How about a common carpenter ant species? Camponotus novaeboracensis. These girls are black with a red thorax which is pretty cool. They are also a big, slow growing species which makes them great for people just starting out in the hobby. Despite what I said about the F. bradleyi, these are my favourite ants. Crematogaster cerasi/lineolata. They are also known as acrobat ants and are really good climbers! This is a queen ant in the genus Myrmica. These ants are pretty small with workers under 5mm usually.
