🐠 Dive into #CoralReefAwarenessWeek with us! As planet-conscious travellers, we want to shed light on the incredible beauty and fragility of our ocean's reefs. This week is all about raising awareness about these vibrant ecosystems and inspire action for their conservation. Coral reefs are like underwater rainforests, teeming with an abundance of marine life. They provide habitats for countless species, protect coastlines, and support the overall health of our planet. Yet, they face numerous threats like climate change, pollution and destructive fishing practices. Here are some fin-tastic ways we can all do our bit to make a difference: πŸͺΈ Choose reef-safe sunscreen: Opt for sunscreens that are free from harmful chemicals like oxybenzone and octinoxate. Let's keep our skin protected without harming the reef. πŸͺΈ Snorkel responsibly: When exploring the underwater wonderland, remember to admire from a distance and avoid touching or stepping on the corals. Be a respectful visitor in their vibrant home. πŸͺΈ Reduce plastic waste: Plastic pollution poses a significant threat to coral reefs. Say no to single-use plastics and embrace reusable alternatives. Let's keep our oceans clean and plastic-free! πŸͺΈ Support sustainable seafood: Make sustainable choices when it comes to seafood consumption. Look for eco-friendly labels or choose fish that are harvested using sustainable practices. It's all about making delicious choices that don't harm our ocean friends. πŸͺΈ Practice responsible boating: Anchor responsibly to avoid damaging coral reefs. Look for designated mooring buoys or sandy areas where anchoring won't harm fragile coral habitats. πŸͺΈ Spread awareness: Share the beauty and importance of coral reefs with your friends, family, and followers. Use the power of social media to raise awareness and inspire others to take action. πŸͺΈ Volunteer for reef cleanups: Join local organisations or community initiatives that organise reef cleanups. Dive in, lend a hand, and help preserve the underwater paradise we love. Remember, every small action counts! Together, let's protect and preserve our precious reefs for generations to come. 🌊✨

Can we talk about sunscreen for a minute? β˜€οΈ If you are going on a tropical holiday this year, please get yourself some 100% natural biodegradable sunscreen for the days you'll be swimming in the ocean. 🌊 Many tropical destinations are banning sunscreens that contain oxybenzone and octinoxate, two common UV-blocking chemicals, that studies have shown cΓ²ntribute to the deterioration of our coral reefs. πŸͺΈ The list of destinations includes Hawaii, Aruba, Bonaire, US Virgin Islands, Key West, Florida, Palau, Thailand, etc. Eco tourism reserves with natural waterparks in Riviera Maya & Cozumel, Mexico are also implementing this ban. 🐠 Make sure the label reads reef safe, organic & and biodegradable, and list the active ingredients as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. My personal favorites? Eminence's Lilikoi Mineral Defense Sport SPF30 & Red Currant Protective Moisturizer SPF40 Bonus - my local travellers can get them @lotustree.wellness in Carlyle, SK. Briana, can help you out! . . . #beachvacation #protectreefs #protectyourskin #responsiblesnorkeling #oceanawareness #sunscreen #wanderloritravel

We can’t change our past and we don’t know our future. All we have is our present. And right here, right now, in this absolutely amazing place, I couldn’t have asked for anything else from life. 🐠 What you can do to protect our coral reefs? Practice safe & responsible diving/snorkeling. Try to avoid touching the reef at all time. Contact with the reef will damage the delicate coral animals, so please do not ever touch our reefs πŸ§œπŸ’™ #Zanzibar #africa #oneworld #onepeople #discover #tanzania #tanzaniaπŸ‡ΉπŸ‡Ώ #explore #sustainabletourism #sustainabletravel #travelrebel #belgianinafrica #travelblogger #thattravelblog #underwater #magicworld #tanzania #reisblogger #responsiblesnorkeling #responsiblediving #diver #girlswhoscuba #goprohero7 #reizen #marinelife #diver #snorkel #mnemba @the_zanzibari

Sea. Turtles.⁣ ‒⁣ My favorite marine animals, and also some of the better known. My goal with #marinemondays is to educate you all with cool facts about individual species, but today I'm going to use this video of an epic hawksbill to focus on one thing that applies to all wildlife. It is this: Please don't touch the animals.⁣ ‒⁣ When I arrived in Belize, I was told by nearly every snorkeling agency I was guaranteed to see many turtles. I could barely sleep in anticipation of seeing my first wild sea turtle. The next day, I started scoping out reputable diving agencies and, upon finding one, excitedly chatted to the dive masters about how I was ready to see so many turtles. They looked at each other and said to me, "Actually, you probably won't see any."⁣ ‒⁣ I was floored. So many people I'd talked to in the area said turtles were a guarantee on any dive. But the dive instructors told me that despite Belize having a healthy and strongly protected reef system, unregulated snorkeling had scared all the resident turtles away from the local reefs. How? People were touching them, chasing after them for a photo op, stepping on and destroying the corals they like to eat, invading their spaces without realizing their damage. Ignorance is one thing, but the snorkel companies, according to my dive masters, actually encouraged feeding and touching the turtles, disrupting natural hunting behaviors and ultimately scaring them away. That’s not ignorance - they know better.⁣ ‒⁣ On my second dive, I was blessed by the Turtle Goddess. A beautiful hawksbill briefly came into view. Immediately, other divers started moving in on her, but they saw me and I motioned for them to stay back (the rule of thumb is to stay at least 10-15 feet away from turtles). And look what a beautiful moment it was. It was the only turtle I saw that trip.⁣ ‒⁣ If you've fed or touched a turtle, I'm telling you this to raise awareness, not to make you feel bad about what you did in the past! Take this information and spread it so that others are aware, and so that everyone can witness the magic that is a turtle in its natural, free habitat. Have you seen a turtle in the wild before? Please tell me!! πŸ’πŸ’™
