Following up yesterday’s Maximus post with another one. I get messages daily asking for A-B testing of the Maximus MSD. I have some data I’ve shared along the way but it’s typically either dyno or draggy. Fortunately I have a customer who loves to wrench and loves to beat on the car both street & strip💪🏼 Previously this car had a Trinity with a 103 as well as a 112mm, then I ported a Hi Ram lower and he paired it with a Shearer Fab lid modified for a 112mm. This setup did very well for him but he is always wanting more and decided to try the Maximus112-SR MSD. Previous best were as follows: -IronMask ported Hi Ram lower w/ Shearer Fab Lid 112 Draggy: 5.52 sec 60-130 1/4 mile: 9.7 @ 144mph Current results: -IronMask Maximus112-SR Draggy: 5.18 sec 60-130 1/4 mile: 9.5 @ 146 mph Dyno results are: Red Line: Maximus112-SR Green Line: Hi Ram w/modded Shearer Lid 112mm Blue Line: BTR Trinity w/112mm The Maximus112 is HARD to beat. Especially for a manifold that fits under the stock hood. We have multiple NA LS7 cars in the high 4s to low 5s with the Maximus112. I would like to state, this is NOT a knock against the Hi Ram or Trinity. They absolutely have their purpose and fit the bill for a lot of setups. I would also like to state that the Maximus requires grinding of the water pump for clearance, as well as needing aftermarket fuel rails. I personally like the MSD rails. These are also a 6+ week wait currently. As I mentioned yesterday a minimum of 40 hours goes into each one and it is not a modification I can rush or cut corners. If you are patient with me and the process I guarantee you it’ll be worth it if you are looking for the best and most modified MSD on the planet💪🏼 As always thanks to all of you for the business and support, as well as all the hard work wrenching and driving the hell out of these setups! Just finished up porting a set of Archangel BR7’s sent in by my good friend @k_w_d_3 and these things sure are pretty! I would like to say right off the bat; in an attempt to not ruffle any feathers, that these heads were already really nice. They were sent to me simply because @k_w_d_3 is notorious for trying to squeeze everything he can out of his setups! Which is great! Means there is a need for the little fellas like us🤣 I was able to increase flow (cfm) by 8% as well as increasing velocity (fps) by 11%. Like I said, these heads were nice to begin with so it was good to add a little “icing on the cake” for the Dangler🍰 Once again I appreciate you sending more work my way and I look forward to many more projects to come! Set of our CNC’d stock casting LS7 heads went out to our good friends @flagmotorsports for a gnarly solid roller 447ci autocross setup they built! 💪🏼💪🏼 For this particular set of heads we did our standard rebuild of removing & replacing the valve guides with @cheprecision bronze guides as well as our competition valve job. After the CNC process we finished them up with some hand blending followed by milling, cleaning, and assembly. These heads came in with stainless steel intake valves. I recommended switching over to a titanium intake valve which they agreed to and voila 🤩 .. nice new titanium valves which will shed some valvetrain weight as well as some additional airflow due to the nice backcut they come with versus the non-backcut stainless valve previously used. I can’t wait to see the results once the guys @flagmotorsports get everything assembled and back in action! Our good friend @k_w_d_3 sent a set of RHS Elite Pro LS7 heads to work over for a big 502ci LS engine he is putting together. First order of business was to get these on the flow bench and gather CFM and velocity data. With these being large intake ports as is (307cc) , as well as going off the flow data, I formed a game plan. After making adjustments to the port and putting a nice finish throughout the entire port, I was able to get the heads where I wanted. Was able to pick up 10-18cfm through the .200”-.600” lifts, and 3-7cfm from .650”-.850” lifts. In addition to the CFM gains I was able to increase velocity, which will greatly help this big port💨 For the exhaust port, they were pretty damn good. Little tweaks and blending throughout the port I was able to gain 9-12cfm through the entire range (.200”-.850”) These heads were designed with the idea of them being used in 454-502ci applications. I typically see them used in 427ci setups and they always seem a little underwhelming. However.. I really think they will be able to show what they can do on this 502ci setup soon. What better day to talk about horsepower than Hump Day 🐪 Our customer @slo_z07 made some HUGE gains today with our LS7 top end to say the least. He messaged me a few months back to inquire about one of our SR MSD manifolds. Worked one up & sent it out to him. Got it dialed in and he enjoyed it for a stint then got the “horsepower itch” that a lot of us tend to get 🤣 We talked again and he decided to swap out his RPM heads & B3 camshaft for a set of our ported stock castings & Excalibur camshaft. Luckily @slo_z07 was able to get some baseline numbers prior to changing the parts so we could get a nice comparison. Now.. time for results! Finished out the week with yet another LS7 top end🙌 @kingcrabb89 reached out to me and said he was ready to make some more powah💪🏼. After going over goals & expectations, as well as what his current setup was and how he wanted to improve we had our heading. First up.. the MSD intake manifold. While it was doing well for him he wanted to go with our “Maximus112-SR” modification. Once the Maximus modification(s) were out of the way I went to work on the heads. In addition to the CNC porting we installed a set of @cheprecision valve guides and performed our competition valve job. He also wanted these bad boys to be 100% hand finished, so we put the extra little zest on them 👌. Finished up by milling to achieve his desired chamber volume, and assembled using a @briantooleyracing spring kit. To tie it all in I spec’d a nice beefy camshaft that will make the setup work very well with the intake and heads 💨 @kingcrabb89 thanks for the business brother! A set of out IronMask CNC Brodix heads doing what they do best on a really nice Z28! Our customer @mostly_sayne wasn’t happy with his previous setup (listed below) mostly in part to how soft it was down low. Made a few changes and netted some nice power with a powerband that gets the car moving much better! Previous Setup: -FED Low Pro Billet Intake Manifold w/NW 103 -Tick Polluter Stage 3 Camshaft -RHS 307cc Cylinder Heads -ARH 2” Headers -E85 Power: 583whp/460wtq New Setup: -Ported MSD w/NW 103 -Custom Camshaft -IronMask CNC Brodix BR7 Cyl Heads -ARH 2” Headers -E85 Power: 619whp/553wtq Nice bump in HP but a HUGE gain in the torque department! All with a nice safe 21* of timing. (Less than before) The manifold and camshaft changes were definitely factors in the gains & powerband, but without a doubt our BR7 heads better utilized the air with a smaller/more efficient port design than the RHS heads. These cars never show the numbers the C6Z06’s do (in part due to the 3.91 gearing) but I am definitely happy with them! Our customer @z06kang joined the 600+ club over the Thanksgiving weekend! The previous setup wasn’t making enough power to satisfy his thirst.. so we started by working up a fresh set of our CNC ported LS7 heads to replace his AHP ported heads. We then ported his MSD intake manifold. Along with the heads & intake he decided to replace his Synergy camshaft with a BTR3 V1 (older version) camshaft. Definitely some power left on the table if he ever decides to mill the heads down more and move to a better fuel. So I’m pleased with the numbers.
