Do be mindful that Crested Geckos are able to walk up vertical surfaces, such as walls, so take extra care when they are being handled outside their enclosure. 🦎 If they are spooked, they can also shed their whole tail as a natural defence mechanism. Whilst this isn’t detrimental to their health, you should avoid getting into this situation as much as possible. 👉 Take time for your Crestie to get used to your hand being around them in their enclosure 👉 Start introducing them to handling whilst they are young 👉 Allow your Crestie to climb on your hand, or gently lift them from underneath 👉 Do not make sudden movements or loud noises so that they don’t feel threatened 👉 Make sure that you do not pull or trap their tail, as this can instigate shedding Many geckos shed their tails to keep themselves safe in the wild. November is Pet Diabetes Month, dedicated to raising awareness of this chronic disease in our furry friends. 🐶🐈 In diabetic pets, either the pancreas is unable to produce enough insulin, or the cells become resistant to its effect, sometimes both. As insulin is responsible for keeping blood sugar levels in check, the blood sugar concentration is much higher than it should be. Over time, this leads to organ damage that can, sometimes, be irreversible. This is why reaching a diagnosis at an early stage is so important. Common clinical signs of diabetes include increased thirst, urination and appetite, but pets tend to lose weight. You may also notice they don't seem to have as much energy as before. If you recognise any of the mentioned signs, talk to us!
