I started my real estate journey over ten years ago when I began working in property management. Eventually I decided to get my real estate sales license and worked with a few different brokerages, each run by people who taught me a lot of important business lessons, people like Bob Allen, Christy Jenkins, Blake Underwood, Jon Head. But their guidance wasn’t just about business, they each taught me about life as much as anything. At each brokerage I did some really good things and I made my fair share of mistakes. Looking back, I didn’t recognize the wisdom each of them bestowed upon me until I had already moved on to the next challenge. Through those experiences, I discovered that I didn’t know as much as I thought I did and If I was going to survive in the industry, I needed to recognize and accept that I had much more to learn. The point is we must always continue to learn, continue to grow and not be afraid to take risks. Eleven months ago Carolyn came to speak with me about listing her house. I was still recovering from the first and awaiting the second of a two part stomach surgery and it was a welcome distraction. I had spent a couple months unable to do much marketing and not much work and it gave me motivation at a very tough time. It turned out that Carolyn's grandmother had recently passed away from cancer so she became the administrator of the estate and wanted to list her grandmother's property in Sandy Springs. First she had to navigate the waters of estate and trust formation which turned out to be a much longer and more arduous process than expected. As those of you who are also friends of her know, prior to us listing the house, Carolyn herself received a cancer diagnosis. We met for lunch and she told me everything and we made a plan. Obviously she was concerned, but the look in her eyes was one of strength, optimism, bravery, the same look I always see when we meet. We listed it for sale and the showings came flooding in! Lots of action right away and it appeared certain the property would sell quickly. And then we found out that important information provided to us was incorrect and the investors that were so excited initially, went away. And though the showings continued, no more offers came in. After months on the market and plenty of feedback, we were about to pull it and pause for a moment. Out of the blue, an offer came in. Quick close, fair price, exactly what she needed. At the closing this week I could sense the huge weight lifted off her shoulders. Carolyn, I'm truly grateful that you trusted me to help you and I am blown away by your perseverance and determination. You are going to flourish and continue to be an inspiration for others. Drew, you have been and continue to be a staunch support system and great partner.
