get ready to work amidst incessant calls.Strangely I managed to reach the clinic on time.I was given a beautiful huge card by my colleagues. My very dear senior colleague Vaneeta, gifted me a beautiful silk saree and ordered samosas & Gulab Jamun to celebrate my birthday. I wore a bright parrot green cotton silk sari, a gift of love from bestie Renu Gulati. She is a professor at a prestigious home science college. This sari has been designed by a student of her college who has studied textile design. It has a green lower border joined to the body by fuschia temples and a fuschia upper border joined to the body by parrot green temples. Both the borders have a strip of dull zari. The pallu is in a striking contrast bluish purple with gichcha. I wore my fuschia stone set. The sari came with a blouse the same colour as the pallu but is hidden by the fuschia pullover thanks to the cold weather. I handcrafted my bindi, inspired by the temple border into a bluish purple temple shape with a central fuschia dot below and two small lines in green on either side of the dot using liquid bindi. My potli is a fuschia cotton handloom one with a gold tissue border, tiny woven floral motifs with a golden drawstring ending in tassels made with beads. I am off to celebrate the evening at a friends’ whose birthday too falls today.I will post the pics of the evening outfit tomorrow. PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS. 8.1.18 I posted the pics of the pickle this morning and promised to post the recipe. Sorry friends that will have to wait till tomorrow as I am yet to pen down the recipe. I am a January born. In fact day after is my birthday. Why am I telling you this is because strange as it may sound, inspite of being born in the thick of winter, I can’t stand the cold. Till mid December its Ok but not thereafter when the fog starts and one keeps begging the sun to show up.That doesn’t mean I love the scorching heat of Delhi but I definitely prefer summer to winter. However, just when I was thinking that it will be cold outside and I will have to get the pics clicked indoors in Mallika’s room,a peep through the window and the Sun in its full glory, smiling at me,gave me immense joy. I was back at my favourite spot, my balcony with the beautiful trees of neem, mango, tamarind etc as the backdrop. In one of the pics the sun can be seen peeping through the branches. I wore a beige silk with horizontal self stripes with a lovely woven border and pallu in chocolate brown and a darker shade of beige. The sari was a gift I received many moons ago,at the launch of a cable network for which Vinod was invited. The girls and I accompanied him as we had turned devotees of Shirdi Sai and wanted to visit Shirdi. That first visit was a memorable & overwhelming one. I paired the sari with a chocolate brown pullover. The jewellery has smoky topaz stone which matches the sweater. The bindi is a stick on one in brown and not handcrafted because I was feeling too cold and lazy. My potli is a muddy brown silk one with a self embroidery abd golden draw string with tassels. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ILoveHandloom #ForTheLoveOfHandloom #HandloomSarees #GiftOfLove #SilkSari

6.1.18 PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS Thanks friends for responding to my question of the day. Majority answered Shawl and I too probably would have answered the same because it is the typical embroidery one sees on a lot of shawls from Kashmir. However, this is the pic of the hand embroidery on the pallu of my silk sari. The same is there on the borders, narrower upper and broader lower one and follows into the pallu. I used a strip of the same in the centre of the back of the blouse. However the sleeves have a different motif as you can see in the pics. You can’t see my pic wearing the blouse beacause it is too cold and I wore a bla k sweater which covered it. However, I posted the pic of the sleeve separately. I wore this sari to work and later to a book written by a dear doctor friend which was launched by Vinod at the book fair today. More about it in tomorrow’s post. We have a Kashmiri shawl seller coming to Delhi annually in October and leaving in March. We have known him for 25 years.I have got a few outfits custom hand embroidered through him.. sarees, jackets, coats, salwar kameez etc.I would buy the fabric and ask my tailor to mark out on the fabric, cut out the body, sleeves etc and give it to the shawl dealer to get embroidery done.I bought the fabric for this sari from #NalliSilk, got embroidery on the sari & blouse. I accessorised with beautiful oxidised silver jewellery, with mustard colour stones.I frequently borrow this from my bestie Mini, who is my neighbour too.The bracelet and rings are mine. My potli is an off white silk with Kantha embroidery in the colours of the sari. My bindi is handcrafted using black liquid bindi to resemble the embroidery on the sari. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #OOTD #SOTD #SareeLove #ILoveSarees #Fortheloveofsari #HandEmbroideredSari #KashmiriEmbroiderySari #KashmiriSari #PotliLove #ILoveBindis #HandcraftedBindi #SilkSari

PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS 30.12.17 I just realised that this sari post from 2017 is pending. My daughter @bakul_dua’s favourite sari from Odisha in turneric yellow silk with pallu and border in brownish maroon, often referred to as “ Coca Cola “ colour. This was bought by me from the erstwhile “Odisha weavers society “ shop in South Extension Part 2.The ikkat pallu has beautiful motifs,in the form of conch shell or shankh, rudraksh and a square one resembling rangoli. The border has 4 rows of woven motifs in the form of rudraksh. I paired it with its own blouse. I wore my antique maroon stone jewellery. My potli is a perfect marfch in the colours of the sari with hand embroidery with tiny mirrors. The bindi is a maroon stick on. #instagramchinnaduasarees #sotd #ootd #sari #sarees #handloomsarees #ilovehandloom #fortheloveofhandloom #fortheloveofsarees #potli #potlilove #FortheLoveofpotlis #odishahandloom #ikat #ikatsari #silksari #ilovesilks

PLZ SWIPE TO SEE ALL THE PICS 1.1.18 Happy new year to all of you and may every year in the future be better than the previous one. Last year was a year of “ connecting through social media”. The number of people I connected with was phenomenal.I had the good fortune of personally meeting a whole lot of them.I can’t possibly name them all and hence all I can say is thanks a ton for your immense love.So many of you stood by me and supported me when I was a victim of some autocratic obnoxious people in a group that I was a member of. Thanks all. You all make my day. All those who showered me with your gifts of love. Thanks a ton..God bless us all always. Last evening, New Year’s eve was at a dear doctor friend cum neighbour’s place. No party hopping or holding up the driver. What a sane 31st December!! We just walked it to the venue. Our old pianist friend Naval played old Bollywood melodies and Vinod & I sang along. I wore a green crepe Christmas tree look alike sari with hand embroidery all over, gifted by Vinod years ago from #NallisilkSarees. I paired it with a beige pullover. My usual 2 woollen shawls was not going to be adequate as it was pretty cold and we were going to walk it. Hence the pullover was the right thing. I wore a maroonish red bead set. I handcrafted my bindi using maroon liquid into leaves & stem pattern like that on the sari and my silk clutch with hand embroidery using golden thread, from #CottageEmporium. #handembroidery #handembroideredSari #Nallisilk #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ootd #sotd #sarilove #fortheloveofsarees #ClutchFromCottageEmporium #crepesarees #ilovecrepe #Ilovehandloom #GiftOfLove #HandcraftedBindi #Fortheloveofbindi #Bindilove

29.12.17 So here is the answer to the questions that I posted this morning. This is a very light beautiful sea green silk with motifs woven in white on the body, border and pallu with a pop of maroon. Hence the maroon blouse with block printed white motifs which are the source of inspiration of my bindi handcrafted using maroon liquid. It is a decade plus old and I received this as a gift from my late brother’s samdhis at his son’s wedding. My guess is the sari is from Bengal though I am not sure. The pallu is gorgeous. I wore pearls with it. My sea green brocade potli too is very old and is from #cottageemporium at Janpath,Delhi and has golden cords as drawstrings with golden tissue triangular tassels. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #SOTD #OOTD #SariLove #SilkSari #HandloomSari #ILoveHandlooms #ForTheLoveOfSarees #GiftOfLove #BrocadePotli #PotliLove #PearlJewellery #HandcraftedBindi #Bindi #Sari #Sarees

PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS . 28.12.17 A post delayed by 2 weeks coz I wore it on 17.12.17. It was the annual day of Mahajan Imaging centre which has its centres in Delhi NCR. The owner Dr.Harsh Mahajan, a radiologist, is my batchmate. His wife and he are very close friends of ours and now the whole family including the DILs and their parents are friends of ours. We were very honoured when they invited Vinod to be the chief guest at his annual day where the entire staff with their family is invited. I was one of the judges at the inter zonal cultural event. We had a super time.Vinod’s talk was brilliant.I will upload it on FB today and post the link on my bio. When I was working at DCA,I had a senior colleague who was my anatomy professor during my MBBS days. She used to wear lovely phirans which she possessed in all colours. She used to source it from a Kashmiri shawl dealer Farooq, who till date, comes to Delhi around October with his stuff to sell and leaves mid March.Such a mild mannered gentleman Farooq is. On one of his visits he even got us some delectable kababs made by his wife. I picked up some nice stuff from him and got some sarees, jackets, salwar kameez etc customized too.The black crepe sari I wore that day was customised too.I bought the crepe material and discussed the embroidery to be done. The Kashmiri hand embroidery is fantastic.I am reposting the pics of the border and pallu I posted this afternoon. The embroidery has stunning flame orange colour. I paired it with its own blouse. I carried an orange silk quilted potli with red piping, bought at an exhibition. The jewellery I wore is my coral set. The embroidery has chinar leaves and paisleys too.The bindi naturally was handcrafted into a black paisley using black liquid bindi. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #OOTD #SOTD #SareeLove #ILoveSarees #Fortheloveofsari #HandEmbroideredSari #KashmiriEmbroiderySari #KashmiriSari #PotliLove #ILoveBindis #HandcraftedBindi #CustomisedSari

23.12.17 PLEASE SWIPE TO SEE ALL THE PICS When we left on the 21st for Bhubaneswar, I didn’t have the foggiest idea that it would be such an overwhelming trip. Prior to my departure I didn’t mention about my visit on FB or Instagram. I have loads of FB friends residing in Odisha but since it was a short trip and we were there for the Kalinga lit fest where Vinod was to deliver talks,I wasn’t sure if I would have any time to meet my friends. The evening I landed,I accessed Instagram and received a message from Amrita of @utkalamrita wanting to gift me a particular Odisha Sachipar sari as I had liked that sari post and had commented “beautiful”.I was thrilled.I wrote to her that it was uncanny as I had landed in her city that evening and I receive this message that she wants to gift me an Odisha sari.We exchanged numbers. She was delighted to learn of out visit and came to meet us on 23rd, took us to her office and gifted me the beautiful sari.I will wear it in summer and post pics. Both Amrita and her sis Anita are very lovely, highly qualified girls and started this venture to do something for their state.Amrita couldn’t believe that she had actually met us and that we were in her office. She kept saying that she is going on pinching herself to be sure.It was a pleasure meeting these warm and friendly girls.I feel truly blessed. I wore a black Odisha silk sari -a pasapalli (checkerboard pattern) with few ikat floral motifs in green with a gorgeous pallu and border in red & turmeric yellow pairing it with a red blouse belonging to another Odisha sari.Sari was bought by me from erstwhile Orissa weaver’s society shop in South Ex.I wore oxidized silver jewellery and a black stick on bindi. My potli was replaced by a red cloth handbag with white embroidery from Vietnam, gifted by bestie Mini. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #OOTD #SOTD #SareeLove #ILoveSarees #HandloomSarees #SilkSari #PasapalliWithIkatSari #SariFromOrissaWeaversSociety #ILoveHandloom #OxidisedSilverJewellery #GiftOfLove #PotliLove #BagFromVietnam #EmbroideredBag #Utkalamrita #SachiparSari #OdishaHandloom #OdishaSarees

PLZ SWIPE TO SEE ALL THE PICS 20.12.17 I better get my act together. It is 20 th of December and I am posting pics of my sari worn on 10th December. This is so unlike me.I guess it is thanks to aging. 10.12.17 I studied at the prestigious LHMC -Lady Hardinge Medical College, now the only medical college in the world, for women only, for MBBS.I had a girl one batch senior to me Poonam Midha, who I would exchange pleasantries with when we would travel by the same bus or occassionally in the college. When my younger one Mallika Dua,joined a nursery school with day care,I returned to a full time job which was at the iconic Diwan Chand Aggarwal Imaging centre. There I met Poonam again and we became friends, soulmates for life. After a year, she had to leave the city when her hubby got posted out and I remember howling so much. However, the bond till date is very strong. Few years ago when her daughter got married she gifted me this awesome lavender silk benarasi with zari motifs all over and a light turquoise with beautiful dull zari border and pallu. The zari looks like vintage zari and I love it.I wore this to the two back to back lunch invites on 10th,one of which was a wedding reception of Masha and Blake, the wedding about which I wrote in few recent posts and the other was the annual lunch hosted by the Shervani family. The Lucknawi food consisting of delectable melt in the mouth seekh kababs and mutton kalia besides many other delicacies, was to die for. I paired the sari with its own turquoise blue blouse and wore my turquoise with pearl jewellery set, gifted by dear friend,BIL’s samdhan Dimpi Singh. The mauve silk brocade potli with metal handle from Fab India gifted by another dear friend, erstwhile and college mate Prabha,a year junior to me at LHMC. The purple paisley bindi with teal dots below, handcrafted using liquid bindi was inspired by paisleys on the potli. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ootd #Sari #Sarees #ILoveSarees #SilkSari #HandloomSari #IloveHandloom #LavenderWithTurquoiseSari #BenarasiSari #GiftOfLove #PotliLove #SOTD #FabIndiaPotli

