‧͙⁺˚*･༓☾ the making of ☽༓･*˚⁺‧͙ ie, why and how i made my first cosplay ! when my friends tom and cindy invited me to join them for #otakon2023 last year, i knew it would be an opportunity to combine my love of couture dressmaking with my interest in anime and meaningful storytelling. i thought, why not create something that’s definitely a cosplay, but that could also be worn as “normal” clothes outside of the anime convention ?💡 around the same time, i watched the iconic feminist series, 💖revolutionary girl utena💖 for me, it has a message of liberation that must be sought and created entirely outside of the paradigm of dominance. every battle can be won, but there’s no real peace until war is no longer the default context. no victims, no saviors. liberation is a conscious choice.⚔️🌹 not to give it away, but when i saw the dress & jacket in episode 39, i knew i had to make them !! i worked hard on the look for weeks, in the couture method. i drafted the pattern and assembled everything by hand, with underlinings and the perfect rose-printed lining. 🪡🧵found a few accessories to complete the look, and most of all had a really fun time at the con ! i was surprised how many people recognized my character or cosplayed utena/anthy !👯♀️ so, i’m posting almost a year later. but i think it took this long to find out how to share it. i’m so grateful for the way this project incorporated so much of what i love and care about, while connecting back to lauhala in the end. hopefully this will be the first of many such projects ! thank you tomparkafterdark and @cid.er.ella for sparking this process thank you @stonemountainfabric for carrying the perfect pink linen blend thank you @susankhalje for teaching me your couture ways #cosplay #himemiyaanthy #anthyhimemiya #revolutionarygirlutena #RGU #couturesewing #couturedressmaking #dressmaking #couture

I managed to get the straight run from beginning through March 1998. I believe there are some extra chapters that were added later but I have no clue when they were published. Utena has a special place in my heart since for more than 20 years now and this costume is really precious to me. I wanted to take my time to make it, and life got in the way...
