We're getting close to a finish! ✨ I substituted the over one eyes for mill hill beads (03011) and I love the way they catch the light and add a touch of gentle dimension. I had stitched the adult male's eye as charted but it didn't stand out enough for me, so I'm stoked I had these beads on hand. The only challenge is I had to open a mill hill 🎅🏽 kit to use them, and now I want to start it! My glue gun has been working overtime 😆. I was finally able to find exactly what I needed (it was practically under my nose the whole time 🙄) to FFO Santa Baby by It’s So Emma. This finish was inspired by @fiestystitcher , but I wanted a rectangular rather than square orientation to emphasize the clothes line effect of the Santa suit garland I found on clearance at Michaels just before Christmas. I kept thinking I needed a frame, but I couldn’t find quite what I was after in my stash or in a store. I was in Dollar Tree when I realized that the perfect (and inexpensive) solution was one of their signs (last photo). I was lucky to find one just a bit longer and wider than their typical seasonal signs. I covered it with red and white Priscilla’s Pretty Plaids, and in no time I had a finish. Although I won’t use this piece for anything other than Santa Baby, I still used magnets and washers to attach the stitching so I can remove it before storing the board in the unheated/uncooled attic. I think I should pick up a few more of these signs the next time I’m at Dollar Tree. My Fat Quarter Shop Evergreen Mystery Quilt almost turned into the Evergreen Mistake Quilt. I realized after I completed the middle row that I had sewed the darker green section in the wrong spot. Which meant I had chopped off my cute pinwheels! I debated leaving it but I had just enough of the lighter green (a 30’s reproduction fabric from 2007) to rip out and fix my mistakes. How's your weekend going? Hopefully, you've been able to relax and get a few stitches in. I joined in on the @stitchin_sandi zoom chat earlier today and started today's ornament. Such a great group of stitchers chatting about this and that. I definitely look forward to joining the call each time. A couple of people finished their current stitching project which is always exciting when you are there for their last cross in that project. Back to the ornament, as I was flipping through my @JustCrossStitch magazines this morning looking for inspiration, I came across this design "Pretty Poinsettias" by Nancy Wahler with Faithwurks Designs and realized I hadn't stitched any poinsettias this month. It's a different type of finish and I'm in an "anything different is good" phase right now so it's a bonus draw to stitch this one. I'm two-thirds of the way through the stitching and I'm sure I'll finish it today. The other day @crossed_threads posted a lovely design by @tangled.threads.and.things that she stitched. I loved the way Lorna stitched it. I found the chart, pulled floss and fabric from stash and stitched it up today. I quite like the way it turned out. It's a quick stitch and counts as a finished ornament for the #goaltostitch52ornaments challenge that @thetravelingvikingmama and @madebymichellemcgraw are smashing. I looked up my stats for July and out of the 21 new starts this month, I have completed 11 ornaments and fully finished 2 of those ornaments. Just over 50% completion rate is pretty good for this month's challenge. Only 9 starts left for this month. I'm getting a late start on today's ornament by Valerie Danish of Val's Stuff. "Snow" appeared in the 2016 issue of @JustCrossStitch Christmas Ornaments magazine. I simplified the colors and changed the teals/blues. I'm currently debating on using MC B5200 or 747 for the snow. This one won't be a finish tonight but I'll get a decent start on it. I received the fabric a couple of days ago. It's Pacific Metallic Blue Lugana 25 count. It's so pretty with the metallic running through the fabric. I hope I'll be able to see it sparkle on the tree. Ever since I saw this design (and the many that came after) I have wanted to stitch one of them. I missed the part about stitching one over one and upon finishing my length of thread I realized my goof. Mr. Fix-It came through before dinner last night and our plumbing issue was cleared. Cleaned up, ate dinner, and had the evening to stitch on this sweet little stocking from JBW Designs @judy.whitman from the 2012 issue of @JustCrossStitch Christmas Ornaments. Less than 3 hours of stitching time while watching tv (Star Trek Strange New Worlds - anyone else watching it?) and my first finish in several days! What's everyone's plans this weekend? We might get ambitious and go out for a bit or save it for tomorrow. Dinner has been marinating since yesterday and we'll grill it tonight. It's hot and dry here right now and people are grumpy (Seattlites are like anything outside of 68-72 is tooooo hot or toooo cold) so we'll stay in the cool as much as possible.
