Triple Print Color 126 Cartridge Film. Many thanks to my friend Tynan @oldschoolcameraguy who wanted to see if I could coax images out of this 1971 roll of Instamatic 126 film. (Check out his amazing account to see vintage cameras and his own work with expired film!) Expired in the last years of C22 process film (similar to Kodacolor-X), these types of film don’t age well if not cold stored. So I shot this roll in an Argus Instant Load 270, a metal higher-end Instamatic camera, with adjustable apertures. Set at f2.8 with an estimated 1/90 shutter speed, I went out on a sunny day. Based on tips from very experienced expired film developer Troy @vintage_film_photographer, I developed this C22 film with C41 chemistry at 69 degrees F for 20 minutes with minimal agitation. The foggy, ghostly images posted here are the results. Adding lots of contrast in Photoshop Elements, Photos 1 & 2 were scanned using the color negative setting, and Photos 3 and 4 were scanned with the b&w setting. It's pretty magical documenting a new human made by two people in love whose love you also had the honor of documenting. My favorite family photos are much similar to my favorite wedding photos in the sense that they are always the ones that I think anyone random person that didn't know you would still print huge on their wall. They are art more than anything else. You can feel them. Be in them. Slide one and ten are those for me.

F A M I L Y ❤️ I am going to be sharing a few recent family sessions in honor of our first personal family photos since Hulúh learned how to walk. We were lucky enough to have photos taken of us sort of a tropical day in the life by the one and only Yan and it is always such a trip for me to be on the other side of the camera. Documenting families became so, so much more fun and fulfilling to me once I had him. Those moments became even more important to capture because I know that every single day something about them changes. I mean we are never truly the same person we were the day before, but with kids it is absolutely wild to see unfolding before your very eyes. There's even a little cameo of Hulúh in his pijamas in this set as anyone with a small child knows if you bring them along they will be in at least one.

Just the most amazing farm to table wedding deliciousness at the restaurant that started THE food revolution @chezpanisse. I first ate at Alice Waters’ restaurant on our maiden trip down to Mexico 18 years ago when we drove cross country camping in National Parks along the way. I was 25 and felt so out of place with the fancy Berkeley brunch crowd so to come back to it almost twenty years later with these absolute gems of human beings was particularly special. My parents had a restaurant for 26 years (I was born nine months after opening night) and all of my first jobs were in it (I was a pro at putting salt and pepper shakers on the tables at 3 years old). Eventually I made my way to other restaurants and had the pleasure of working with James Beard nominated chefs and super talented restauranteurs. It was restaurants that eventually allowed me to work in the insanity that was Sydney, Australia during the Olympics and learn how to speak Spanish years later when I waited tables in San Pancho upon arrival. I will forever be more comfortable in the back of the house compared to at a table and it was a joy to be surrounded by the industry at this wedding. I can't wait to do it all again in a few weeks in LA. All of the cameras. All of the film. All of the food. All of the love.
