Today is another special day. A dream collaboration. We are honored to announce our collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts. In the summer of 1974, at the invitation of Andy Warhol, Marsha P. Johnson went to Andy Warhol’s studio space, the factory – then located on Union Square – where she sat initially for Polaroid portraits, one of which was used as source material for a silkscreen painting. These works of Warhol social commentary were part of a series depicting drag queens and trans women entitled: Ladies and Gentlemen. Bob Colacello, editor of Interview, and longtime Warhol friend and collaborator recruited the subjects from the Gilded Grape in Greenwich Village. Ladies and Gentlemen, the series, has been called provocative, ambiguous, and direct and it maintains the gender fluidity and beauty of each subject – in art as in life. Animal Crossing, a social simulation game, could not be more Warholian. It mirrors culture and society and fosters creativity through the creation of avatars, and it is unlimited in its expression. Marsha P. Johnson led us to Andy Warhol, and today we are incredibly honored to announce our collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation of the Visual Arts. In our upcoming Animal Crossing virtual runway show, we will present avatar garments inspired by Warhol’s Polaroids and artwork of Marsha P. Today is a special day. I’m going to begin sharing with you a very personal project I’ve been working on for the past month. I have had the honor of partnering with The Marsha P. Johnson Institute to create a virtual show on the popular Nintendo game Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The virtual show will feature model avatars walking the runway in my most recent collection. My collaboration with Marsha P. Johnson stems from my history of having a shop in NYC’s Lower East Side, and East Village, where Marsha P. fought so hard for the human rights of the LGBTQ community. It’s with the support of these communities and of so many artists that has inspired me to grow my brand with a sense of individuality and personal freeedom.
