We had the pleasure of testing out @xforceexhaust Prototype Twin Scroll Unequal Length Headers for the 2022+ WRX platform… definitely a mod for those who love the Subaru RUMBLE! The test mule was Neil’s Rally Blue VB WRX pre-equipped with a PW Intake, charge pipe, and top mount intercooler, as well as a full Xforce Varex Turbo back exhaust system. We Tuned this vehicle with the factory equal length headers making 228.5KW and 463dNM (692NM) at the wheels on 98ron fuel on 19.5psi of boost. The Team at @hengs.garage fitted up the Xforce Twin Scroll UnEqual Length Headers, then we put it back on the dyno making no changes to the Tune. It made 231.5KW and 447dNM (669NM) ATW. Yes, the vehicle made a little bit less torque with the UEL (unequal) Headers and spool is slightly slower causing power and torque to hit a few hundred rpm later than the factory EL (equal length) headers… but that is to be expected as Twin Scroll Turbos always work best with equal length headers. From our experience, running UEL Headers, will cause a Twin Scroll Turbo to behave more like a single scroll, and this was no exception. The 3KW difference in power was due to the cooler air temps when on the dyno with the UEL Headers. Power and torque on both headers are near identical once beyond 4500rpm as the restriction of the turbine wheel comes into effect… and this is where upgraded turbos with larger turbine wheels will shine, like on our own VB WRX with the factory headers making 250KW ATW on 98ron. Those who are after the infamous Subaru Rumble from their VB WRXs and are not concerned with a little loss in torque and transient response, look no further! We also see this as a good fit for CVT/SPT owners as the lower torque and response will be beneficial to transmission longevity, especially once Tuned. Please check out the attached dyno sheets. ***Exhaust mod update - PLM header and Mr. Turbo Overpipe*** For those who don't know, the FA20D engines suffer from a torque dip between 3500rpm to 4500rpm. It's quite severe on the performance so these Unequal Length Headers or UEL headers aids by lifting the torque in the rpm range totally clearing it and making the car much more responsive and adds power. I decided to go with the @privatelabelmfg UEL headers for my build since it's not a common option in South Africa. Most guys either go with Tomei or a locally produced header but I'm all about being different and trying new things. Furthermore, PLM describes it as the best value UEL header on the market. It is a true 4-1 header with a merge collector at the end and this is the V2 version which utilizes bellow joints for 100% leak free, long term durability. Furthermore, they claim 28 wheel horsepower and 14 foot pounds of torque, which sounds rather exciting. Also, retaining that beautiful boxer rumble signature sound that Subaru's are known for. Since I am going forced induction, I have sent the parts away to have them ceramic coated by Powerkote which will reduce the heat tremendously in the engine bay area but possibly also add a further 4 to 8 horsepower as claimed by the company. I will post and share some pictures as soon as it returns before fitment and do a before and after sound clip. An S203 alcantara owner's manual case with s203 instruction manual inside. - The S203 came with quite a bit of adjustability out of the factory with dampers and the rear wing.
