We had the immense pleasure of being asked to fabricate a custom award for @faith_christian_school 's Roanoke Valley Leadership Series, the Inspire Roanoke award. The award this year was being given to Mr. Bob Kinsey, the designer and builder of the iconic Roanoke Star that sits atop Mill Mountain! Because of who the award was being given to, we wanted to create something truly special, so we set to work making essentially a scale model of the Roanoke Star! Sadly, Mr. Kinsey passed away before he was able to accept the award, but the Kinsey family showed up the the breakfast in force and his daughter Nancy accepted the award on his behalf. . The precision of our @shopsabre CNC plasma table was really put to the test on this project. We cut out the "scaffolding" grid frame from 1/8" steel plate leaving 1/8" members, very delicate work! We then cut out the concentric star pieces from 1/4" stainless and @aaronalexander_____ set to work polishing them to a brilliant shine! Everything was assembled and clear coated and then it was time for the plaque! We used our @creality3d Falcon 2 laser engraver to engrave a custom message on some 18ga stainless which we then rolled and riveted to the base of the award. . The guys all went out to the ceremony to represent Lift Arc and had a great time talking to the Kinsey family.
