The MBM, which Statistics Canada cites as the official measure of poverty in a given city, was $46,975 in 2017, meaning that the cost of living has jumped 17.6 per cent in those five years. While that may seem like a lot, Toronto’s benchmark home price has risen by 42.8 per cent since 2019. Bank sentral Amerika Serikat (AS), The Federal Reserve (The Fed), memutuskan untuk kembali menahan suku bunga acuan di level 5,25-5,50% untuk keenam kalinya secara beruntun pada Rabu waktu AS atau Kamis dini hari waktu Indonesia (2/5/2024). The Fed juga menegaskan bahwa tidak akan ada kenaikan suku bunga pada tahun ini. Meskipun demikian, mereka mengatakan bahwa belum ada kemajuan berarti dalam penurunan inflasi, sehingga akan menunggu lebih banyak data pendukung sebelum memutuskan untuk memangkas suku bunga acuan. Sejak Maret 2022 hingga Juli 2023, The Fed telah mengerek suku bunga sebesar 525 bps, dan kemudian menahannya di level 5,25-5,50% pada bulan-bulan sebelumnya. US Interest Rate 5.5% - MI020524 Yesterday evening saw the FED announce its interest rate decision. As expected they kept the US base rate at 5.5%. The press conference afterwards did little to sway the markets, so no fireworks. For the moment it's the Southern hemisphere where all the action is taking place. The Japanese Yen is going through a sustained period of volatility, and the Pound has been softening against the Australian Dollar and the New Zealand Dollar. With a relatively light day for scheduled news things may not change too much today. The Canadian Dollar will be under the spotlight later as the Governor of the Bank of Canada, Tiff Macklem, gives a speech. There's also a speech by a member of the ECB, Philip Lane, and these speeches have been pushing the markets recently. In business news it's a bit gloomy for the UK. The OECD is predicting the UK will have the most sluggish growth in the G7 next year due to it's aggressive interest rate hikes.