16.12.17 PLZ SWIPE TO SEE ALL THE PICS A very hectic Saturday. Work as hectic. We were invited to an annual X-Mas lunch hosted by our dear friends Devi and Dilip Cherian at Lodi restaurant.Fortunately it was a day made to order and we had loads of fun. Thereafter we were invited to tea at the residence of Madhav Shriram. His elder brother Alok and he,belonging to DCM Shriram family, have been keeping up the family tradition of organising the very prestigious “ Shankar Shad Mushaira”. It was a very proud moment as Vinod was invited to be the chief guest at the mushaira. It was a very nostalgic moment too as it was held at Shankar Lal Auditorium,Modern School,Barakhamba Road, where our girls had performed every year, received awards when they were studying there. The prestigious mushaira was started by chacha bhateeja ( uncle- nephew) Shankar Lal “Shankar” and Murlidhar “Shaad” in Lyallpur, now in Pakistan. Both were very eminent Urdu poets and the Mushaira begins with someone reading their poetry. I wore my red Tanchoi as it would be apt for the X mas lunch and the prestigious mushaira.I have to thank my dear friend Archana Kapoor who called me to see some sarees brought by a weaver from Benares, known to her,who was visiting Delhi.I picked up 2 gorgeous sarees at unbelievable prices, many moons ago. This red with woven floral morifs all over is one of my favourite sarees. I paired it with its own blouse. I accessorised with my gold and pearl set. My potli from #Palna ( an orphanage) sale is a fawn with a red paisley with sequins stitched on it and matched the beautiful pallu with paisleys on it. Tanchoi Silk was is said to have been brought to India through Chinese traders in 19th century. Also, three Parsi brothers are said to have traveled to China in the 19th century, who after learning the skill, came back to Gujarat and trained the weavers in the technique and then innovated the Tanchoi weaving technique into Indian versions. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ootd #Sari #Sarees #ILoveSarees #SilkSari #HandloomSari #IloveHandlooms #BenarasiSari #TanchoiSari #RedTanchoiSari #ShankarShadMushaira #DressedForXmasParty #Mushaira #PotliLove #SOTD

PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS 15.12.17 Awfully sorry for this late post thanks to a hectic day.The answer to my QOTD is turquoise. Many of you wrote blue but I was looking for turquoise blue as the answer. We had recently visited Dubai where Vinod was invited to be the chief guest at a function organised by the alumni association of Aligarh Muslim University. We met lovely people there and added many to our circle of friends.A young couple Yasser and Bhavna were one such couple. They are visiting Delhi and so we took them, their family and friends to Karim’s at Islamic Centre. The food was awesome as always and we enjoyed the company of our friends. My bestie Renu Gulati who gifts me gorgeous sarees gifted me a beautiful turquoise with grey border silk Pashmina sari, which is what I wore to the dinner. It is a beautiful sari with flowers all over some in bright turquoise and some in teal. I paired it with the striped blouse it came with. The bindi was inspired by the stripes and hence I handcrafted parallel lines using Faber Castell water soluble pencil in teal colour. I wore my oxidised silver jewellery set which has irregular grey stones.I wore an oxidised silver bracelet and rings. My potli is a turquoise tanchoi with a silver base, tassels & draw strings gifted by Vinod’s niece Shivani. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #SilkPashminaSari #ootd #Sari #Sarees #ILoveSarees #SilkSari #HandloomSari #IloveHandlooms #GiftOfLove #PotliLove #SOTD #IloveJewellery

PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS 14.12.17 Our very dear doctor friends Ambrish and Ranjana Mithal’s son Vibhav’s wedding functions started with the sangeet on 8.12.17.Unfortunately we couldn’t attend the wedding on 9th and reception on the 10th. On 8th we 1st went to the inauguration of a new restaurant called “ Limitless” at Ansal Plaza on Khel Gaon Marg.It is the venture of a dear friend’s daughter in law. Awesome food and ambience. We couldn’t spend too much time as we had to attend Vibhav’s sangeet function . I wore a black Kanjivaram with gorgeous red border and pallu with zari. I bought this sari on 4th Oct 2015 from PSR , a 4 storeyed sari store in Coimbatore. 26 of my batchmates from Lady Hardinge Medical College , went on a 3 day trip to Ooty and Coonoor. It was so much fun. On our way back prior to boarding our flight, we all went to PSR and shopped. Since its a Kanjivaram, I am a Tambrahm, I accessorized with a necklace with matching tops, from the south. My potli is a recent gift from an Instagram friend. It is a stunning red brocade with floral zari motifs all over, golden drawstrings with golden tassels. The potli has a lovely golden scalloped edging on the sides and the base.My bindi was handcrafted into a red flower motif with small black dot below using liquid bindi, inspired by the floral motif on the potli. PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS. 6.12.17 This is the last post about Masha and Blake wedding which ideally should have been the 1st based on chronological order as this was on 25.11.17 and the 1st event we could attend as both of them were unwell for the dholki function at Masha’s on 24th. Our dear friends Sujata and RD hosted a party to celebrate the forthcoming wedding, another friend’s birthday and Masha’s parents’ anniversary. We had apologised for our inability to make it to the party and an hour later Vinod felt upto it and we pleasantly surprised all there by landing up.However, sitting outside till 1AM in the open that night did me in and I had to be on antibiotics, steroids, nebulisers, steam and the works. A friend from Lahore was visiting Delhi and she was to return the next day.We hadn’t met her even once.Fortunately she joined us at the party and we had fun. I wore a one sided border lemon yellow Nalli Silk Kanjivaram with bottle green zari gorgeous abstract border & pallu with leaf motifs sandwiched between zari line. There are woven zari leaf motifs all over. This was my nephew’s gift to my elder daughter when he got married.I paired it with wine coloured brocade blouse with zari & green paisleys all over, belonging to another sari. The sleeves are a light onion pink with pin tucks. My bindi is handcrafted into a green paisley inspired by the motif on the blouse. I wore a glass Kundan jewellery. The necklace has green beads and two fawn coloured ones.My danglers have green and pink stones too. The green velvet potli with machine embroidery using copperish gold sequins, zircons is from fabric left over after getting a kurta tailored. It has golden cords for drawstrings with triangular green fabric as tassels. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ootd #NalliSilkSari #LemonYellowWithGreenBorderSari #PotliLove #VelvetPotli #Sari #Sarees #HandloomSari #ILoveHandlooms #SOTD #IloveJewellery #GiftOfLove #KanjeevaramSari #SilkSari

PLS SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS. 1.12.17-2.12.17 Mallika Kirti weds Blake Candler in Goa. What a beautiful wedding!!!! Too many pics clicked. I don’t know where to begin.I am yet to post pics of the pre wedding celebrations. However, sitting here on the beach tonight enjoying the post wedding dinner,I decided to post pics of the day wedding. It began with the Christian ceremony of exchange of vows which was “ WOW”.So short, sweet, relevant ,and touching. It was followed by the Hindu ceremony which was a long one.Look at the pics of the vedi with the sea behind it. It doesn’t get more beautiful.Inspite of Goa being sultry we had a great time. I wore my red with orange, fuschia and copperish zari Chanderi picked up at the shop in the hotel Usha Kiran, owned by Taj in Gwalior, last year when Vinod was conferred a D.Litt Honoris Causa. This was gifted by Vinod. The sari has a lovely vertical ribbed pattern all over.I paired it with an orange brocade blouse with round zari motifs.I wore chunky kundan jewellery. My potli is an off white with copper zardozi work and sequins. My bindi is handcrafted into a large round red with a V shape below in orange and a tiny red dot below using water colours. #instagramchinnaduasarees #DestinationWedding #WeddingInGoa #MarriottGoaWedding #ChanderiSarees #HandloomSarees #ilovehandloomsarees #SariLove #IlovePotlis #PotliLove #bindilove #HandcraftedBindi #ilovejewellery #GiftOfLove

