🔱 PR22 Final Match 🔱 Had an awesome day at @pro_shoot_firearms today for the @gbprecisionrifleassociation PR22 Finale Match. It was fun shooting with the mighty squad 3 - @bmcilwaine @celticprecision @adey_prs Ryan, James, and Dan. It was a cold day (1’C - 4’C), but it was dry so that made a huge difference on morale for the shooters. We had 9 stage’s throughout the day on a range of barricades with targets from 35m out to just over 160m. I felt like I shot well today. I hit most things I aimed at, and I can attribute the misses to rushing a shot, cant, and wobble zone on the less stable barricades. I had a couple of stoppages (feeding issues) but overall I’m really happy with how today went. Overall I came 7th in Open Division and 12th Overall - this included getting a stage 1st on stage 1 and 2nd on stage 3! Congratulations @bmcilwaine for getting the factory trophy! Looking forward to the 2024 PR22 season. 🔱 Real-world dope 🔱 And there’s definitely something about having calculated drops at distance, and actually getting real world dope where you can see your shots at distance. And I managed to get out to ProShoot Firearms at the weekend to get a good solid, zero 50 m in and then check my bullet dropped after 176 m. For me, it’s all about making sure that I have a back up for the systems that I use. In this case, it’s bullet drop data (elevation) at different ranges. 🔱PEW🔱 A handy little acronym to help you remember scope adjustments: P - Parallax E - Elevation W - Wind PARALLAX. Parallax occurs when your target and reticle are on different focal planes within the scope. You can see parallax shift if you move your head around whilst looking through your scope - the reticle will appear to move around the target. Incorrect parallax settings will cause the reticle image to shift on your target and may induce misses! Use the parallax dial to get your target in focus. The dial is generally marked in yards, so you can use these as coarse adjustment, but once in the general area, you will need to ignore the markings and focus on getting the target image nice and crisp. ELEVATION - the elevation turret is used to mechanically vertically adjust your scope to allow for bullet drop. Luckily for us, gravity is constant 👌Use your ballistics calculator to give you the correct elevation for your intended target. You will need to accurately range your target - I would recommend using a laser range finder, preferably one that can calculate horizontal component distance (also takes into account the shooting angle). WIND - wind will cause your bullet to move either left or right of your point of aim depending on the wind direction. Flags, moving vegetation and the feel of the wind on your face can all help determine the wind direction. There are also many devices that can aid your wind call, such as a Kestrel. The wind speed and angle of the wind are important factors in determining your wind call. Had a great time at the @gbprecisionrifleassociation PR22 match this weekend. We had 15+1 fun and challenging stages, ruining steels out to around 250m over the past two days. (I’ll put the videos on my YouTube channel soon). My CZ457 LRP ran perfectly in its new ROME chassis. The adjustable stock meant I could lengthen my length of pull for prone and shorten it for more upright positions. Having decent glass helped, the Strike Eagle 5-25x56 offered amazing clarity and solid adjustments. This being my second rimfire match, I’m very happy to have ranked 9th in the open division and 13th overall. I made a few errors along the way, which cost me impacts. Lessons learnt/take always for me include: - take more time on stage prep. - plan mag changes as I would for IPSC matches. - return my elevation to zero stop after every stage. - linked to the above point, carry out and practice miss drills. - don’t rush shots, if you’re not comfortable don’t take the shot. - don’t forget to dial. - practice, practice, and practice. If you think you’ve practiced enough, do some more.
