Stratford Public Safety Communications Center (SPSCC) is a six position state-of-the-art 9-1-1 center handling all disciplines, EMS, Fire, Police and Emergency Management for the Town of Stratford. Dispatchers are CT Telecommunicators and Nationally certified Advanced Emergency Medical, Fire and Police dispatcher utilizing the Medical Priority Dispatch Systems ProQA. They handle approximately 150,000 inbound/outbound phone calls and process around 50,000 9-1-1 calls per year. They are an amazing group of First,First Responder who execute their duties with professionalism and dedication worthy of recognition! On 4/5 Paramedic Heather Walsh and EMT Kyle Carmona were dispatched to an elderly male experiencing sudden onset chest pain and nausea. Rapid acquisition of a diagnostic 12-lead EKG was suspicious for an evolving event, serial 12-Lead EKGs revealed the development of an ST segment MI(STEMI) and Paramedic Walsh rapidly activated the cardiac catheterization lab, allowing a rapid transition of care to the appropriate resources upon arrival at the emergency department. Time is heart muscle and again our fantastic providers have provided the best opportunity for a meaningful recovery. 3/30 - Paramedic Walsh and EMT Carmona, along with Stratford PD and FD were called for a report of an unresponsive male. Upon their arrival an elderly male was found in cardiac arrest. Immediate initiation of skillful BLS and ALS care resulted in a return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) on scene. The patient was safely transported to the hospital with post resuscitative care where care was continued by the emergency medicine and cardiology teams. Fantastic work by our team. We would like to congratulate EMT Kyle Carmona who matched into residency at Yale University in Emergency Medicine. Kyle has been with us since 2021 while also working extensively on his studies in medical school. He will be graduating with his Medical Degree in June. On 1/11/2024 Paramedic Dorta, Paramedic Supervisor Yurksaitis, and EMT Costantini responded along with Stratford FD first responders to a female in cardiac arrest. Basic and advanced cardiac life support was immediately initiated with our incredibly skilled team acquiring a return of spontaneous circulation and respirations (ROSC). Advanced post resuscitative care of the highest quality was initiated, the emergency department was notified en route to assure optimal resources would be awaiting the patient’s arrival at the ED, and the patient was safely transported for continuing care. Because of the seamless and high quality prehospital care provided by our team, the patient has the best possible chance of a continuing recovery. We are pleased to announce that Full Time Paramedic John “Jack” Rodican has accepted the position of “Full Time Operations Supervisor” with Stratford EMS and will begin to transition into his new role on 10/2. Jack comes into this position with over 20 years in EMS and 10 as a paramedic. He has experience in law enforcement, security and corrections. Additionally, Jack is a well established EMS-Instructor through the State of CT, AHA and NAEMT. He has a bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and has worked as an Operations / Field Supervisor for a large commercial EMS. He has been with our organization since 2015 and since then has worked with the FT Paramedics union as their president, has been involved with teaching for SEMSTEC/SVEMSA and was a recipient of the Director Award at SEMS. Jack has shown great enthusiasm about joining the supervisory team here at Stratford EMS and is excited to get to work on the many important projects and challenges we have going on. As you know, each Full Time Supervisor is responsible for a specific role as well as day-to-day operations. Supervisor Smith handles CQI, Supervisor Yurksaitis handles Equipment / Supply management. Supervisor Rodican will oversee all aspects of Training for the department. Please join us in congratulating and supporting Jack on his promotion and new responsibilities. 6/2 Paramedic Egan and EMT Rivera along with Stratford first responders were dispatched to a call for a young male in cardiac arrest on the basketball court. Responders were at the patient’s side within one minute of dispatch. Rapid advanced cardiac life support was provided and resulted in a return of spontaneous circulation and respirations. Post resuscitative care and monitoring was provided and the hospital alerted to their incoming patient. Excellent basic and advanced care as well as incredible response times by all providers have allowed this patient a chance at recovery. 04/25- “Team Lenches” responded with Stratford FD first responders to a report of a 50 y/o male in Cardiac Arrest on a basketball court with bystander CPR in progress. Upon arrival the patient was found to be in Cardiac Arrest. Immediate bystander CPR had been performed upon witnessing the arrest event. Basic and advanced life support measures performed resulted in a return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), and patient regained consciousness prior to leaving the scene. All of these measures are critical functions in the chain of survival affording our patients the best possible chance of positive outcomes from sudden cardiac arrest. 04/07- Paramedic Battistelli and EMT Egan along with Hartford Healthcare paramedic student Pocius, responded to a 75 year old man in respiratory distress. During the course of extricating the patient from the house, the patient went unresponsive and experienced cardiac arrest. Rapid recognition and treatment of the arrest utilizing CPR and ACLS protocols resulted in a return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) and during transport to the hospital, patient regained consciousness and is neurologically intact.