PLZ SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS. 26.11.17 It is 26.11.17 and I am posting the sari I wore on 22.11.17 because I have been under the weather, thanks to the horrible pollution, sudden drop in temperatures.Today,I felt a wee bit better and decided to post. The sari I wore to work is a purple Sambalpuri ikkat with eclectic woven motifs in fuschia,a purple border with woven work in golden yellow thread. The pallu is awesome too with strips of a variety of motifs like flowers, conchshell, elephants, wheel etc.I decided to pair it with a fuschia blouse belonging to another Maheshwari sari.It has a lovely block printed border which has purple colour in it and a strip of golden zari too. I wore my golden beads matar mala with a square gold tops which matches one of the motifs on the sari. My bindi is handcrafted into a swastik shape, inspired by one of the motifs on the sari which reminded me of swastik, with purplish wine coloured Faber Castell water soluble pencil.Out of the multiple motifs on the sari one of them resembles a Swastik and inspired this bindi. My potli is replaced by a purplish wine bag with hand embroidery using light mauve beads and has a thick mauve cord as a handle. Sambalpuri sarees are known for their incorporation of traditional motifs like shankha (shell), chakra (wheel), phula (flower), all of which have deep symbolism, but the highpoint of these sarees is the traditional craftsmanship of the 'Bandhakala', the Tie-dye art reflected in their intricate weaves, also known as Sambalpuri "Ikkat". In this technique, the threads are first tie-dyed and later woven into a fabric, with the entire process taking many weeks. The unique feature of this form of designing is that the designs are reflected almost identically on both side of the fabric.Once the fabric is dyed it can never be bleached in to other colour. These sarees first became popular outside the state when Indira Gandhi started wearing them. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ILoveSaris #HandloomLove #ILoveHandloom #splendoursofodishaweaves @vijayalaxmichhabra #SambalpuriIkkatSari #PurpleAndFuschiaSari #Bindis #ILoveBindis #ILoveJewellery #Sari #Sarees #HandcraftedBindi #ILovePotlis #PotliLove

PLZ SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS. 23.11.17 The sari I wore to work on the 21.11.17 which was a 2 sari day is a gift from our very dear doctor friends Nirmala and Shekhar Aggarwal who are very dear friends and neighbors. They gifted this to me at the time of the wedding of one of their twins. It is a lovely lotus pink silk from Nalli Silks. It has checks all over outlined with maroon double stripe. It has a maroon temple border, followed by multi coloured strips in mustard, black, maroon and grey. The black pallu has woven floral motifs sandwiched between multiple white woven stripes. I paired it with its own black blouse with the sleeves having the same multicoloured strips as the sari. I wore oxidized silver jewellery. My tiny beaded hand bag replaced my potli. It is a small one from the pre cellphone days and is made of grey, black and maroon beads. I handcrafted my bindi into a shape resembling the dome of a temple with tiny black dots below using liquid bindi. When my domestic help was clicking my pics Mallika and Vinod came out into the balcony and decided to shoot a video of this daily ritual. They were laughing and hence I too am seen laughing in many pics as their laugh was contagious. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ILoveSaris #HandloomLove #ILoveHandloom #NalliSilk #LotusPinkWithBlackBorderSari #Bindis #ILoveBindis #ILoveJewellery #OxidizedSilverJewellery #Sari #Sarees #GiftOfLove #HandcraftedBindi

