When I was in college, I took a Japanese art history class and learned about painted narrative scrolls called emakimono, dating back to the 8th century. The media is often decorated and becomes part of the narrative. I first practiced this technique when I decided to create my own scroll for my final project for the class narrating the current political climate of 2018.
