Main Board My new permanent number one board built around the Caveman Audio BP1 and Doc Lloyd DLA-2A. This is the happiest I’ve ever been with a big board. It achieves exactly what I wanted it to and the sound quality is incredible. The entire pedal chain, with the exception of the Element for headphone practice, sits in the BP1’s effects loop to take advantage of the professional grade buffers. Coupled with the DLA-2A, Doc Lloyd Audio’s recreation of the LA-2A, this pedalboard is as close to playing into a full studio setup as I can imagine achieving with a pedalboard. I use a lot of flanger and delay effects and I was keen to make a prominent place for the AMT AFG-1 and ADG-1 SE. I have also set the board up so I can run both octave into fuzz and fuzz into octave. Once I started putting the board together I noticed that it was taking on a black, gold and relic-style appearance and I tried to lean into that. I’m excited about this board and I would love to write more about it, however, I need to go and play it! Adicionalmente es una caja directa con calidad de estudio de grabación ya no tendrás que usar una caja directa de baja calidad que terminan reduciendo la calidad del audio. Big Box Compressors I had been waiting for the latest batch of DLA-2As to be released because I intend to use it as a cornerstone pedal on a new board. With its arrival last week I thought it would be a good time to test my big box compressors to see which preamp I most like pairing them with. Following testing, I’ve ultimately decided to stick rather than twist so have retained my Noble and Cali-76 combo on my Clean Board, which I keep on my desktop for recording and practice. The Noble powers the Cali-76 at 18v so the transformer is engaged. I just love that tone. Steen Skrydstrup at Caveman very kindly modified my BP1 so it could power my BC1 but, for the last few months, I’ve been using the BC1 on my European Board with a Jad Freer Capo and that is where it is staying. That board features only European manufacturers and no manufacturer is featured more than once, which is why the BP1 and BC1 are not being used together despite pairing perfectly. The DLA-2A is a truly beautiful pedal and was absolutely worth the wait. I tested it in the BP1’s loop at the end of my chain (save for the reverb) and the result was an unreasonably good tone for a pedal set-up. The plan for this week is to fully assemble the new board once the remaining cables arrive. For those interested, I’ve posted about the Cali-76 on my @admiralchew account and expect to write more about the BC1 and DLA-2A there soon. This is an EMI Filtered Power Interface, equipped with two IEC feeds as well as two 9vDC outputs for pedals and such. The power input accepts 115 or 230 volt operation. Whatever input voltage is being supplied is what will be applied to the two IEC feeds. Both 9vDC outputs are fitted with beefy capacitors to cancel out any other interference and can each safely provide up to 200mA of current. This utility device is especially helpful for powering pedalboards and additional outboard effect pedals. The first sale of Mood Systems! This is a rehousing of an MXR Dynacomp compressor (newer block logo) along with a modification done to it as well. Though many seek to add more bass content with the Dynacomp, this client had a unique request to reduce the amount of bass coming from the pedal, as he uses a monstrous Rickenbacker guitar. I accomplished this by adding a toggle switch and set it up so that the standard "down" position engages the low cut (high-pass) and the "up" position brings it back to the stock configuration. I wired it this way due to the client stating that he will be using the pedal with the low cut always engaged. An output buffer has also been added for clean signal flow, as well as an ultra-bright LED. Here's another "Proof Of Concept" unit - this one holds two BK Butler Tube Drivers, each carrying a different tube (Stock Ruby 12AX7 and NOS Mullard 12AU7 as labeled above the controls). The two Tube Drivers are selectable via the "1 -- 2" toggle footswitch. The signal passes through an output buffer before leaving the unit and the AC power input has been conditioned with an EMI filter. Ultra-quiet inlet and outlet fans are also featured to keep internal temperatures under control for the tubes. The fans can be turned off thanks to a toggle switch at the rear. Ultra-bright LEDs have also been utilized to diminish any uncertainty regarding which Tube Driver is engaged.
