A fun local walk around sub 6,000 yard @wentworthccnh. Although today was quite calm (72 degrees & sunny);one can’t help but imagine those cold and blustery New England days with a stiff wind off of Portsmouth Harbor. Love the play combining forced carry golf along with stunning seaside views…particularly holes 4, 14, 15 and more than likely the best tee shot in NH off of (par 5) 16 tee. With a mix of architecture and design from Donald Ross (1921), Geoffrey Cornish (1964), George Wright (1897), Brian Silva, Alex Findlay (1897) and Bill Robinson (1964) there is much to dissect even on the calmest days! #madeforthewind
Bunker Redo at Candlewood Country Club by Casey O’Callaghan !!!! I am so grateful to Casey , Rick Barnes and the members for this bunker redo on my Forever home course . Both sets of my Grandparents were charter members at Candlewood. My sister and I grew up on the 8th hole, she played on a golf scholarship at USC and went on to a great career on the European women’s tour , Asian Tour and played on the Lpga Tour. My Mom won the club championship at Candlewood 13 years in a row. My dad worked in the pro shop at Candlewood , he gave lessons and won the assistant pro championship two years in a row which hadn’t been done again until Loren Roberts did it at Friendly Hills in the early 80’s. My Dad was the second president at Friendly Hills and was instrumental on the members buying the Club from Lincoln savings. Casey’s idea for applying the classic designs of CB Macdonald, Seth, Rayner, and William Langford to the classic Candlewood Course is genius. The designs of these great architects are still relevant today and considered the best courses in the world. Such as Chicago Golf Club, The National Golf Club , Shore Acres and many more . Casey’s idea to go with this style at Candlewood is an absolute Bullseye 🎯⛳️. This is what I love most about Casey’s design, he treats each course on an individual basis ( no cookie cutter design) . This strategy is very reminiscent of the great Donald Ross. I can’t wait to follow the progress. Tidbit stumbled upon...Gibson Island Club has hired Lester George to convert current No. 6 to Redan and is considering other improvements. Not "restoration" as not originally a Redan. Original third hole (removed) was Reverse Redan. Even if this installation is a "non-native" template hole, makes one wonder about potential for GIC, one of MacRaynor's great "lost" courses.
Sod was laid today on @glenfloracc 2nd. First image is the before construction. While we will wait until spring to put the sand in place and do the adjusted mow line to the green, I am excited to share this (almost) finished product. This morning's coffee shot got me thinking about Kirtland Country Club, a C.H. Alison in northern Ohio. The Cleveland area is full of under-appreciated Golden Age gems, and Kirtland might be the least sung of all of them.

WOW!!!! Played Santa Ana Country club for the first time today since the redo. It was a great day with my son Chase (Who qualified for the Tour Cup there next week) and our good friends Ed , Liz and their daughter Tess. The redo was amazing, it looked C.B. McDonald , Seth Raynor and Dr. Alistair Mackenzie designed it. It reminds of the original Lido golf club design.
