This morning , I had the pleasure of guiding George who won a roebuck stalk here at Mulgrave Estate that was donated to the Gamekeepers Welfare Trust charity auction. We had a busy morning trying to catch up with this chap, when the time came to take the shot George did me proud at 180 meters!... using his tikka 243 and hornady ammunition. This is not only his first buck but also his first deer! So the obligatory 'blooding' took place and we got the deer back to the larder. Not content on just shooting it, under my guidance he then skinned the deer to take home to get butchered. All in all it was an enjoyable morning and one I'm sure George will remember for a long time. Continuing with the estate deer cull, this evening was a successful one with both a younger cull animal and an older animal with abnormal antler formation. The usual equipment was used as was my canine company, all performed admirably yet again!. Different patch this afternoon.... bumped this doe, but it stopped at 111 yards..... the rws evo green in 6.5 creedmoor did its thing. Brilliant ammunition and superbly accurate in my rifle.... you can see the shards on the exit wound, the deer dropped on the spot. A bit of range time today testing ammo and brushing up my skills, I've not had much trigger time recently so need to ge ready for the doe cull. My trusted rws evo-Green is still doing the business out of the 308 and the creedmoor... but I had the opportunity to try some new sako lead free ammo and happy with the results (on paper at least)...
