On March 2nd, also known as “3/2 Day,” @daiyoshihara hosted a pop-up JDM celebration at @bowls called the Little Tokyo Skyline Meeting. Despite a rare rainstorm in Southern California, hundreds of enthusiasts gathered to see his 750hp R33 Skyline GT-R built in collaboration with @greddyperformance, @toprankimporters, and @turn14 squeezed inside the Bowls retail space, and the multi-generational line of GT-Rs that doubled parked their block in the streets of Little Tokyo. Some of the favorite visitors included @lusciousy’s white R33, @rod_knee’s R34 sedan, and @super_r33’s R33, which was featured at our @gridicons_ GTR celebration last year. Badass cars were undoubtedly a big draw, but what the Little Tokyo Skyline Meeting really accomplished was bringing the community together in a casual way outside of your typical car show or car meet. With Dai as the host, he hung out with fans all night chatting it up and making new friends. For those who wanted to remember the night further, Dai sold a limited number of @kaidohouse toys and Bowls-exclusive GReddy collab tees, while posing for hundreds of photos. Dai has an insanely busy schedule this year with his new endeavor into the @imsa_racing Michelin Pilot Challenge road racing series, but it’s chill and welcoming events like the Little Tokyo Skyline Meeting that demonstrate his enthusiasm for car culture and appreciation for his fans. Last week the #93 Pit+Paddock FL5 Civic Type R TCR got its second chance to shine, this time at #SebringInternationalRaceway. The formidable driver pairing, @daiyoshihara and @karlwittmer, combined their powers to secure a P8 finish and a bump up to 6th place in the IMPC championship 📈 After earning a P8 start in qualifying, Dai Yoshihara swiftly stole 7th place before a hectic fight up to P3, ending with a P5 dive into the pits for a pivotal driver swap. As luck would have it, a seatbelt error during the driver change set us behind and the following cautions weren’t kind to the #93’s strategy. Still, resilience was fresh on the brain from Daytona and Wittmer soon proved that pace was the Ace up his sleeves. He was one of the fastest cars in the field during the second half and he clawed the #93 Pit+Paddock FL5 Civic Type R TCR back into the top 10 with only two laps left 😮💨 After Friday’s race, we sat down with @mtlmtrsprtgrp to reflect on race week, and hear what it’s like from the inside. Sebring Race Recap 🏎️🌴 @daiyoshihara started the race in 8th position in the @pitandpaddock #93 car. He showed a stellar performance behind the wheel keeping the car super clean and moving it up to 3rd. He gave @karlwittmer a perfect car for his stint to finish the race. The unlucky driver change had both drivers struggling with some twisted belts, which cost them 19 seconds in the pits. This put the 93 at the back of field, but Karl did an amazing job at bringing it up a few positions with the quickest TCR pace in the last 30 minutes of the race and was able to finish in 8th place. The #6 @lombardihonda car started the race in 5th with @lpmontour in the driver seat who showed great pace and speed. Following a pit stop round, he came out leading the TCR race. However, while leading, a risky move by the car in P2 caused a contact which took him out and resulted in damages to the car and a flat tire. The much-needed pit stop to change the flat and to execute the driver change, had @bryanoracing jump in and take the wheel. Despite the car’s ABS failure caused by the contact, Bryan did an outstanding job keeping the #6 car on track and was able to complete the race in 12th. Seat time at @sebringraceway taught me a lot this week and I'm proud to have kept my driving clean during qualifying and the first half of the race before handing the driving off to @karlwittmer. I'm so thankful to the incredibly supportive @mtlmtrsprtgrp team; they have been amazing and helped my teammate and I pull off a solid comeback drive to finish 8th. There was a lot to be happy about despite everything Sebring had to throw at us, including moving up to 6th in the championship. Friday signified our @daytona debut with @mtlmtrsprtgrp in the @imsa_racing Michelin Pilot Sport Challenge... here’s how it went; 🔽 Under @karlwittmer’s command, the @pitandpaddock FL5 Civic Type R TCR qualified in P2, and quickly secured P1 not even five minutes after the green flag. A routine pit stop at 2:57 was coupled with a driver swap, and @daiyoshihara was able to log the first laps of his IMSA debut. By the halfway mark, Dai inherited first place while a majority of the TCR field dived into the pit lane during another full-course caution; however, a wave-by penalty was soon to be served — one that likely resulted from a persistent radio failure. Wittmer, Yoshihara, and the Montreal Motorsport Group’s resilience made most of the situation. Two more full course cautions helped tighten the field again and the #93 car, under Wittmer’s command, crossed the finish line in 7th. Our first @imsa_racing Michelin Pilot Challenge race at @daytona was intense! 😮💨 Our #93 @pitandpaddock Civic Type R FL5 TCR started on the front row but a radio issue caused it to have a delayed start. The ongoing communication problem resulted in penalties and put the car in 14th place. Despite these problems, @karlwittmer and @daiyoshihara were able to battle back, finish in 7th place and gain valuable points for the championship 💪🏼 Our #6 @lombardihonda Type R piloted by @bryanoracing & @lpmontour started the race in 6th position and was off to a great start. Following a restart, Canadian driver Montour led the race for a few laps but an unfortunate and unpredictable technical issue caused the car to retire from the race and return to the garage. We are incredibly thankful of @hondaracing_us and @jas.motorsport technical support. Yesterday was day one of practice for my first race in IMSA and it was nothing short of a learning experience ✍️ Driving for a new team, in a new car, on a new track, in a new series is no easy act to juggle, but I am more confident than ever going into day two.
