#breakfastTapes. Somehow i think this is the first time ive heard this album. I think i like it better than all the other WAR albums ive heard. Another exceptionally good-sounding 3.75ips tape.
This one took a long time to find for a reasonable price but well worth the wait. Sound quality is exceptional for a 3.75ips tape. IIRC there is also a Jack Johnson tape in existence, but i havent yet heard of an On The Corner surfacing. Who knows. #breakfasttapes

#breakfastTapes. Heres a rare one. 2nd and final LP from #earthOpera, #davidgrisman ‘s Boston-area psych band before he was famous. They toured as opener for The Doors. V underrated album IMO; their first LP is sold as well.
#breakfastTapes. A way better album than u would expect. One of those $3 LPs that gets slept on. Take a listen to “Nubia” and “Deaths Reply.” U will be surprised. Whole thing is a great listen from top to bottom.
#breakfastTapes I dont know much about Taj Mahal. I think he started his career in a group w/ Ry Cooder. He was a young guy when he recorded this #davidrubinson -produced solo album around 1970 performing traditional material in what was already an old-fashioned style. Totally convincing tho. If it wasnt for the perfect fidelity, you would believe that this was recorded in the 1930s. Also: one of the best-sounding factory 3.75 IPS tapes ive ever heard.
#breakfastTapes. The album that spawned a million imitators. It can be hard to ‘hear’ this album as it is so foundational. But its hard to beat, on most any level of assessment. Sounds great on 1/4”.
#breakfastTapes. Bonnie in discrete quadraphonic 7.5IPS. Ill need to drag out the quad deck and some more speakers to really experience it but cool to hear nonetheless. Very underrated artist IMO and one of the very few whos catalog was mixed expressly for quad release. Ive had the LPs for years but those are matrixed; this promises to be a real 4-channel mix. #breakfastTapes. This is a v weird and cool one thats pretty uncommon even on vinyl, and… its gotta be one of the the very few 1/4” copies in existence. #thefamilyofapostolic. An eclectic and genuinely weird “they-let-the-producer-release-a-record” from Vanguard. The producer in this case being one #johnTownley, a name which was unfamiliar to me until i found this tape. Even my knowledge of his #ApostolicStudios was scant- i was only conscious of it via the early #larryCoryell records ive bought recently. Anyhow, slide thru for a condensed read of his discography and (fascinating) wikipedia bio, which i suggest you read in full. This was certainly a dude who had his finger on some of the coolest, druggiest, most inside stuff coming outta NYC in the late 60s. Anyone here done any work with him? Pray tell… #apostolicstudios
1967. And forever. Its not rock music. Im not sure what it is, even after 35 years of listening to this band. Its incredible to me that a band this weird and un categorizable became one of the top groups of the era. I know that a lot of ppl, ppl with good taste included, *hate* this band, but this stuff will always be pure magic to me. #breakfastTapes

This one has been top-of-the-list ever since i developed this peculiar media-format predilection. In their wisdom the TapeGods even took care to make it a 7.5 IPS tape. Does not disappoint, not one bit. Ive said it many many times before but i will say it again: this album is the greatest sleeper in the classic rock genre. Unbelievably good and totally unique- and yet still a $1 to $8 get (on vinyl, at least). “Trust me.” #breakfastTapes

#breakfastTapes Motown tapes have the most consistent quality. Most have the same quality at 3.75ips that other labels’ 7.5 ips offerings have. Like most, they were duplicated by AMPEX, so the quality must have come from another factor- better QC? Better masters? Fewer intermediary dupes? Just better overall engineering from the get go? Dunno. Maybe all of the above…. Regardless, its a real gift to be able to hear these songs, these performances, this production, ‘again for the first time.’ Makes up for all the expense and hassle of this format.
