The Chamantad-Tiñan Viewpoint is probably my top spot in Batanes. I thought I’d see lush green grass, but maybe because of the heat it was turning brown when we got here. This color change gave the place a unique feel and I think it’s just stunning no matter the weather.
Here at Basco Cathedral because for me a trip to a new province in the Philippines would not be complete without visiting one of its churches. Unlike most of the countries in East and Southeast Asia, the Philippines is mostly Catholic. It is remarkable that even the northernmost and smallest province in the Philippines, Batanes, was introduced to Christianity during the Spanish colonization in the country. The Basco Cathedral is a stunning example of this rich cultural heritage, with its exterior adorned in golden yellow and showcasing a traditional Baroque design. Despite being damaged in a 2000 earthquake, the cathedral was reconstructed to its original design under the guidance of Bishop Jose Salazar, O.P, and was completed in 2011.

A visit to Tayid Lighthouse in Batanes on a beautiful morning taking in this amazing view. With all that green grass, a cow running around, the lighthouse behind me, and the beautiful sea, my friend playfully commented, "Parang Batanes!" Totally, I concur with a laugh 😆

📍 Vunong Dinette My favorite restaurant for our day 1 here in Batanes. They serve organic, stove to table, traditional Ivatan dishes. Only catch is you have to reserve beforehand before coming here since they don’t accept walk-ins. 1 - beef soup 2 - Vunong, an Ivatan rice meal wrapped in leaves called kabaya. Almost similar to binalot. The owner of the restaurant told us that vunong also means sharing of food to people who are special to you. 3 - The inside of the Vunong. Fried fish, fish balls, pork chop, tapa, and turmeric rice. 4 - They also served us this salad. Almost similar to atchara. 5 - Their salad. The mango was sooo sweet! 6 - Fried kamote dessert!
