2/2 Post We have two very special non-profit organizations that have been with the Grand Valley River Fest from the very start. Meet our second of the beneficiaries of the Grand Valley River Fest. Greetings, GVRF! We’re RiversEdge West, a non-profit based in Grand Junction. We focus on riverside forest and floodplain health in the American West to address impacts from invasive plants such as Russian olive and tamarisk, challenges associated with climate change and habitat fragmentation, and stressors that may result in diminished biodiversity and ecosystem services. Most of our work is focused on rivers in western Colorado and eastern Utah, including the Colorado River, Dolores River and the White River. We also collaborate with partners regionally and across the West, bringing resource managers and communities together to address common riparian (riverside) restoration challenges. Invasive plants degrade our rivers and collectively reduce the ecological, economic, and recreational values that rivers provide. While invasive plants may never be completely eradicated from riparian areas, RiversEdge West works to keep them at a manageable level so native plants, wildlife, and communities can thrive.