PLZ SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS. 21.11.17 It was a 2 sarees day. I am posting the evening sari 1st. We attended the awesome grand finale of the wedding of Tahira Karanjawala. The high point of last evening was Mallika who is here to attend the wedding of 2 friends, joined me when I was getting my pics clicked. I have mentioned this umpteen times that 95% of my sarees are gifts from Vinod and he has a fantastic taste. When he was presenting” Zaika India Ka”, he would buy sarees from every city that he would visit.I was running out of space because I hadn’t yet started rolling my sarees and storing them.So when he went to Assam,I told him strictly no more sarees. He reluctantly agreed. However,on his next trip to Tamil Nadu,he called me from a sari shop and made the sales girl talk to me in Tamil describing 2 sarees.I was zapped but it was futile arguing. He returned home and when I saw the sarees,I was speechless.I asked him why he bought them inspite of my “ORDERS”. It was the sweetest threat that I had ever heard”If you do not allow me to buy then I will look for someone for whom I can buy”. Thereafter the voice of dissent was permanently silenced. It is a stunning green shot silk Kanjivaram with 2 tones maroon and green, woven peepal leaf shaped self motifs all over with a gorgeous maroon border with zari. There are smaller motifs in zari, maroon and green within these large leaves. The broad lower border is what I love which has large zari paisleys. The heavy maroon palla has woven zari pattern all over. The blouse is maroon with zari border that came with it. The bindi is handcrafted into maroon paisley with green dots below using liquid bindi. The clutch from Nalli Silks in gold, maroon and green replaces my potli. I accessorised with South Indian gold jewellery. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ILoveSaris #HandloomLove #ILoveHandloom #KanjivaramSilk #GreenWithMaroonBorderSari #PaisleyMotifSari #Bindis #ILoveBindis #ILoveJewellery #NalliSilkClutch #Sari #Sarees #IloveJewellery #GiftOfLove #HandcraftedBindi

PLZ SWIPE TO SEE ALL THE PICS. 17.11.17 I wore an off white silk Pochampalli with red border with a bit of zari.. a sari probably 30 years old. The body has criss cross pattern woven in red and the border as well as palla are gorgeous.I am no authority on handloom its just a guess work. I have mentioned umpteen times Vinod has gifted me most of my sarees. However, on one of his shoots ,I think in Chennai or Bangalore, his sound recordist from Doordarshan Mr.Sambamurthy, a Tamil like me,who was very fond of me, told Vinod that he would like to gift me one. This beautiful one was gifted by him and I really cherish it. I decided to pair it with a contrast blouse black handloom cotton with red border with zig zag zari pattern. My necklace made of metal- golden, black and red cords twisted together was gifted by my girls. My tops have red, black and golden beads. My kada is from Nagpur- a red plastic with a flat gold bangle embedded within with a zig zag pattern on it. My potli is replaced by a soft silk maroonish red clutch from cottage emporium and has hand embroidery with golden thread and sequins. My bindi is just a simple round red one handcrafted using liquid bindi with black dots below. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #ILoveSarees #ChinnaDuaSarees #HandloomSari #ILoveHandloomSarees #PochampalliSari #SilkSari #OffWhiteWithRedBorderSari #Sarees #Sari #Bindis #ILoveBindis #ILoveJewellery #PotliLove #Potli #GiftOfLove #gullygullypochampally @designerrajirm

PLEASE SWIPE AND SEE ALL THE PICS . PLEASE CLICK ON THE LINK IN MY BIO TO READ THE ARTICLE. 17.11.17 Hi all,Nehmat Kaur is a culture writer based in New Delhi. She writes a weekly column for The Wire called Name-Place-Animal-Thing and tweets @nehmatks. Two days back she contacted me to interview me. This was an article she was doing for The Wire in response to the recent NYT article that claimed the Modi government is pushing Hindu identity through popularising saris. She wanted to know my take on saris and nationalism which was published in the article but I got really late posting my OOTD last night and couldn’t share it. The link to the article is on my bio. Please do read it.The article says “On November 12, the New York Times published an article that claims the Narendra Modi government – steered by textile minister Irani – is promoting Hindu nationalism by popularising Banarasi saris, which according to the author who wrote the NYT piece, are mostly worn by Hindu women.Modi supporters are irate that the article takes a negative tone on the promotion of Hindu nationalism and the liberals are miffed with the ignorant assertion that the sari is a Hindu garment.” I have posted screenshots of the parts of the article where I have been quoted. Incidentally the pic of mine shows me wearing a mul cotton sari I bought from dear @bashuli17200 of @pink_paisely Have a super day. #InstagramChinnaDuaSarees #SareesAndNationalism #SareesAndHinduIdentity #Sari #Sarees #ILoveSarees
