May is for Makers - Day 3! Why? I won’t deny I struggled with this one for a moment. Been a while since I really thought about it hard core. But I can honestly say, seeing the reactions we get from everything we make whether it’s something we’re selling, giving to a guest who’s at an event we’re at, or Wally. It’s just an amazing and incredible experience to have. With our business we’re always growing and trying to come up with something new to try or experiment with. The why there is to hopefully do this full time at some point in the future. Wally is probably one of the main reasons I want to get in the shop as much as possible. He loves helping and learning along with me about everything that’s possible in the shop. Probably why he’s named about 90% of all the tools in the shop at this point. (Spin, Spidey and Ghosty are the top three of course.) Being able to show him at such a young age that anything is possible if you put your mind to it and think it through is also a huge why. I want him to grow up knowing he can do anything he wants or puts his mind to. At the rate we’re going it’s probably going to be driving cars pretty fast. But that’s a whole other topic. Another reason for the why, woodworking is a way to honor my papa who was a carpenter for longer than I probably realize even to this day. He may have passed away when I was around Wally’s age, but he definitely had a huge impact and influence on my life. (Wally is half named after him and my nanny.) Lastly, woodworking became an escape for me at one point when my health was rather questionable. We’re actually past the seven year mark now from my last TIA or minor stroke, which is kinda amazing to think about really. We never completely figured out the exact causes of them, but three in just over a two year period was a bit interesting. Plus, today happens to be my 36th birthday and there was a time I didn’t think I’d make it to 30. So thanks again for the birthday wishes and all that. Think that’s enough of a why for now. These kyanites are really something special! I have hoarded all these lovely minty/teal/turquoisey stones for years, like a great sea serpent sitting atop a pile of ocean gems. And now, seeing them set and ready to be plucked is so exciting! There will be petite subtle beauties, as well as bold ones that pack a punch. As such, they will be primarily priced according to stone size. Do keep in mind that kyanite is a very crackly stone and some, if not most, have surface quirks. For a design thinking experience, fourth grade students wanted to engage in helping our community. They were posed with the question: How might we create something to better the Hawken community? Students brainstormed two ideas: incorporate sustainability and gardening by designing and creating pallet planters with perennials and vegetables to be used in the cafeteria. encouraging Fair Play, athleticism and cooperation by creating and building soccer goals for our Courtyard. Students experienced the design process and aspects of mastery learning through designing, prototyping and iterating, interviewing community members, and fabricating. Today was our build day. Our students were so engaged and excited during this process. We completed our soccer goals and will finish the pallet planters next week!

Viele Jahre war es mein Hobby und Nebenberuf, Hochzeiten & Events als Mobiler DJ mit eigener Licht & Tontechnik dafür zu sorgen das die Tanzfläche bebt und die Stimmung & Atmosphäre allen Gästen und Gastgebern lange in guter Erinnerung bleibt. Im Laufe der letzten 3 Jahre stellten sich bei mir jedoch seltsame Krankheitsbilder und Körperliche Probleme ein von denen man lange nicht wusste was es ist. Dann vor ca. 3 Monaten die Endgültige Diagnose: Multiple Sklerose (MS). Körperlich bin ich mittlerweile nicht mehre in der Lage meine Technik als DJ alleine zu Transportieren, geschweige denn auf & Abzubauen. ENDFAZIT: Wenn sich Lebensumstände ändern dann wird es vielleicht auch Zeit drumherum etwas zu ändern. Also Zeit für ein neues Hobby und ein Ende als Hochzeits & Event DJ. Die Vorbereitungen laufen und ich freue mich auf das was kommt.
