Sooooo. Plan A was a failure as the top ramps were too steep and the car would ground! So onto Plan B. Lifted the Door bracket up 8" so that it reduces the internal ramp angle. Well Cadillac Big Block is back from having major surgery after we lost the top of a piston on the Dyno! We've gone the whole Hog and have Big Forged pistons bored .080", BP ConRods, S500 Race cam from Cadco. High pressure oil pump, Holley 750cfm Double Pumper and heavyweight flex plate. Hopefully we should have the engine back in Krafty Kermit tomorrow. OK so not gone Chevy on you all as I still love my Cadillac's - but Rebellious had a poorly SBC engine so I bought a replacement Small Block and....that turned out to have a major fault aswell !!! Decided if I'm to have a Chevy V8 then why not go the whole Hog and go BIG! So We've started to gather new parts for our 475Ci Overbored Stroker Big Block Chevy! Well today has been a very busy day. Up to EDA to collect the correct oil pickup pipe for the new sump. The Zoomie headers, although look and sound nice are strangling the engine, so time to dust off and paint the 4 into 1 headers. So with the world shortage on Cadillac valve lifters, I decided it was time to do some basic maths! Everyone said that the Chevy Small Block and Big Block were different to a 500ci Cadillac lifter(totally). So....look on the first photo and guess(its written on the piece of paper if you struggle). So same heigh and diameter. The internals are the same, so what's the difference? From the top of the lifter to the top of the piston(in the lifter...not the engine!) the measurement is 8.13mm in the Chevy, and 7.18mm on the Caddy.....so 0.95mm difference in height. So with the standard pushrods there was a rattle as there was a millimeter gap and No preload. New longer 10.198" push rods allow a .040" preload and problemo solved! My Stage 1 rocker setup with the new big cam will work a treat, thanks to Chevy bits! Not much to report.....Rebellious strip down to sort out the oil leaks that were 'pissing like a racehorse!' So New billet camchain cover and gaskets. Sump on tomorrow, but it looks like the harmonic balancer is toast! Massive wear groove that won't help oil retention. So after faffing yesterday putting the new Transbrake on the Rebellious Transmission I remembered we had a small oil leak on the rear axle. So off the axle came-right onto my foot! Turns out the axles fine but the leak was eeking out by the splines on the coupling. So we were at halfway point on the Transmission being removed, and as we needed some new Clutch plates, out that came too! Well today was Transmission Day. 2x TH400 boxes to recon and fit CK Performance Reverse Pattern Manual valve blocks. New plates, steels, seals and gaskets. Well we've had to undo everything we did last week! Changed back to the small dolly wheels but fitted 4X4 tyres on them to give it the height not to ground whilst going in. And instead of extending the trailer, we're just going to fit a box on the rear door to cover up the tyres. Wish I'd thought this through before I started chopping it up! Well the New trailer underwent some major surgery today! The small dolly wheels would allow the car to fit but still required the trailer to be extended by 12" so decided to extend the trailer by 15" and allow the BIG Tyres in. Didn't quite realise how much chopping I'd need to do. Looking at my Grandsons face he was probably thinking "Grandad you must be crazy chopping up a perfectly good trailer!".....I was thinking that myself. Needs Must.
