This little nugget is going to be joining the family this weekend! After some time and research, I have found it’s not a good idea to introduce a single gerbil to an established bonded pair so Luna will remain separate from my other girls, but she seems to be missing Stella these days. I reached out to Luna’s breeder, @gerbilgenesis and through her meticulous record keeping, she was able to confirm birth dates and find me a solo girl about the same age so I don’t have to keep going through the cycle of one passing, finding a new match, and so on because of a major age difference. Responsibly bred gerbils are generally healthier than mass produced ones as is the case for big pet stores, and you know the gender has been correctly identified. Gerbils are one of the more difficult to determine rodents, especially as young as they usually are in stores, so I am confident no surprise litters will happen. Anyway, the breeder named her Marigold II, so she will simply be Marigold or maybe Mari for short from now on. ❤️ Her color is known as “dark-eyed honey” and she’s super cute! Big fan of “ee” variations in Gerbils ♥️ In 2009-2010 we stumbled upon an eef in our lines, and therefore had a cool mixture of eef colors pop up. But eventually the ef lines were bred out; even though it was fun and fascinating to see offsprings’ colors fade as they aged, it was not our goal (in terms of colors). If the -ef carriers passed it on, it was nice, but otherwise not mandatory for my lines. Over time the ef gene ‘died out’ or rather, faded out of existence (hehe) and it never resurfaced again after 2010. Once that 12-line-generation passed away due to old age in 2016-2019, I retired until 2022; when I was graciously blessed by starting a new line starting out with ee+uwd uwd (gg). Since 2003, I had wanted to work with uwd uwd/gg, but of course I put health, temperament, and tameness at top priority. It’s amazing how recessive genes can just… surprise you. Never know what you’re going to get until it just happens 😊 My current DEH are not eef, but their early stages took me back to 2010 when I had my first ever DEH (but they had eef). Little introduction of Viserion's Elsie and finnish father Hashtag's Easy Fight Rambling's first litter ❤️ 4 Blue pups, where 3 of them are Dark Patched and then 3 Dilute Agouti pups, one Dark Patched (?) 💙💛 The girl on the first picture and the male on the 2nd picture is the most unique pups that has ever been born here. I did not expect such lovely patches! The girl has a total of 4 patches, but the one by her eye is the biggest. The 3rd Blue pup as a very very small patch, so it's very hard to get on a photo. Long time no see 🤗 Hope everyone has been well, just as we are at Snickerdoodle Gerbils ☺️ Over the Summer we introduced a Colorpoint Nutmeg female from another breeder in Arizona 😍 Did careful selecting and chose Cloud as our next suitor to pass on to the next generation. He was from our last litter, a stunning Red Eyed Polar Fox (REPF) or also known as Apricot. He is carrying -cb / -chm, so there is a possibility our new couple may produce colorpoints. Both are ee, so it’s very exciting! (huge fan of “black eyed white” animals 🤍) They had a very successful split intro, and have been thriving happily for a little over two weeks now. The holidays are right around the corner, so there may be another gap before posting new content. Tail showcase, 4 youngsters and 3 adults. Tail thickens with age which comes naturally with the increased body mass, hormones and maturity. Standard describes the tail to be of at least body length, measured by carefully folding it back over the body, tail tip should then end between the ears. Tail should be as thick as possible with the tuft as bushy as possible. Some cozy moments with two of Dreamfyre and Ylli's pups. I noticed a couple of days ago that they seemed to really enjoy being in the hand for cuddles. Just thought it would be a "just for the moment" kind of thing, but they still seem to enjoy it. Especially the male will fall asleep if he gets some ear rubs 💞 definitely two of the calmest pups I have ever had in this age. It also seems like it's a thing in this line, as also Dreamfyres sister sometimes fall asleep in my hand. Eye showcase. Standard describes the eye not to big and of almond-shape which is often forgotten. Breeders tend to breed for the biggest, roundest (and cutest?) eyes either by choice or mistake. Placement of the eye is also important as it should not be too bulging or too heavy set (as in almost sunken in). Of my own they can be fairly similar but I have a couple that are bordering on too round/large or small/heavy set which I tend to select out when breeding. Regular shorthair vs rex showcase. Notice how light is reflected very differently on the curled hairs vs shorthair. The rex coat takes a very long time to develop fully, and will continue to curl more and more for upwards of 8 months up to a year of age and they can look very patchy as youngsters. Tsunamis Dorper (to the right, first photo) is still young and will develop more but looks promising and this is pretty much how youngsters should look. Molds do well in being paired with black-based colors as it guarantees the offspring will be self-colored (as in full colored feet and tail) which helps preserve the points on nose, ears, feet and tail. Additionally the line just needs to carry a good red pigment color inherited along the way. Arcturus bring in some new blood with Finnish import father which will improve the genetic diversity even further. Goblins Ture Sventon, Black has been paired with Tsunamis Wicked, Agouti. Not a big female by any means but great color and body type overall. She also has quite a bit of wild lines on her fathers side which helps with health and such type related things like eye shape and good black fur pigment.
