2006 Audi S8 V10 If you follow this account closely enough, you'll know I like myself an Audi. If you know me personally, you know I like a Volkswagen Audi Group V10. If you know me in any capacity, you know I like something a little out there and silly. That's why I adore the fact that both the S6, RS6 and S8 of this era all had similar Lamborghini (derived) V10s. It makes sense in the RS6, the kerosene machine, the super aggressive performance car. But in a wallowing A8? It's downright laughable. But, it works. It still maintains the A8 prestige and understated demeanour whilst giving it some serious performance. Just hearing it drive past wouldn't give you the impression that it's hiding a 5.2 litre V10 (derived) from the Gallardo. However, that's not the biggest or craziest engine factory fitted to an A8. That would go to Volkswagen's darling, a W engine. Volkswagen Audi Group acquired a little classic sports car marque called 'Bugatti' around the turn of the millennium. They wanted to make a world-beating car. But to test mule the W16 fitted to such car - the Veyron - they put W12s in some top end luxury models. Both the Audi A8 and the ill-fated Volkswagen Phaeton got these production W12s, and the rest, as they say, is history.
