I went through and did my signature reverse balayage placement on her to create soft shadows in her mid zone and then used a shade roughly 1 level darker than my lowlight formula to stretch her root and melt away old foil lines. I like to think about hair maintenance under the lens of three different categories: โ .โ 1. The amount of time you spend DAILY. For example: if youโre rocking a cute little pixie like I was two years ago- youโre going to be styling your hair EVERYDAY. It may only take 10 minutes, but it is frequent.โ 2. The amount of time you can get away with in between appointments. My balayage ladies that wear their natural roots with lightened pieces throughout their hair? They see me every 8-12 weeks! โ 3. So you get your hair done (by me), we snap 1K+ photos of your masterpiece, you hop in your car to drive home.. โ โ Hereโs what the next 48 hours should look like in your aftercare:โ .โ 1. You take a maskless selfie and tag me!โ 2. Do not, I repeat, do NOT wash your hair. Enjoy that killer second day hair that someone else styled for you- spritz some dry shampoo at your root before you go to sleep, and rock that new look all the way through that 48 hour mark before you hit the showers. (I mean, hit that shower if you need to sister, just leave your hair in a pony).โ 3. When water DOES hit your hair for the first time since your shampoo at the salon, make sure you are shampooing with professional grade shampoo and conditioner. A good rule of thumb: if your shampoo is cheap, the ingredients to make the shampoo is cheap. Cheap doesnโt serve your beautiful, and letโs be real here, expensive, color!โ 4. Can we talk about why your curling iron is making your curls look like youโre going to prom?โ โ Spoiler alert: itโs probably not your curling irons fault. โ โ Spoiler alert part two: Iโm going to take 3 minutes of your transform your prom curls into beachy textured waves.โ โ First things first: perfectly silky hair is going to be an issue. If you are freshly washed, conditioned, and blow dried, weโre going to need texture spray, and weโre going to need a lot of it. (currently obsessed over @elevenaustralia Dry Finish Texture Sprayโ โ Second: Take a peak at the length of your hair. Youโve got the stuff right at the root- donโt pay attention to that. Next up, the middle section- pay LOTS of attention to that. Third, your ends. Now your ends should spend the least amount of time touching heat- they are old and fragile, so treat them accordingly. But that mid section- thatโs where the magic happens. โ โ Third: Donโt finger rake through your hair until it has returned to room temperature. โ I put in three applications the week I graduated Cosmetology school.โ โ The first: European Wax Center. (I know, I know, shocker!). I LOVE waxing (those of you that generously sing my praises for taking care of your brows know how excited I get every time you ask me to clean up your brows!)โ โ Second? @localsbarbershop- which I still have QUITE a love for, and refer many male guests their way for the best fades in town!โ โ Third, and where I landed- a gorgeous salon downtown for an apprenticeship under one of the hair color Godโs himself. I know youโre a brilliant, highly functioning individual, but I want to take a minute to spell out the specifics of something we frequently overlook.โ โ Thereโs an actual correct strategy in shampooing your hair, and I want to take a minute to break it down for you in the steps Iโd like to see each and every woman taking when approaching their next trip to the shower.โ โ 1. Rinse your hair with warm (not hot) waterโ 2. Squeegee excess water from your hair, and stand outside of the range of your shower head while you apply your shampooโ 3. Once you squeeze the appropriate amount of shampoo in your hands, work the shampoo across your hands before applying it to your hairโ 4. Dive into your application starting at the root, and work to apply your formula from the nape of your neck to your hairline across your forehead. โ 5. Massage your shampoo in while scrubbing your scalp. Take your time here. Donโt leave any spots untouched on your scalpโ 6. Rinse until there are no bubbles left, and then repeat if necessary โ 7. Once cleansed, repeat step two to prepare your hair for your conditionerโ 8. Apply your conditioner from your ends up. Your hands should be distributing the remainder of the product left on them once they reach your scalp.โ 9. Leave your conditioner on while your shave your legs, wash your face, etc. Most conditioners ask for 2-4 minutes to work their magic *bonus: this is a great time to work out tangled with a wide toothed combโ 10. Rinse with warm water. I like to think about hair maintenance under the lens of three different categories: โ .โ 1. The amount of time you spend DAILY. For example: if youโre rocking a cute little pixie like I was last year- youโre going to be styling your hair EVERYDAY. It may only take 10 minutes, but it is frequent.โ 2. The amount of time you can get away with in between appointments. My balayage ladies that wear their natural roots with lightened pieces throughout their hair? They see me every 8-12 weeks! โ 3.
