Have you been to the Queen’s Hamlet at the Palace of Versailles⁉️ Amazingly, this is a site that many people miss because it seems “ just a bit out of the way”. That might just make this one of the palace’s best kept secrets. 😉 The Queen’s Hamlet was built for Queen Marie Antoinette. So, don’t let the rustic exteriors fool you, many of the interiors were often lavishly decorated. Here, the queen was able to host small gatherings of visitors. But, it is important to note that some of the buildings were actually used for farming purposes. After the French Revolution, the hamlet fell into a state of disrepair. Through the efforts of Napoleon in the early 1800’s and a donation by John Rockefeller in the early 1900’s, much of it was reconstructed. In 2006, the farm was also rebuilt and houses a number of animals. Which picture of the hamlet do you like the most? If you happen to be in Bergen, a Norwegian Fjord Tour down the UESCO World Heritage site of Nærøyfjord is an absolute must. It is a particularly picturesque branch of the larger Sognefjord. Our boat ride was slow, smooth, and peaceful (no loud engine noises). It gave us plenty of time to soak in the beauty of the landscape before our arrival in the picturesque village of Flåm.
