The Auld Alliance was an alliance made in 1295 between the kingdoms of Scotland and France for the purpose of controlling England’s numerous invasions. The Scots word auld, meaning old, has become a partly affectionate term for the long-lasting association between the two countries. Although the alliance was never formally revoked, it is considered by some to have ended with the signing of the Treaty of Edinburgh in 1560. The ancient version of the tartan features the colors of both nations, with blue and green representing Scotland, and white and red representing France. In recent years, a modern version of the Auld Alliance Tartan has emerged, with a fresh color palette of rich blues and greys. We proudly wear this modern tartan, honoring our Scottish roots while while also paying homage to the colors that have long defined our great city. The Auld Alliance is a representation of our band’s unwavering mission of serving the City of Memphis and its surrounding areas through the promotion and growth of Celtic Heritage throughout the community.
